With no merc experience hardly at all, I've won 5 out of my last 6 games with Tier 4 Damiano. And the 6th was a dice fluke. Very very rewarding

I'm talking about experienced opponents with solid lists too. eButcher, eStryker, Baldur, Thyra, Fiona, etc.
Dam is so subtly powerful that its not immediately obvious, with his spells, abilities, and the abilities of the steelheads combining into an answer for nearly everything. No crutches, nothing to whine about when you beat someone. You endure the upkeeps, you just deal with everything, muck through the difficult terrain, and profit.

The list is so balanced that its hard to counter it fully. No obvious win condition means you don't know what angle your loss is going to come from when Damiano finally kills you

Had to show a young upstart Khadoran that just because he can be in the center of the table on turn 1, doesn't mean he should... Thanks to Double Powder Rations & a cycled Snipe at the appropriate time, double Obliterators on Harkevich's melon from 20" away!! Lost 4 Halbies to a lucky bombard scatter...

Then came the time of the noms!!

Second game - Can you guess what the silly youth did that he said he wasn't going to do, right before we broke for lunch?? Yarp!! He as in the middle of the table again!! This time, the dice gods showedd pity on the poor urchin, and left the Iron Wolf with four hit boxes left... After a few turns of slugging it out, I had lost quite a few Steelheads, but no entire units. My opponent had 4 inert warjacks, a wardog with no master, and that infamous sharp dressed gobber - Reinholdt.

Shae killed Nemo. Or rather, Hawk + Press Gangers killed Nemo. Once again. Though this time under my opponents command as we had switched armies.
I also played against his Ashlynn. Turns out that swamping Ashlynn with Storm Raging Hawk, Bosun Grogspar and 5 Pay Day'ed Press gangers will only result in Ashlynn Riposting everything that missed. Since she had popped her feat, EVERYTHING missed. His turn, she just walked into combat with Shae and killed him dead.
So it's a loss for Shae but a win for Ashlynn.

Damiano vs eNemo on Vassal, basically Nemo had 3 iron clads, and I had Roci, d-dogs, bucc and piper.
I was sure I'm going to lose all the way, but it ended up with he's 3 clads on their backs thanks to the dogies, Nemo trying to run from an assassination by Damiano and gets stab in his back by bucc, mercs style.

After three rounds of hideous tactical and strategical screw-ups a plenty, I managed to kill Kara Sloan with a Sea Dog's Money-Shot'ed pistol round and a booster hit and damage shot from Shae's Hand cannon. I notice that the less models I have left, the better I do. It was my first ever 35 pts game, I had only played 15 pts before, so it was a lot more to think about.
My gameplay significantly improves when I'm in a bad position.

Must be coming from playing Pirates and always focusing on doing the best I could with the resources I had. There was usually something strategically sound to do, no matter how many pirates or solos had gone and died.
Anyway, I don't think I deserve that win, but he left an opening and I seized his metaphorical balls. So, another kill for Shae, first caster kill I've ever made with him shooting someone.

Finally putting my numbers in - a little of Macbain (4-2), Ashlynn (2-1) and Magnus (2-0).

Last win with Magnus was really pulled out of the hat. Used Arcantrik Bolt to put stationary on a Wroughthammer sitting in my backfield against a Durgen list (it was marshalled and couldn't shake - never underestimate an additional 4" deployment zone followed by a run and a pronto!).

Then used it to kill Thor who was sitting on one of the objective markers 10" away (had to cast it twice though). And on the same activation used his fist to KD a Bokur so my last halberdier could charge safely past and finish off the last OAC sitting on the middle objective (and touch the objective for control). Just barely giving me the win on points. Good thing too - another turn would have seen me open to Durgen's nasty little gun (reeeaaaallllly did not like 3 four inch templates on my poor halberdiers....)

Blaize beat Fiona in a fluffy Morrowan vs Thamarite show down. Had full Steelheads, full Devil Dogs, full Precursors with UA, Gun Mages, Gallant Rupert and Reinholdt because I had the point. Not an ideal list, but lots of bodies for her feat and Transference. He was running Fiona with Boomhowler, Cannon Crew for the free focus, full Longgunners with UA, Aiyana & Holt, pEiryss, a Buccaneer and a Mariner.

The terrain really screwed us up as we had a river through the middle cutting the board in half with forests on both sides. It was a pain but hampered both of us equally so it wasn't too bad. I'd prefer to replace the Devil Dogs with Forge Guard, but they're still on order so I'll have to wait. And I haven't played my Mercs since MK I days so I was a bit rusty. It was a very fun game and ended up in a one on one showdown between Blaize and Fiona where Blaize eventually killed Fiona after I believe three turns! They both had issues hitting each other, but Blaize's higher P+S won out eventually. Flank would have helped a LOT, but Gallant was a wreck and the Precursors were all dead thanks to Long Gunners shooting through everything.

Overall it was a fun game and I really like Blaize, just going to take some more practice to really get the hang of her.

Ran a Highborn Gorten list against the tiered stealth Retribution caster. Even with lousy rolls from my opponent, I got owned (had one last chance to throw 15 on three dice to nail his caster with both barrels, but I missed and called game). Not to say I'd cater my list (forgeguard work well against Ret -- they can hit them, but they have a hard time putting them down), but it might be time to remove Nyss, even with the solid ground / no blast damage perk. Thinking about Absent's comment on another thread about how ATGM + UA + mule is 16 points, and for that cost, I could probably get something that works better into the late game. Still love ATGM + UA, but the mule might be getting yanked. Reinholdt is questionable, too -- can you reload after both barrels? -- but lucky charm is good for Molten Metal.

Lost against EMadrak. Blaize killed a bomber and an earthborn with 7 focus and flashing blade. Also put Mulg down to 1/2 health at the same time. Reach + flank + flashing blade = awesome. And if I had remembered Blessed, may have possibly killed Mulg. If we could have remembered who put that animus up. Anyways Mulg killed Blaize in 2 hits.

Ran two 50 point games. First game was prepping for the Wrath event, and meant all Battlegroups! Bad Seeds Emags, Nomad x2, Mangler, Defender, sentinel, Renegade x 2. Mule. Against Kara, Squire, Triumph, T-head, Defender , Hunter x 2, Cyclone and a Stormclad. Mobility got me where I needed to be, and sentinel absorbed enough Damage to get my Heavy Hitters into melee. The game ended with the Mangler introducing his Ball and chain to Kara's face.
Second Game was BAd Seeds again. E mags, Defender, Nomad x 2, Talon, Sentinel, max commandoes with 2 scattergunners, saxon, kell, orin, ranger max sk ambushing. It was a solid game where I popped feat, but we both forgot..it was late. ENd game was MAgs charging Kraye and ap charging ftw.

Ran two games with Blaize on Wednesday, went 1-1. First game was a loss vs pVlad, with a Gun Carriage, Beast, Drago and Doom Reavers. I was running Blaize, Gallant, ATGM, eEiryss, Aiyana & Holt, full Precursors with UA, full Steelhead Halberdiers, Rhupert and Reinholdt. The Gun Carriage was MVP for him, as those rough terrain AOE's were crippling to me with only Eiryss and Rhupert for pathfinding. Add in trying to crack all that heavy armor and it was an uphill battle. It ended up with Blaize getting a Beast to the face.

Second game went better, though I wasn't too enthusiastic to begin with. I went against eIrusk with a pair of Destroyers, two mortars, two full Winderguard units with UA's and Kovnik Joe. After my last battle with the AOE's off the Gun Carriage, 4 of them a turn were frightening. Add in the Fire for Effect Mortar and it was more than a bit terrifying. I lost some Precursors from the super mortar, but got to his lines relatively intact. The Halberdiers were awesome, tying up one of the Winterguard units and providing souls to Blaize. All I can ask from my cheap cannon fodder unit, lol. The Precursors did ok, mostly died but put some damage on a Destroyer. ATGM's did some nice flanking and harassing of the other Winterguard unit and putting some damage on a Destroyer. In the end Blaize and Gallant wrecked the Destroyers and killed Irusk. I did forget Flashing Blade, which could have wrecked the Destroyers in style, but I still got the job done and won the game, just took a little longer, lol.

Overall, I'm happy with Blaize, though I'm still waiting on a more ideal list as I get more Mercs.

Another 3 wins with Gorten, Eyriss and Nyss took down Stryker in a hail of fire, Shae got bashed up by a Forge Guard on the charge for the second one and Doctor Arkadius took stabbed by 3 Nyss on the charge.

Magnus gets 2, he went all rocket boom boom vs Ironhide and Carver got served up with a nice side of meet Harlen and his 4 shots of doom when you have a spell up... some ok rolls nearly finished him but then Carver casting Mobility and taking a final shot to the face in his activation was a thing of beauty.

Game 2
A failed assassination attempt during turn 2 left pMorghoul with 3 life left. There was a Nihilator in the way so I couldn't get more than 1 Sea Dog Crew onto him. Had already inflicted some serious pain with Storm Raging Hawk and my Sea Dogs had also been given Pay Day. Had I been smart, I would have opened a small hole so that I could have picked of that Nihilator with a cannonball. But anyway, two turns later I managed to kill Morghoul with the smallest of margins ever. My Commodore could reach his titan. With around a fourth of an inch to spare. Maybe less. Slammed it backwards 1 inch and killed the warlock on the collateral damage roll.

Game 1

Had put out Veil of Mist to move through the Ironclad. Had casted Coup de Main. Had Hawk and Press Gangers ready to bear down on Kraye.
Then A&H move up. Aiyana put the kiss on him. I thought "why not just shoot him up to soften the target a bit with H?"
Turns out Holt himself could kill Kraye without anything other than his companions help.
Don't get me wrong, it was convenient. But I was building up a glorious assassination run with multiple pieces and all the synergies and it...
It was a Premature Assassination, let's call it that.

Game 3
Really close game versus Harkevich. My buccaneer missed his boosted net when he charged Black Ivan, Ivan dodge 2 inches to my right. Blocks Hawks line of sight to Harkevich as well as a few of my Press Gangers. To boot, my Jury-Rigged Freebooter now couldn't reach him even after I had popped feat and casted Coup de Main.
Had the net hit, I would have gone to town with 3 attacks on Ivan, all at 14+3d6 (and another 1d6 for the charge) and Hawk and the Press Gangers would have assaulted the Khadoran caster. The little setbacks during those critical moments. Shae ended up eating a Fortune'ated Black Ivan with 3 focus to the face...

First two games with Ashlynn, lost to Scaverous, didn't realise what those damn purgers did till he popped em like a spot all over my Forge guard and gun mages all massed on an objective.

Second vs eSkarre, her evil ~ can't touch me or my cool stuff feat that got totally outshone by Ashlynn's as gun mages took down 7 Satyxis Raiders in melee, Nyss ripped apart the last of the Raiders + a min unit of Bane Knights, Nomad trampled some of the you can't target me stuff into dust ....in response the only thing he hit was my Nomad with a Deathjack for a total of 5 dmg (picking 2lots snake eyes was so much fun :P)
