Bah, lost with Durgen against Asphyxious2. He had a sliver of LoS through my OAC meat shield, and Durgen got Excarnated (after having survived charges from five Bane Knights)

The scenario was Process of Elimination from SR11 (two long zones, you can write a CP once in each).
My opponent managed to kill Ragman, Aiyanna and eAlexia, so my only model that could have hurt eDenny with magic(al) attacks was Damiano.
At that point he had 1 CP while I had none (due to eDenny's feat), and with the combination of Incorp, Pursuit, Dark Banishment and focus camp he simply ensured it that I cannot write a point in the other zone.
I could have tried to just stay in my zone, kill the single ghost pirate and go for a pathetic draw after killing his whole army but I didn't want to play the anti-game. Probably next time against cryx I'll do...

    Pat,

Just a FYI, she can only go incorp every other turn. Don't know if that'd have impacted your game or not depending on time. I've noticed that in tourneys with Mercs, my best bet is to try to score via scenario while keeping my caster safe. I learned this after losing in a bigger tourney earlier this year. I've won three tourneys straight since learning that and haven't lost a game since with my mercs. Even in my practice games (the few that I get) I've been on a good streak but I even play SR rules for practice so that makes a big difference.

    Thanks for the advice.
Normally I also play SR during friendlies.
This was my first losing streak since the very beginnings, and right before that I had quite a long win streak with Damiano (dunno, like 10 matches against various opponents).
Probably it was my temper against eDenny (could have gone for the ugly draw and win by kill points), but I really don't know what could have been done against 7 Slayers with Mortenebra...

    Pat,

When in doubt, whip Durgen out. Inhosptiable Ground and a bunch of double shots from him will severely limit that lists capabilities.

did 5th on a larger tournament (32 players) this weekend ... went 4:1, lost with gorten against terminus, beat Menoth twice (Kreos1 popndrop with Gorten, Sevvy1 with Ashlynn doublemulegunmages), trolls (eMadrak with Gorten) and Khador (eVlad with Damiano) ... I was also best Merc (not surprisingly with 3 mercs on the tournament in total ...) and won a Wrath-coin (special treat at this very tournament for best faction players)

Some lousy Mercs player took first at a Blood, Sweat and Tiers tourney (T4 Shae).

(We still love you, gomu ningen.)
Huh. Six months away from Cygnar and I've forgotten how to win... until Kara Sloan goes all 'bullet to the head' several games in a row. It's good to be back.

Win with Durgen against Lylyth1. Extraordinarily bad matchup for my opponent! He had tons of squishy infantry that died in droves to Blasters, and the end result was Lylyth desperately trying for the assassination against Durgen, failing and then getting Flak Fielded by a Basher under Durgens feat.

    - Loss with Damiano against pSeverius @ 50pts. A horrible matchup and stellar rolls for Ashes to Ashes (killing 6-7 models each turn). Didn't really have an army in turn 2, even less in turn 3. Also pretty bad dice rolls on my side, but pSevvy can live without your bad rolls anyways.
    - Win with Damiano against Conny T4. Kayazy Eliminators get MVP (and the Steelhead block of course as always). Some pretty bad rolls on my opponent's side, but it didn't affect the Eliminators who pulled the ckill.
    - Win with the same army again vs. a jack heavy pMags. Kayazy Eliminators, Halberdiers and Snapjaw getting MVP awards.
    - Draw with pMagnus T4 against eHaley @ 35 pts. Failed a charge on her with a Renegade by a 1/4" due to a wreck marker in the way. Opponent had to go and we were 1-1 on CPs so it was a draw. First game with Most Wanted. Pretty nice fluffy little army, but nothing too overpowered.
    - Win with Durgen against eHaley @ 35 pts. Very-very close game. MVP goes to the Eliminators again (damn, they're good!) the Rockram (wrecking the Centurion in one go) and Durgen himself (for wiping out the ATGMs). eEiryss was pretty important too, but she wasn't a game changer.

Loss with Durgen to Feora. Holy hell my dice were bad. Kept hitting then rolling exactly what I need to just not kill something. And then feat turn, Avalancher, tuned up, moves and get LOS on enemy warcaster. This is going to hurt. Until my attack dice come up with a hole bunch of feated, boosted 1s, and the scatter hits nobody worthwhile. Tore through his back field and almost killed her but the dice gods were not with me.

Win with my 'Durgen classics' against MacBain T1 then a win with the same army against eMags Bad Seeds T4 (the latter was much tighter due to the aggro swiftness of the Bad Seeds). Tyler Durgen is awesome. And after trying pAlexia with him I'm glad to return to the good old Halberdiers instead. Same feeling with the Driller after the Rockram. The latter is shiny and all, but I felt that in 90% of the cases it could have just been a Driller: a wrecked heavy is just a wrecked heavy.

Played at a local con yesterday. I wasn't able to actually make the con proper, but got in a few games in the Iron Arena.

Durgen win versus Hexeris2. Double tap from Durgen, followed up with a 3 damage shot from Eiryss1, a couple shots from Rorsch, and a charging primed unit of Kayazy Eliminators.

Gorten win versus Sevy2. A failed feat turn but, with black oil on a jack and his caster all most of his stuff stuck in hindering terrain gave me a second shot (love that feat for positioning) at taking out the caster which I did with a both barrels, eruption, and powerful shot spray.

Bad Seeds win verus Caine1 and Shae. Renegades with Rangers is really strong. Defenders following up on bad dice rolls are even better. I loved this list versus guys like Caine so I can actually get to focus him in the middle or take a potential ambush and it lets me actually get to use my infantry some. Dual Manglers are incredible with the right placement. That's like a 12 inch you shall not pass zone. I never even had to pop feat!

Played a pick up game on Saturday. Fiona defeats Kreoss2 with Long Gunner CRA to the face (several times).

Took mercs to the monthly tournament at my FLGS. Went 3-0 with MacBain's theme list and won 1st (and technically won 'destroyer', but they gave that to the #2 as I had already won something). It was a 'fun' escalation tourney with extra points for playing a theme list. Beat Butcher2 at 25 points by scenario, Kaya2 at 35 points by assassination (only because he forced the issue by trying to kill MacBain before I won by scenario) and Vyros at 50 points by assassination(the only model holding the zone was Vyros...I had to kill him).

Damiano keeps being at the top, Shae took over the dwarves (where Durgen got closer to Gorten) being 3rd at the moment.
Fiona gets better & better. Poor Blaize cannot move away from the last place, but even sadder is Ashlynn who's the 2nd most popular caster after Gorten based on the total number of matches, but still not too successful according to these statistics.

I came in second at a 25 point fully painted Steamroller 2012 Tournament; won 3 out of 4 games with E Magnus. Also won a League game with E Magnus His feat+Renegades+ a bonded Freebooter= getting the alpha strike on knocked down heavies and absolutely trashing them, especially if the 'Booter can get into their back-arc! A 6 point Freebooter took out a 100% fine Mulg in one go: I am really enjoying how he plays.

Another for Gorten, 15 points with driller, gun bunnies, Gudrun, OAC against Khador with Butcher, Kodiak, winterguard, manhunter, marksman, widow makers. Didn't do to well at first but feat pushed him around, opened up the caster. OACs hurt him, Gorten finished him, first hit.

Three more for Damiano. Tried him out this weekend at 35 in Highborn. He and his warjack were the only things that didn't have AD. That was nice for scenario purposes. Of the three games, the first one I was up on CPs and forced the opponent to make a big commitment which ended with a caster kill. The second game I won on CPs and the third game I was able to out attrition his Skorne. Woot!

Couple of losses with Durgen. Dropped a feat shot on eCaine's head with boxcars, came up one short on damage and couldn't get my other three AOEs to deviate on him (even with Dougal rerolls). Next turn, eCaine to the face. Other game, eHaley + Thunderhead at 15. Ouch.

In honor of General Ossrum, I played a 50 point Durgen list vs. Epic Irusk with 3 MoW units and mechanics as well as Behemoth. I played 4star, with Sea Dogs and solo crew, Kayazy Assassins and UB, and Alexia and Risen. If course, I didn't go Rhul-less, bringing Herne and Jonne, Thor with a Basher, and a Gunner and Rockram for Madhammer. On feat turn, I landed 6 aoe's on Irusk to finish him off.

Played and won the first qualifier event for the Carolina Inviational. Damiano was run with a full Pirate contingent, Durgen got run in 4 Star. Won two games off scenario, one off a hail mary assasination, and one off of....was up 2 CPs to 0, forcing the opposing caster to come forward for a double tap from Durgen. Very fun event and a lot of good competitive games.

Primed pirates with Durgen continue their winning ways, this time against Maelok. Still figuring out the Jacks, but the units and solos are solid.

Went to a local tournament this weekend taking Highborn Durgen and Highborn Gorten. Gorten won on objectives against eButchy. Durgen then showed the meaning of blast damage and primed nyss to Ossyan, putting him into the dirt. Last round saw a Landslid Xerxis have a little one to one with a SoG'd, Tune'd Up driller, needless to say he saw the point.

So, this was one of the few times I was able to run more than 2 casters because I wasn't in a local tourney this weekend. Blaize was very fun and I found her feat to be awesome for Guantlet. Shae remains the main man for speedy jack lists. MacBain....well I have to say that I have found a new fondness for him. I played his tier twice and it's something to behold when a Jackhammering Nomad takes out a Beast 09 in a turn.

So tried out MacBain's tier 4 list this weekend. I had a lot of fun playing it. Won three and lost 1 barely. I had three chances to win but what can I say, you can't beat dice, especially when all you need is a 4. LOL. I like his tier a lot and I have a huge respect for Jackhammer now. Running a Nomad into contact with an objective in the Destruction Scenario and then jackhammering it to death before walking away with the caster is just awesomely cool. Plus a Basher with Fail Safe is just so good.

Slogged it out against Maelok, but eventually got the attrition advantage. Another was a bad match up for my opponent, with MacBain and no means to Pathfinder struggling with Inhospitable Ground and getting shot quite a bit. MacBain was eventually done in by Primed Eliminators.

Gorten had some fun running through Skorne vs Void Seer Mordikaar, with the high shields doing 2x full CRA into a gladiator dropping it from full to almost dead. After feating and pulling in his last gladiator (along with Mordikaar) and applying Driller to face, my opponent called it. 1 for Gorten
Next, Gorten fought pButcher. After getting half my unit of forgeguard killed by Holt and Marksman in the first turn, i thought i was gonna be a lot of trouble. But a risky rush forward and feat from Gorten pulled this entire army 8" closer to me. With a little luck and tuned up blaster, i was able to clear (JUST barely) the assassins, elf girl and Holt blocking line of sight from my driller to butcher. Again, applied Driller to face to win the game!

Gorten's feat = best in game!

Got a few games in with MacBain and Amador over the last few weeks. Haven't been able to play much but always rocking the Mercs when I do.

MacBain wins over Cygnar, Circle, Legion, and Khador.

Amador wins over PoM and Legion.

I've been pretty surprised over how well MacBain is letting me do in Scenario play. The combination of a Heavy's movment, Jackhammer, Energizer, and more jackhammer is pretty freaking nuts for clearing zones or taking out objectives. I even found a great use for Ragman here as he puts the Nomad or Rociante's damage to a pretty crazy good level.

I've been running Damiano versus those lists with high damage output but low volume of attacks with several big hitters and holy crap does he do a good job there. I've even gotten good use out of Rutger in this list. Yep, that's right RUTGER SHAW!

So I saved Durgen till the end to get some practice in at this SR with MacBain. First three rounds, I won on CP. Played against PoM in the finals and walked away from the flag twice in the (not sure which scenario it is, radial with giant control in the middle and four flags a caster must be in b2b with). Anyway, I had control of the zone and should have won turn three but Durgen decided he forgot the rules and walked up both turns to lose me some CPs. Doh! Then I just went complete brain fart and tried a feated carpet bomb run on Harby instead of just killing his jacks and attritioning him to death. I could've (on averages) taken both his heavies out that turn leaving him with only two of the light with Sky Hammers left, Harby and like one choir left. Many chances to win, many blown pig headed moves. Durgen is the man, I let him down and didn't secure another SR event victory for Mercs. Next time, at least I learned my lesson.

Win with Damiano against eDenny on a friendly.
    Then Deconstructing Vienna II.
Lost with Damiano (Highborn) against eGaspy and pSorsha due to death clock... (55 mins, 47 models).
Won with Gorten (Searforge) against Harkevich and eKreoss. He never lets me down... I lost with him only once on a tournament, when I was poundering Terminus in the ground with his hammer and he was like Tough, Tough, Tough...

Edit: Damiano (HbC: Gallant, Harlan, Trollpit, FG, SH trinity + support) win against Xerxis, then a loss against eSorsha (freakin WGI Deathstar and dice rolls). Gorten Searforge win against eMagnus Bad Seeds, Gorten Four Star win against Barnabas then against Carver.

5 games in. Couldn't win any by scenario but took CPs each game with a caster kill on top to seal the games. No dumb mistakes like last event last week. MacBain is very fun to play and Durgen just has all the tools.

Got in 4 games at the finale of the NC Turf Wars league to win it with Mercs. This was a league designed around getting several cities involved in cross promotional gaming in most of central NC. I believe it covered 7 different gaming sites. This leagues has been going on for quite a while and it allowed some good expose to different play styles and I found some new places to play as I don't have a local gaming store.

    Last four games were:

35 tier with Shae (a Pirates life)
    50 pt MM/TC with Shae
    50 pt MacBain
    75 pt MacBain

All games were played using SR rules for time and scenario.

I have to say I've had fun playing Mercs. While they aren't great for winning the way Skorne, Cygnar, or my Cryx are not being a true faction, they still have a lot of synergy thanks to the solos and even though the contracts are a bit of a bother/limiting, you can still build some really good lists. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue playing them (well past Gencon as I'm heading there and playing in several of the events this week). I did win an invite to the Carolina invitational (includes NC, SC, and GA) so I may play them at that event in November, although I'm not sure as I'd prefer to play Cryx at something like that or Skorne as I've only lost once with them in tourney play. Mercs are fun though. So much weird stuff they can do thanks to the different builds. Hey if anything, I've got a lot of new stuff to try in Cryx and Cygnar. OAC are really good with Cygnar, I find they are awful in Mercs as I'll take Nyss anyday.

    Two Games:
pMagnus vs Bethayne (25 pts, Mosh Pit): Bethayne was in her warbeast. Talon was in charge range after popping feat the turn before. Magnus was in spray range, Remegade boosted to shoot scythean and knockdown bethayne, Talon charged.

pMagnus vs Strakhov (25 pts, Killing field): After the talon stalled the devastator, Strakhov popped feat but misjudged charging Rorsh and Brine. pMagnus popped feat beforehand and repositioned for a charge. Reinholdt buying another ranged attack for Magnus, followed by charging talon

My view on the talon has completely changed.
