Default Houseguard Riflemen Unit - UA Update

So my camera/monitors are being stupid and it's making it really hard to get the right colour ballence. However these ones turned out alright on at least one of my monitors so they're the ones that get shared.

This unit was frustrating and fun at the same time. Houseguard I think are my most favorite sclupts for retribution now that I've painted them. And up until the grey, they were the most fun I've had painting in a while. However as you may be able to tell, the grey seemed to want to be a hastle and it came out much to contrasted for my liking. Still, they look great to me under my desk lights.

One more thing is, I've still got the UA to paint which will probably be better since I'll have more time to spend on it and less models to chain though. Here's the one thing I'd like to know though: Who would be intersted in a how to video for this colour sheme? I figure I could paint up the standard in front of a lense and make a quick video going though the colours and techniques I use, but it'd be alot of work, and if no one wants it, it'd be for nothing, and I'm just too lasy too do things for nothing. Anyway, enough rambling, picture time.

I like the paint scheme. Probably my favorite on the Retribution that I have seen. I would be interested in seeing said video.

    Very nice.
Love the muted colors- I'm a big fan of that, and I think it's a great and fairly unexpected choice for these models.

a video would be great and I'm sure it'd be of interest to many.

The glow is really strong, when contrasted with the darker more muted colours. It's very eye-catching. I'm not sure if a bit too much, heh.

Good job, but to make sure my eyes are not deceiving me, the leader's eyes also got the glow?

I really like your paint scheme. It is subdued but still has some pop.
Overall it has a realistic feel to their appearance.

I like the color's also, you can almost see them moving through the autumn forests, their uniforms blending in with the gray bark on the trunks of the trees.

Great color scheme. While it's "just" gray, it looks really, really nice and cohesive, and ties the entire unit together. Please keep us posted on the rest of the unit/army as well.

Though the actual choices of colors are not what I would use, I do love the muted, subtle look, and I think you did an excellent job. They really look great.

Video or not, I'd love to know the colors you used, especially the red leather and the armor.

The more dilute colors of the armor come together so completely. I am not a fan of retribution models at all but these...I do like. Your bases really warm up the colors of the figures and bring the unit all together.

More toys. So I've tested the camera, bought a new light, though that turned into a semi disaster (stupid thing isn't for screw in bulbs), and worked more on an open. So while it may take a little while still, I'll probably do a videocast with some instructions on mah colour scheme.

First though, I had to get these guys done, and decided the standard was a terible model for a painting lesson so have a Magister for that instead.

Here's the last two for a full squad (still not based but it's 9 AM and I've got to get some sleep before a party).

I agree with what others have said. That is one of the best Retribution paint schemes I have seen. For me, it makes them fit in with the rest of the iron kingdoms and takes them out of the "space elves" realm

Have to agree with the above poster. I don't know what PP was thinking when they declared that white was the official Retribution scheme. It looks terrible on most of their models, as well as plain and boring. Would love to see more alternate schemes, and yours is brilliant.

Interesting idea, on the square-WH base. Do you glue it, or it's good enough for them to just stand there?

Ditto. I'm getting ready to paint my retribution army and I'm looking at schemes, and I'm really liking this one.

I would also like to throw my vote in for the vid

Most of the time the peg on thier foot is enough but if it's not I'll glue just the peg in. The square bases are actaully nice for units cause you can stand them in a line right side by side and have a more efficient 'assembly line'.

No need to worry here, the whole reason for doing it in a video is to show how I apply the mixes, since it would be just as easy to let you know what they are with words on the internet. It wont be a constant streem of me just painting the guy since I don't have 8 hours of video, but I'll show how I apply each colour and explane my tedious and unnessicary way of doing metalics.

Thanks for the link to the casters and solo's the theme looks great on them as well, I love the almost stone looking armor. The yellow eye glow looks great on kaeyssa, just finaly decided on a color scheme for my ret today (as much as I love this one I won't steal it) but a vid would be great maybe improve my techneques.

Would you be willing to break it up into a couple different vids? I know its more work, but it might be more beneficial to us. E.g: Do a vid on the soft armour, then one on the hard armour.
