Default Siege and rangers, do you always take them?

So question is, when you play Siege do you take rangers all the time? In 35pt and 50pts does it differ for you? I understand that rangers are a nice unit, but is it an auto include in your Siege lists?
Do you prefer to take a meele unit instead? Or a jack or can't make a list without them?

I would say bring them as if your using siege to kill infantry spam they boost his ground pounder attack. Sadly only cygnar unit i don't own and ill pick them up next. In my last game a whole unit of flameguard would have died if i would have had them. sigh.

    Short Answer: No.

Medium Answer: Everything in this game's overall effectiveness depends on the rest of the things in your force, so to always take them in every scenario seems like a strange idea.

Long Answer: I think they're a great unit and they're definitely helpful for Siege. They can save focus, make his Ground Pounder much more lovely than it already is, and they're actually a decent unit for their point cost. In this respect most armies could use some Rangers in them. But, there are times where they're unnecessary, and other times where a melee unit could be better. Overall I think you should take them in most Siege lists, but they're not an auto-include.

I would say yes, when I play against siege, really high defense is what I use to beat him, Cover is also the one thing siege does not ignore. Rangers help with all of this.

he can ignore cover if the center of the ground pounder shot is behind the cover as well i believe.

    I don't think so.

Certainly not an auto-include, but I feel that outside of Caine1, no one offers them more while getting just as much utility back as Siege. Making that single attack that each model gets under his feat more accurate so damage can be boosted is very helpful. I just wish they had Bushwhack, but really that would overpower them! Still love them though!

I always take them with Siege. For one, Siege happens to be an awesome shooty caster with horrible RAT (I know 6 is "average for an elite infantry model" but frankly its not high), and very often, much of Siege's army tends to have several other shooty elements which wouldn't at all mind the RAT boost.

Not to mention, depending on your playstyle, Rangers make a pretty good combat unit as well.

In my current hardcore list with siege I have them in the list. The ability to give other models in your army plus two rat is amazing when you are going for a caster kill.

Normally though it is a 50/50 chance. I don't like playing the same models multiple times in different lists....unless it is the B13

As was thinking about my list: Siege list.
Tought of getting A&H and Gorman in that list, that leaves me with 5pt. So i have 2 choices, i get something for 5pts in the list or i drop ranges and go max PK's or Forgeguard.

Like the +2rat of them, but don't now if i need them.

I like Rangers in general (and they seem to be underrated in certain places...) and have found them to work well with Stormwall.
I think until the PoM Colossal comes out, A&H is mostly unnecessary in that kind of list since you already have a decent amount of magical weapons.

I always take rangers with Siege. I don't believe they are required by any means, But they are a really solid unit and the +2 is really powerful with ground pounder. I like rangers in general, I kind of want to bring them in any list that doesn't have deadeye.

I play Siege without them and usually do fine. Usually. At my last tourney I got Terminus (on full focus camp) down to 5 boxes left, but missed my Defender and second Siege shots. So I've decided to get eEiryss and some Rangers. That'll fix 'em!

If I am playing friendly no...

If I want to play to the best abilities of a caster.. Siege always brings one unit of rangers. Caine2 always has a unit. Sloan loves some rangers but her feat helps some on that front. Caine1 loves some rangers as well.

In reality rangers are a very self suffecient unit. Unless the square off against Stealth, Incorporeal or heavy troops they hold their own quite well. AD gets them up field quickly. Prowl just adds to their ability to survive the approach. They have a decent rat, buff each other, base DEF 14 and have a decent ranged gun. All that just makes them a great unit in my book.

Rangers are one of the best infantry options in Cygnar. They are one of the handful of units that can be said to work just fine, regardless of warcaster or support chain.

Speed 7, range 10, POW 11 guns with pathfinder at 6 models for 5 points is amazing.

You will not be disappointed with their performance. You will want to pick up some brass rod to replace their gun barrels.

I never took them with him.

Since he dominates the shooting phase I build his lists to poke at range, using his amazing support for ranged as a way to strengthen that aspect, then build a melee centric force that can remove.heavy armor on feat turn.

Siege doesn't really need rangers as they only help with something he already dominates.

Shooty Siege, yes (which I find boring), melee Siege, no.

Ugh, yes. Mine snapped to sawed-off shotguns long ago.
