    Default My Menoth PLog

You can check out all of the images here: Flickr Gallery

So I started painting my battlegroup of Menoth!!!! Woo!!! Light red, not pink. Light red. Still have to start on my Harbinger and Daughters.

So I decided to try some new things out.... like using gray primer. I usually either use black or white but I was like... "HEY! I've never used gray primer" So I did. Not a big fan. Also my first time using a really light color. My two warhammer armies are a dark red and a dark blue/orange. Watering down the colors to get a thin coat is kinda throwing me off some but I got the hang of it now..... Will post up more pics in a day or so

Grey is nice, but I think for Menoth you want to go with white. I based my trolls grey and it was great, but they are more earth tones. The main purpose of watering down the paints is to get a smooth even coat. If you go straight from the bottle (I see your using Citadael which are the thickest of our options) it is gonna obscure the fine details on the surface. Even the thinnest paint options for us (Vallejo) I still thin down a little bit.

The bases are gonna look awesome on your models. What are you aiming for for your final color scheme?

Very smoth lightish red you got there - reminds me of RVB Donut

Curious to see what they'll look like when done.

This is a suggestion, I am not 100% sure it will work, To avoid the pink, you need to put a touch of brown, or use a browner red, this will darken it a bit, and keep it out of the pastel area where pink lives.

I am not a color theorist, but that is what i would try to move away from pink.

Presuming that is what you want to do.(Which is the impression I got from the It's Light Pink comment)

Yea they are currently pink. I'm going to do a baal red wash across the whole thing which will darken up the pink. I did a test on the shield and forgot to post that up. But its going to be a light red with darker red trim and alot of golds.

Edit: OOOO!!!! I uploaded the shield

The red looks a bit weird, there appears to be a bit patchy, Did you put a descent base colour on before washing it?

I know everyone was wondering where my amazing pink menoth went.... well i've been hard at work painting.... and purchasing.

On the left, from bottom to top: Menoth battle group (painted), daughters of the flame (painted), plastic heavy jack (currently being magnetized), harbinger (mostly assembled), exempler bastions (purchased today), wracks(purchased today)

On the right, all of which were also purchased today: Dervish, vanqisher, 2x vassel

    Painted battlegroup

    Painted daughters

I will post up some good photos of the painted models when I get the time to set up my light box.

I gotta tell you the pinkish color was concerning me but you did promise us all that you were going for red so I stopped worrying. They are looking very lovely so far...you have quite the project set up for you...WOW.

Yea... Alot to paint. I am going on my 1 week spring break soon so I should have some time to just sit down and do it. The pictures are super orange so that is not the real color of the army...

You should be able to change the white balance to correct the yellowing in your pics.

Log update. Plastic Heavy has been magnetized. All of my bases have been cobble-stoned and painted. And everything has been primed. I purchased some gesso after reading a forum post and tried it out. The white gesso required a bit of water so i used the black. It came out well, no model detail was lost.

    .... next is painting everything....
