Default Strakhov speedy list 35 pts

    Strakhov +6
    Beast 09 11 PC
    Full Uhlans 11 PC
    Kovnik Markov 4 PC
    Drakhun with dismount 5 PC
    Fenris 5 PC
    30 pts

I had success with this in a 35 pt game, not realizing I was down 5 because Im an idiot...

So I need a 5 pt filler. options range from great bears, yuri and a manhunter, to a&h with wardog. Thoughts opinions?

I'm really wanting to stick to the very fast and hard hitting theme.

    edit:

    Strakhov +6
    war dog 1 PC
    Beast 09 11 PC
    Full Uhlans 11 PC
    Kovnik Markov 4 PC
    Drakhun without dismount 4 PC
    Fenris 5 PC
    Great Bears 5 PC
    35 pts

Great Bears or drop Drakhun Dismount and go Doomies if you can.

    Looks like a fun list.

I would probably go with great bears also.

Yah ive gone with the great bears and it has worked out nicely, lost the dismount on the drakhun and added a war dog.

How are the Uhlan's performing? I've always figured them as a one-trick pony (no pun intended) that's only good on the charge. How have you been effectively using them?

they have actually performed better than markov. I usually occulation them and use the great bears as a bodyguard for strak. The drakhun Bodyguards Fenris.

Obviously you want them to smash the enemy on feat turn but so far thats only happened 60% of the time or so. MAT 8 on the charge with pow 16 3d6 wrecks jacks and infantry alike. So far the best way i've found to charge with them is to have one impact attack and have the reach on the charge target being in range while impacting the other model (if you get what I mean) that way if you fail on the impact (which is likely with mat 6) then you won't lose out on the charge hit.

The other unsual thing I like doing is running them with 3 in a triangle ala great bears, and the other 2 in a dua with 6" or so between the groups. This provides great threat range/board coverage and you still benefit from defensive line, and from what I have seen most people don't expect the grouping I do.

The other use that I use them for is a tarpit. They are an expensive tarpit at 11 points, but throwing them at an enemy from 16" our at arm 19 with 5 box's and not bad defense usually gives me 2 turns of holding most things I want in place. If I can't get a feat charge for what ever reason, I just huck em at some infantry and let them sit there and slowly die. a pow 12 from the horse with crit knockdown turns thereafter can still kill most infantry.

Actually come to think of it most times I just use them as a tarpit which at first glance most people never consider due to the high price tag, but with many other heavy hitters in the list i dont NEED them to actually perform on a charge.

Im thinking maybe I should do a tactica on strak at some point...

That's some great info on the Uhlans. I'm going to try them out tomorrow and see how they perform for me.

Have you taken this list to 50 pts yet?

Funny you should mention that, I was trying to think of things to do last night. Full IFP with ua and then yuri and manhunter would be logical choice, but in all reality I only need this 35 part to win, so I was thinking to help me in scenarios I was going to try rorsh and brine, widows, and a marksmen. Widows can help clear charge lanes, and I really think rorsh and brine could do very well. they are fast and could keep up, along with not taking any of the focus from strak. maybe versh over marksman

Let me know how the uhlans work for you!

So I played two games today with the Uhlans and Markov and while they were a good tarpit, they seemed to suck a lot of punch out of my main force. I lost the first battle to Cryx and the second to Menoth.

I haven't given up on them yet because they are quite fun to run across the board, but I just need more practice with them before I can give my full opinion on their effectiveness. I need more practice with Strakov as well but that's another story.

Can you explain a little more how they sucked punch out of your force? they should be bringing the punch with pow 16's on the charge, wrecking a jack or two. Are you using the list you had posted?

My first game was 50 pts against Cryx Mortenebra:

    Strakhov
    war dog
    Beast 09
    Full Uhlans
    Drakhun
    Fenris
    Great Bears
    Markov
    Kayazy+UA
    Yuri
    Manhunter
    Manhunter
    Reinholdt

The Uhlans were able to take out his front line quite well but the Harrower tied the Uhlans up after that. He laughed at the POW10 spears so i had to sacrifice my Kayazy to hold up the Harrower. Bad mistake: He Ghostly, ran around them, killed them and then overran himself to Strakhov. He had enough souls to pound him out. Recalibration took care of the Wardogs +2 Def.

Game 2 I ran against 35pt Menoth pSeverius. I ran your list exactly and the Uhlans failed to take out a extremely buffed DEF17 temple flameguard. I stupidly ran Beast to take out the line with Murderous and he pounded Beast to dust after that with one of his two Crusaders. Uhlans/Markov couldn't do anything with their spears so I only had Fenris, Drakhun and the Greatbears to deal out enough damage. He still had 3 jacks (2 heavy, 1 light), 3 paladins, choir and Deliverers and a few flameguard. Fenris killed the Delivers on the long charge after the Delivers were able to CRA him off his horse, but he couldn't get enough attacks to kill the highly ARM Paladins (sat to get ARM bonus). Drakhun got the Charge on the Revenger but couldn't take him out so Revenger wrecked Drakhun. The Great Bears were poorly placed by me as I used them to guard Strakov, so the could only charge the flameguard, which the easily killed but they were all I had left against his Paladins and 3 Jacks so that was game there. I think my first mistake was charging the flameguard.

I think that I just performed poorly to be honest. I would have taken Cryx out but my poor placement and underestimation of the Harrower cost me the first game for sure.

The speed in that list is pretty devastating. However I question the actual delivering power when it gets there.

Seems in regards to the second game an imprinted beast should have threshered the flameguard and overran past or around them. MAT 8 will definately fail against def 17 for sure. Markov at mat 10 may have been able to hit them, but thats a risk there. The pow 10 spears are weak for sure, but don't forget the pow 12 mount too.

In regards to your games and Sams comment, target priority is VERY important with the list I run. You have to know what can take out what, and what you can afford to throw away. I tend to not use my uhlans on anything above def 14 unless there is nothing else there. The delivering pow is huge on everything in the list, the straying power is also there, but the damage to dish out while staying there is definately minimized to half the list there after, and those models (ie fenris, great bears, and beast) need to be in prime positions.

Yeah, I stupidly didn't cast overrun on Beast. I'm notoriously bad at remembering combos like that.

I think I do need to focus more on target priority instead of just having a model react to it's area and the opponents movement.

Thanks for the tips. I just need to work on being a better player.

and THIS is the key thing. Make your opponent react to you, not you to them!

WOOT This list got me 3rd at the LGS for the Nightfall Finale. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! The one thing I remember forgetting to do is put 3 focus on Beast bc I did not think he was going to be able to get to the caster(eThags) and guess what....he did *facepalm

I'm glad your having such success with my list. How did you play it? using occulation on uhlans or something else? Were most of your kills with Beast?

I've been playing it balls to the wall. I push fast and hard across the board and try to get strakhov in prime position by turn 2 (turn 3 latest) for the feat and final push towards the caster. Actually my Great Bears seem to get more kills. Fenris is up there too due to that 17"possibility. Honestly the very few times I used Occulation was when I knew Strakhov would be stuck somewhere unpleasant.

The uhlans unfortunately do slightly less desirable things for me than I think they should(my dice hate me though so that could be it). Often serving as a tarpit more that a kill factor. Markov however is NASTY on the table. That warhead catches a lot more that you think it will.

I think I may have to push even harder with Beast-09 to get him up in their face sooner.

What have you been having the most kills with? Anything I should know on how you're doing it? It is your list so I'm sure you've gotten more games in with it than me and I'd love advice!!

You could try the Kayazy. They have great teamwork with Strakhov. 13" acrobatic charge on the mini feat during Strakhov's feat turn will kill casters.

Usually beast gets the kill or fenris. I tend to mostly haev uhlans be a tarpit as well, but they usually can wreck a jack or two on a charge. Impact attacks work great for clearing def 12 or so infantry as well!

As Kommissar Golovko said, kayazy work well too, I use them in my 50 pt incarnation.

I like the Kayazy Idea. I used to tar pit with the Uhlans in MK1 before the loss of HP, if it's working well for you I will give it a shot.
    good list =)
