that looks pretty awesome. I have to ask, what do you mean by the term "printed." I can see its a technical term of some sort in this context, so what does that mean?
I wasn't sure where to post this. Originally I had started a thread on the Fan Art section but now I have gotten to the point where I am ready to paint him up. So here he is:
I figure I can get more feedback and help with the actual painting process here then I could on the fan art page. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy.
Oh yeah and heres the 3d model I sculpted to get the print:

my goodness its typhon extreme. it is hard to tell without it being primes but it looks AWESOME
how sturdy is the material? how expensive was it? could you print more? that would make a great gift for a legion player of mine
in other words.
AWESOME!!!!!!
man that white blob is at its feet is a large base, that is ridicules

it's a 3D printout from a CAD program if I'm not mistaken. I probably designed it through a cad program and then had it created by a 3D printer that works by utilizing a powder resin that is solidified by a liquid catalyst, or it could have been a laser light catalyst. I'm sure he'll respond to let us know what kind of printer was used, after all, we are all curious. BTW, it looks awesome!!!!!
looks like someone decided to 1up figureprints.com kudos to you!![]()
The eye of Menoth is apon you heathen. The avatar of his righteous fury shines on the field of battle, awash in the blood of the unworthy. Tremble and feel shamed for you are unworthy of his notice.
i saw that in the fan art section and it looked great but photos of the real thing look even better. i cannot wait to see that thing painted!
also, you may as well tun on your PMs because you are going to receive questions about that gorgeous sculpt for years.
Holy Cow!That Sculpt is mind-blowingly AWESOME!
I can't wait to see that thing painted up.
Um, wow.
Okay, so... Titan Bronzeback extreme?
I have to say I like your transition between the heads and the main body far more than on the original. He's a really awesome looking, sculpt? I'm not quite sure how to descibe it.

My god, both the 3D model (you should seriously consider going into a job for that sort of thing if you're not already) and the material mini itself are drool worthy.

very cool. Did you use someone online to do the printing?
To ask a slightly intrusive question.
How much did that printing cost, and how well does the material take to paint?
No Pity for the Majority
Thank you very very much guys!
docsid: teejay pretty much nailed it on the head. the only thing different that i would add is that the original sculpt was done in ZBrush and exported out in stl format for the 3d printers.
PG_fuzzypants: the resin used was very high quality and pretty sturdy. i wouldnt exactly throw it out the window but it is sturdy enough where it wont break apart if it falls over. kinda imagine a resin garage kit if you know what i mean. as far as reproduction or sale goes i can not in good conscience do that so this will be a one off for my own legion obsession. sorry buddy
teejayv, DemonCalibre, tonyzahn: i go to these guys http://www.cadcam4u.com/
their website got alot of good info on the tech. the company's owner was introduced to me by a buddy of mine and his shop was not far from where i work. as for price, i paid $150 for him and hes about 3 inches tall. i hope i can post up the based model soon to show the details off to you guys. up close he looks exactly like the 3d model and since he was never cast, he never lost any of the details.
oh and the printing paints pretty well. just make sure to wash it properly as when they first give it to you it has a coat of soap/waxy substance that is part of the printing process. once its been properly cleaned it is not much different from a resin kit. if anyone has ever worked with a forgeworld mini they know what i mean.
to the rest of you guys thank you very much for the support! you have no idea how much of a boost i got from this.

Now, that rocks!
Love to see a step-by-step when you paint it to see how the painting goes on the material choosen for the figure.
Wow! I too saw it in the fan art section but seeing it as an actual miniature is going to be TOTALLY SWEET! Man, I wish I had access (or even the skill!) to use 3D software and printers. You must have had fun designing this. What kind of expense is involved with printing him?
Proud owner of a Bridge Troll Plushie!
Do you have the original Typhon model? A side by side size comparison would be great.

This is the awesome-sauce. It's almost tempting to give it a half-transparent glaze and have it be a "Spectral Typhon", heh. Heck, it'd be tempting to make a Cryx army like that.

Holy ****...
I can only hope your an excellent studio quality painter, cause that would be a shame for that to have a couple red smears for eyes if ya know what I mean...
Again...
Holy ****...awesome. Just awesome.
how long did it actually take you to design that from beginning to end, and how user friendly is the program? I've used CAD, and it's not really all that simple, you definitely need training for it.
words fail me...
Hey guys, heres a small update. My camera sucks so I'm gonna wait till tomorrow to take pictures of him while primed.
I dont have the original typhon but I had him posed next to my carnivean. The carnivean looks a hell of alot better in person. For the life of me I have no clues how you guys take such great pics. Enjoy!

God I'd love to paint that..:3 Actaully looks easyer than the normal Typhon sclupt.
I'm jealous of that.
Dude, you should try your hand at Warjacks.

Wow. That is just ... astonishing. Seriously, it is a beautiful sculpt; no question, I'd be very happy to lay down money for that as an official release. In fact TBH I think it's better even than the official sculpt, which I've always really liked in its own right.
Kudos, man.
Amazing, like uh really amazing. Great job. I wish I had the skills to do that on my computer, someday I want to do a 3up Shredder.

As time goes on and this type of "printing" becomes cheaper, minis companies are going to have a hard time keeping a handle on their IPs.
This is great work. I wonder if the soft-copy original could be cut into several parts and printed in those pieces to facilitate mold-making and casting....PP should hire you!
What is with the double base? By the way he does look awesome.

Aagh. This is like Banachucks warmachine cards. This thing done by a forum memeber is just so cool when compared to the PP original and I can't get one!
Honestly, offer this to PP as the Typhon Extreme. I'll buy this model again no problem.

I can't believe how beautiful it is. You really reached into your brain and pulled out a winner definately. I am really looking forward to then end result. Next, a new Gorax model...that is right...the original has to go. Too bad you can't bend the claws of his left leg over and around the rock he is based on like he is gripping it...it does look off a bit in the pictures.

OMG I didn't even know this technology existed.
You've made what typhon should have been.
Beautiful rendering! I like the relative more spiky-ness of your Typhon.
Love, time, + money = a beautiful creation.

I think that PP would be fools if they didn't offer you hard cash for the file so they could get their own made and cast. Seriously it's cool that you can have the only one in existence but something that cool and in a format that can easily be copied should be shared.
Amazing work BTW.
Cheers!

I recently learned about this technology, but it really is great to see what you've done with it! Nice!
I really have to say that is a wonderful model.
Looking forward to seeing it painted.
Knew a little about the technology involved in creating this. Your model is a nice example of what can be done.

This is without a doubt the most amazing thing I've ever seen on these forums.
Bravo to this amazing creation!

Looks like he's on a 50mm base for correctness, but then that got stuck on a 60mm GW base to prevent him from falling over on his face(s). I personally would just have gotten a metal 50mm base - I'd hate to have to DQ a gorgeous thing like this in one of my events over something mundane like base size.
"Just because he's a good father doesn't necessarily mean he isn't a villain."
God Damn! That looks good!
Singaporean players! UNITE!!!!
He does look a bit front heavy. He probably should have been mounted further back on the 50mm base so that the rear foot was hanging off the back. That should be far enough to get the centre of gravity over the base. But Typhuss is the only one who knows for sure how it sits.
Our Warmachine and Hordes Blog.
Agamemnon, M'Lady, Defenstrator, PG_Cloud-Gatherer: yeah at first i started with the 50mm base but like other PG_Cloud-Gatherer said the from part of him was weighing too much and i didnt want to take the risk of him toppling over so i had to mount him to a 60mm base. however i had planned to add terrain bits and greenstuff to blend the bases together. on hindsight i wished i had known there were metal bases out there for 50mm.
right now the base actually extends under his left paw so its not floating out there. in my over zealousness i jumped the gun with posting pics before it was done.
teejay: this took me some 1-2 weeks to come up with. the actual sculpting went pretty quick but it was more of an culmination of sketches and roughs that too a bit of time to do. after that it came pretty natural for the rest of the form to flow. one of the biggest challenges was finding a nice method of the necks to flow into the body. one of things that irked me about the original was that transition. that and the really long tail bothered me as it didnt seem quite right but thats just my tastes.
to the rest of you guys, thanks for the support, it means a lot to me. if pp ever wanted me to do work i would jump at the chance, especially the gorax... but until than this will just be a one off from a fan. maybe after this one i might do a shredder or seraph, haven't decided yet. maybe my own version of terminus or at the very least a redo of his head. but first things first, gotta get this guy painted. i will try to post some pics next weekend, hopefully... anyways, thanks again for the support guys! have a great one
You can also add a metal base (or three) under the plastic 50mm base. Then again, taller is more likely to topple.
Good luck, and keep us posted!

This is incredible! I had no idea such things could even be done. Really cool stuff here.
I'm putting in my vote for a Shredder next! One of the cutest lil ugly guys in the whole game. Just make sure he can stand securely on a regulation 30mm base.![]()
Wow.... thiers really not enough words to describe how fantastic that is.
I to am total shocked thiers a tech out thier to do this?!?!?
I wonder... is this printing method something you can use with smaller figs? or does it have a limit to its scale?
And I say PIMP it out to PP![]()

There are some gaming companies out there that design their models in 3D, then chop up the resin print for molds.
I wish PP would do that -- might be a cheaper alternative to having a sculptor do a green master, only to hate it, but have to push it through production because of timelines.
Maybe that's how the Gorax got through. Couldn't ask the sculptor to do another in time. LOL.
This is so freaking outstanding! Great job on all levels of getting this beast done.
Keep those pics coming!
