    Default Red Hook

    heya all!

    I'd like to share with my version of IK pirate captain - the name is Red Hook because:
    a. he likes red clothes
    b. he has a hook
    I only wish I had no spare parrot or rengrave's bird to put on Hook's shoulder

    PS. could someone please tell me how can I change links in the painting thread locator?
    I mean have no idea how can I make it look like: "Red Hook" instead of "http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?p=189174#pblablabla..."

    Very cool.

    As to you question simple type "Red Hook" then highlight the words (or picture!), look at the task bar for the "Earth with a chain link" (click on it), this brings up a little window and lastly enter the link in the bottom url slot. Job Done

    Cheers

    It was far too easy to figure it out by myself. Apparently I should turn on the brain more often - thanks!

    You never cease to amaze me Demi. How did you get that beautiful red? Where did you get that hook and sword? The whole thing is just fantastic.

    Very nice work indeed - was this a competition piece, or just for the sheer joy of it?

    thanks a lot guys!
    taking pics of the thing was pretty hard because my camera didn't get focus properly - that's why photo is pretty small

    as for red - it wasn't actually anything complicated, just required some patience:
    base coar was gory red (iirc that's the proper name, it's the dark red vgc color) with a drop of charred brown and on such basecoat I was painting thin layers of pure gory red then gory red + blood red blood red blood red + flesh (elf flesh?) elf flesh for the final fighlights;
    then the paint was 100% dry I started glazing: red wash, red wash + flesh wash and a bit of purple wash in the deepest shadows;
    that's basically the secret

    as for the parts I cannot say really - I was looking for some parts for conversion in my bitz-box and found some painted limbs on the bottom so just pinned them to the model and repainted

    well preparing the thing was lots of fun but who knows - it might turn out competition piece as well

    by the way - I used all remaining water effect (I managed to collect about 20ml after I made hole in the can) but added a half-drop too much paint so it's murky but not as transparent as I hoped for:
    there's a treasure chest on the bottom under Hook's sword arm but on pic it looks only like another shadow
    buuut I was taking pics during making this project so if I gather them together and add some text - there might appear article about it one day
