Relatively productive day today; built and primed a Paladin of the Wall and a Vigilant for my A-Kon pSeverius list, and got the officer of my unit of Exemplar Cinerators started. But my GF, who was kind enough to let me have them, had used gray primer on them, which is a pain to paint my scheme over (lots of metals). Not complaining, though, since it omitted two steps I would have have to go through anyway and lets me get to the painting, so a bit of extra work is nothing to grump about.![]()
"Is that gasoline I smell, Mr. Gideon?"
Finished base-coating the metal on my Ironclad and figured out how I'm going to paint it and where I'll deviate from the standard box color scheme.
Wrapped up the last of my Federation fleet today, just in time for the decals to arrive in the mail!Perfect timing! Will spend some time over the next several days putting decals on. No idea what I'll paint tomorrow ...

I'm just about done with reworking my minions, I'm down to Orin Midwinter who is done outside of the whites of his eyes, Gundrun who I have started re-base-coloring into a mostly brown theme, and the Totem Hunter who I still have to make some color decisions on.
I had originally painted all my minions into the same colors as my Skorne because I liked the idea of them just being cohesive on the table, and I realized as I played them more that I didn't think it looked right. I had the same issue with the non-gator and non-farrow models in their respective pacts, and it gave me the opportunity to deviate from my normal palate even further.
As a side benefit, using the same colors throughout made it too easy to not think about who could benefit from what abilities (not that it came up much since I tend to play the faction-blind warlocks anyway), and even within minions there are a number of gator- or farrow-only abilities and now I have a visual reminder that certain models are not eligible targets. That does mean that I need to think about my Trogs a bit though; they are Gator green but I'm really not sure how else to paint them.
The above is my personal opinion, and in no way should be taken as representative of the overall Skorne community. Even when I claim otherwise.
Skorne on date ... when did Primal Mk I hit again?
Current WIP still to do final hightlights/shade parts of the sword and base! having issues doing True Metallics!

Totem Hunter, Gundrun, and Orin Midwinter are done:
Now I just have to decide if I'm reworking the Bogs or not.

Its been a while, I've been working on my Cygnar for lock and load, but I'm so proud of this one, that I figured I'd drop it in the box here.

Its my second serious conversion, but I'm pretty happy to have it come out even close. Now, to paint it just like!

hate to say it but..... your wings are folded the wrong way.... natural wings (or any known animal either reprile, bird or mamal) dont fold "upwards" that only happens at the shoulder. any upward bend you see would only be in flight, and is usually exaggerated by feathers.... hope it's not to late to fix...

RE: Honestly I'm ok with that. Drakes, dragons and Archidon's aren't real creatures. I've seen this type of pose a number of times for dragons and Pterodactyls, so It does not bother me if its not perfectly realistic.
Also: you say its bent the wrong way, but give no advice to how it should have been, if I was to fix it, what would be the proper, just bend them backwards towards the rear?

continued work on a gun carriage commission.
i've been moding a hunter to be hanging out of a tree. using its axe, that has been stuck in the tree, to act as an anchor.
look at the picture of the drake you posted, from the hand joint the wings are folded inwards under the rest of the wing.
as for how to get it from it's current position to that... im not sure it would be possible... that much strain would probably just snap the metal right down the center...

Just my own input here... in the source picture the wings aren't bent upwards, they're actually curled down and then back up. That type of winged creature you can imagine that the wing is an arm with really long fingers and webbing between the fingers. So take some paintbrushes/pencils/sticks in between your fingers, put your knuckles on the ground, and see how they can fold backwards and "up".
Oh, and I really don't think it's that big of a deal. It's a fantasy miniatures game ffs :P
Got some work done on my second Paladin of the Wall; cape and man skirt are done (only needing a black wash to tie it together now), as well as his sword and his few bits of chain mail, and his wee tiny bit of face. Now to do the armor and shield and he will be happening!

Great work there! I've been looking for pictures of painted Swamp Horrors, they seem to be hard to come by. I'm about to start painting mine, and I'm curious to see different paint schemes. As for the tank I hope you have Pinkie Pie popping out of the side with a party cannon. I must thank you btw, after seeing your avatar a hundred times while checking the forums, I finally decided to see what MLP was all about, and I've been hooked, I'm a true brony now. And R.D. is my favorite pony too, lol!
This thread is a nice find!
I recently got back into Warmachine after buying a bunch of models a year ago and not playing with them, My goal for the month is to paint at least 30-60 minutes every day, and I've been successful at that for the last two weeks. In that time I've managed to finish up a trio of Stormcallers and pStryker that were lying around in various stages of completion, and painted an Ironclad from scratch. No pictures though.
I feel like I'm getting better every day; keeping a consistent schedule is really working out.
I finished my second Paladin of the Wall today, with photos in a separate thread. Next up, the Vigilant and finishing the Cinerator officer!
"Is that gasoline I smell, Mr. Gideon?"
I usually have to wait for my days off from work to paint, and usually spend 4-6 hours building and painting on those days!
"Is that gasoline I smell, Mr. Gideon?"
Thanks! Personally, I think it was the marathon painting sessions that burned me out and made me drop the hobby altogether for months at a time. Spreading it out into drips and drabs keeps me alert. And I'm not adventurous enough to mix my own colors yet, so it doesn't really matter if I leave a model/unit halfway through.
Elteyr your my new hero...
the problem i have with some kind of Epic display like those, i could never justify playing with them -_-;
ill stick with my Good Tabletop quality painting with little to no base work. i am terrible at basing... i want uniform color scheme throughout my playing army and thats about it.
EDIT: Oh i have assembled my first Kayazy Elims... i gotta order 2 more units but i wanted to play test just the one unit. I am also at a stopping point with my Beast-09 conversion. i used my Plastic Jug from the 2-player i split with one of our newer players. the pose and the work i did looks awesome for the first time i did this lol. i am waiting on the Beast-09 cowl and Head to arrive and i need to make my custom Pin-Spikes for the shoulder. using brass rod i am going to make 3 shallow pins in the shoulders of Beast-09 Conversion and then using my File i will take and shave them to sqaure spikes. and depending on the size of the Cowl from Beast-09 i may try to fit the cowl to my Jug after some intense trimming and shaving. first will be a mock up to see if its doable xD

I could see that, Personally I have a raging case of A.D.D. and although it is very commonly known for people with A.D.D. to have a short attention span, what is less well known, is that when we find something that we like, our A.D.D. won't let us stop thinking about it. Almost obsessive. thats why I tend to work on a model until its complete.
PICTURES!!!lets see it! I looked over your link, they look good!
I play with my modded models, sort of like peacock feathers at my lgs. lol
I recently picked up a plasma ball to use with a mod on a storm strider but I can't afford the B.E. itself, so the plasma ball is sitting on my work table taunting me. lol
Finished pMadrak, complete with homemade rocks. I tried experimenting with painting the pieces of the model separately, then assembling after sealing each one.
Next on the painting block for trolls: Rok, Blitzer, Scouts. As for Cryx: Finish refurbishing eSkarre, Mechanithralls, and Bile Thralls.

What are you doing here, reading this? You should be out watching The Avengers! Seriously. Go now.
I, however, am stuck at work and can't go see it for the third time. Yet.
So, busy week. Monday and Tuesday I painted all of the frigates, battle frigates and police cruisers for my Federation commission job. Today saw two old light cruisers and the fast cruiser. Tomorrow will be the big boys, the Dreadnought and the two battlecruisers.
What, you're still here? Seriously. The Avengers. Now.
Oh, and stay all the way through the credits.

I don't think the Archidon's wings were meant to be able to fold and tuck like the drawing. It just looks... Weird, seeing the wings folding up that way, which in most cases in an IRL scenario it's bones would be broken in the process of it doing what you posed it to do. The idea was good on paper, but it's hard to translate that onto the model.

Just a suggestion for her base, but fire's color spectrum is based on heat. The hottest colors are near the center, the cooler parts are at the tip of the flames. Starting from white, moving to blue, then yellow, then orange. You could keep that yellow as the base for it, and just build the darker colors out from it.
Fire's hard to do, it requires a lot of blending to look good. An easier way to sort of get it done is to just paint the fire yellow, dry- brush orange over it, then hit the tips with a darker orange. It'll get the job done, it just won't look as good as blending.
Then again, it's a fantasy game, so do whatever you want :P
