Who's going to Gencon?

I just wanted to post this because i am really excited about it!

Living in Australia, i've never gone to any huge conventions or big multi-day con/tournies (there just isn't anyhting like 128 player tournies).

So it really is a big deal for me to have the funds and the situation to be able to go to Gen con this year and i want to find out who else is going so that i can say hi and put faces to names .

The only down side is that three of the four masters qualifiers had already sold out - so thats a bit of a downer, other than that though I am fully excited and hope to see a bunch of you there!!

I will be there but there is a good chance I may not bring my models. I will be demoing for another company (I'll be hanging out doing Relic Knights demos) but may try and get in some Iron Arena if I don't get too tired and we can jam the bags in the car!

If it's your only time going to Gencon, make sure to spend time at areas other then the PP area. Not that I don't love PP (because I do) but there is SO MUCH going on at the convention that you will need some time to take it all in

I'm playing ret, if I get lucky enough to qualify for masters early maybe I'll break out my legion or maybe in Iron Arena games.

The Iron Arena is a lot of fun, I think I may want to sleep more than 6 hours in 4 days this year though so we'll see how much IA I do.

Whats the Iron Arena?

Iron Arena is an open play format that encourages you to play different opponents from different areas with different lists. For example, at Templecon, you got 1 point for a new opponent, one point from an opponent from a new state/country, one point for playing a game, X points for new game size (this escalated depending on size), extra points for a four player team match, so on and so forth. Those points could then be spent on swag like signed prints, dice, books, models, random containers that had anything from tokens to jacks with signed cards.

All in all it is an open event that encourages people to have a good time and play each other It's a fantastic idea. I saw a lot of people at Templecon this year not play any tournies and just play Iron Arena.

I am heading to GenCon with my Ret. No tournament, but I am looking forward to playing in that Wall and City scenario.

I can't agree with this enough. The first year I went I was still big into CCGs, and spent most of my time playing in the various World Championships/qualifiers for the ones I played. Didn't get a chance to do much else and I felt like I missed out on a lot of the cool stuff to see at Gen Con. The second year I took a much more laid back approach and only played a few events, and got a lot more free play. It was a lot more fun for me that way. I highly recommend not overdoing it on the events, and taking time to see everything there is to see, there's always new cool stuff to buy that you may not know you need til you see it.

I will be at Gencon. I live in Indy so its easy for me to go. I have been going for the past four years but I've never played Warmachine there. I hope to play at least one game in the Iron Arena but I am still pretty new to the game and shy about playing strangers because I'm still trying to get all of the rules interactions memorized in my head. I hope to see some of you there.

Depressingly, I didn't think I'd be able to make it anymore. I'm moving, and tons of stuff is up in the air.

Now, though, there's a minor plan to maybe show up for one short day. So I'd like to meet anyone who's interested, 'cause it would be nice.

Also, though, good odds that I won't have Ret. My flgs guys asked me to leave it so they can goof around with it, and I like traveling light so I agreed. I might have Mercs, or I might be able to sneak a Garryth list or something, somehow.

I might very well give my first born for Hyperion and a copy of the IK RPG book. Sadly I can't make it to GenCon either... Though crossing my fingers that they'll have one or the other at PAX, which is only 20 minutes from me.
