No list but the European Team Challenge and the Open European Team Challenge are both really big events I know lots of people from around here show up to. Same goes for the coin of evil in Germany even though that is mainly a German tournament. Think the French masters attracts some players as well

Check http://www.tabletopturniere.de/eu/t3_overview.php?gid=7 for an overview. A lot of tournaments in Europe (at least in Austria/Germany/France) are advertised on this site.

Apologies in advance for hijacking, but are their any big events in southern Scandinavia?

I'm in Copenhagen and I *think* I heard about a regular event being held in Aarhus a while back... I think the main danish WM forum is battle-group.dk, you could maybe check there.

At the ETC there were talks about organizing Scandinavian Masters somewhere in southern Sweden or near Copenhagen. No idea about the time schedule though, but we'll see.

Depends on what you define as big, i.e. more than a one day event? In the UK there are 4 major events -

    UK Masters
    SmogCon
    Welsh Open
    European Team Championships

There are plans in the works for a Scottish Open as well next year, which we hope to start off with something similar to the Welsh Open/SmogCon.

Where would this Scottish Open be held perchance? I ask because I used to play in Glasgow and have friends who play there.

There's also the more or less annual Nordic Open Tournament in Turku, Finland.

the Netherlands have some as well; the Benelux Masters is a 2-day event taking place annually in october, and there's a new event in the pipeline (2-day, meant to be annual) in January.

Maybe this thread would benefit from each of the mentioned events being paired up with how many participants the tournament had last time it was held, if anyone is in the know about that.

Not a guy with official numbers but from memory:

    UK masters - 115-120
    Welsh open - 60-64
Smogcon - somewhere between those two
    ETC - Over 200

More thread hijacking - where does one find out about the UK championships? I'm getting back into the game this year and need to start planning ahead for if I can get to these.

The Uk Masters tends to get advertised on here early in the year. It's been held at the UK Games Expo in May and is around 120 players. What sort of thing do you want to know about the Masters?

Plus whereabouts in Leeds do you play as I'm the local pressganger?

You are? Have you been for a long time I've not played much at all in the last two years. I played at Travelling man when it was just kicking off their - and used to play at Night Owls - I'm currently trying to find out where it's played currently. (Travelling man told me they rent a room once a month for it now?)

Edit: as for the masters what I really want to know is things like - is it open to all comers or do you have to qualify some other way first?

I've been about 5 or so years so if you played at Travelling Man then you played in my events.

If you follow the Leeds link in my sig you can see the Gaming in Leeds thread. 35 point events every second Tuesday of the month at the TM gaming space and then fairly regular weekend events depending on the month.

The Masters is open to everyone who can get a ticket. It's a very inclusive event and there are no qualifiers for it.

Wow, these are big events. The biggest tournament I've been in had 32 players.
