Default I need an artillery piece....

Title kind of says it all. I am looking for an artillery piece. Requirements are that it is cheap and fits in with the Iron Kingdoms. The kicker? I need a BUNCH of them. Doesn't need to be Privateer, as I looked at the WG Mortar (just the mortar) and it was $7. I don't complain about prices, ever. Well...until I need like 72 to make objectives for a tournament!

Any ideas out there in wargame modeler land?

Make them yourself from hardware store bits, etc?

If you need 72 at a reasonable price, then you are talking <$1 a piece, and that's going to rule out any cast pewter. That leaves 3 options

    Cast it yourself
    Make it yourself
    Buy in bulk and cheap.

Casting for yourself will need a mold making material, a resin/plaster/putty. It will be time consuming, but will yield the best results. Some instamold, a bulk order of greenstuff, a cannon of choice and several weekends and you'd get there.

I'm guessing that to buy in bulk you'd need to scour dollar stores and eBay for cannon sets for toy green army men. You might luck it in.

To scratch build 72 you really want something that is practically there already.

    Or

You can get small ones at craft stores in bulk.

And some short stretches of Tubing or even thick paper that fit exactly over the split end to round out the barrel is where I'd start.

I think hand sawing 3 bits of copper pipe x 72, or dremel lathing 72 cannons would kill any normal human, but you could do one and then cast it (there was an insider article on how to do so)

That's all I've got for now

    Cheers

Tagging onto Autumn Stone's idea, here is a site that has a wide range of plasticard tubing that you could use: HERE. I tried finding some suitable casting sites, but nothing conclusive.

These are $1.23, still not cheap for 72 of them.

If you look around at Lowes you can probably find some PVC pieces to build artillery from with a little work.

if you have a Michael's hoby store in your area I found plastic black power cannons for $2.00 each that are the right scale for WM for a pirate ship I am building.

What is your budget for 72 cannons? Cheap is a relative term when you want that many of a single item. If you can afford it and it is possible I would say make several then cast what you need.
Most people say that what some people say is pretty stupid.

Timing is of course everything. With interactive objectives coming into SR I would like to use some of them at Clash for a Cure. I know that I could make 50mm markers and write on them...but thats just not my style. I like nice terrain and for things to look a little more "finished" than a little chit.

I like the ideas, keep them coming! Clash isn't until Oct but I have to get them all done. If I can find one that needs little modification I can try to contact them to see if wecan work out a deal. If I have to build them...so be it. That can be done as well.

Have you contacted PP about the Mortars then? They generally seem supportive of these charity type events ... I assume the $7 is using part store prices, order 72 lots would surely be deal worthy, order 72 lots for charity would surely be super-deal worthy?

Privateer is graciously providing some prize support to Clash already...somehow asking them for $500 in "bits", well as much as I would like to use Privateer bits, I think that would be really pushing the line. That's why I was asking you guys. I am trying to build them to use as the interactive "Artillery Emplacements". I may just have to scrap the idea of using that scenario, but I wanted to give it a try first.

Don't they have an article in the hobby section about gun emplacements. Maybe you could use that.

I would try to build/sculpt something you can just make a pour mold for. Honestly not convinced that'll be cheaper than a buck a piece though.

I agree with others here, plaastic rod and tubing may be your best bet if you want artillery on a budget. It also took me a minute to picture it, but Autumn Stone's idea is a pretty clever idea.
