Here is my latest completed model. Sorry for the B&W photo but it will not live with me long. As Jen mentioned in her Insider Report this is for a painting exchange. Just thought I would share it with everyone.

Love the design on the flag! Can't tell too much with the black and white photos, but I'm sure it's all awesome, given your very high standard of painting. This will be your, what, 918th painted Storm Strider?

This is the second time in just a few days that I've read about forumites involved in a painting exchange. How do I get involved in something like that? I'd love to start one up if there isn't something like that in place.

Well... it is a PG thing that goes on. This if my first time participating.

As for how many Storm....I mean Spider Striders I have here is my progress so far.

I have the platforms and Coils done as well...

All I have left for the Striders proper are legs... (torsos are done but no pic yet).

The models are amazing, but I think I'm more blown away by the organization of your workspace. How do you do it? You aren't an engineer, are you? Your handwriting doesn't seem blocky enough.

Insurance agent. I learned a long time ago that a clean work space allows me to get more work done. Started out wanting to be an EE (my dad is an EE) long time ago that is probably why everything written is printed. That is a note from someone else on my desk.

If you had 40 legs to paint don't you think it would be easier to accomplish organized rather than all piled up?

I think you have more Strider legs than I have troll models in my entire army.

And I think that's freaking AWESOME! Keep us in the loop as this progresses -- I'm loving this thread!

Can't wait to see 5 Striders together. I have to confess, the sight of all those legs makes me feel sick. Seeing one line with the gold done, but then the WHOLE other line, still not started... I know how that would make me feel so much respect to you for the determination.

This is insane. Really, but in an absolutely fantastic way. I came into the thread earlier today on the last page and I've spent a few hours now enjoying the whole thread. You are an inspiration to WM players everywhere, although I hate you because clearly you are either a rich bastard or you have some serious guanxi.

I think it's your ability to follow a project through to finish, then. I'm still waiting for my putty to ship, so I keep putting half-finished projects aside. I clear a space while working on a project, but the periphery of my table is... jumbled.

20 legs completed. It is taking me about 15 min per leg to do touch ups and all the white. I am very happy with how fast this is going.

20 legs at 15 minutes each is 5 HOURS just to touch up.

I applaud your industry knowing that I will stop after 15 minutes to watch soccer or read the latest Cj Cherryh novel or just go to sleep.

Your discipline is amazing, or is it OCD?

GREAT ARMY, love the thread and keep painting. Maybe someday ... Dallas.

@R Gordon- We dont watch a lot of TV at my house. It is pretty easy to paint long sessions when you have good company to talk to and solid idea of how you want to paint your model. Once you have the technique, color and everything assembly lined out it goes pretty quick. I also say success breeds more success. The more you paint the more jazzed you will be to paint more. Right now I am super excited to get these boys on the table.

@Strangelove-6x Stormwall... that may be a little tough. I do have lots of models but my budget is not infinite. Lets just wait and see what the future holds.

@jurjazz- Thank you sir for the accolades. I strongly suggest that you start your own thread like this. In time you will also be an inspiration to others.

this is so true! if you have your first 100 points painted, you just want to go on and keep up the work as those remaining unpainted models would just stain your success in painting the others.

i am with you on that and very much enjoy both your effort and the success it produces. again: kudos, fellow cygnarian.

Wait, your actually considering 6 Stormwalls? Jeez, and here I thought you already pre-ordered them. :P

But seriously, wants moar pictures. I like seeing what a good painter does, makes me happy inside and helps stave of the overwhelming desire to have my stuff shipped out to school (which I finish in a few weeks anyway). You and Ghool are definitely a couple of my favorites (so is Mercykiller, but I haven't seen hide or hair of him for a good while).

You will be glad to know that this weekend was very fruitful. All 40 legs are fully painted and sealed. Now for some assembly and basing.

At 9 points each 6x Storm Striders can be fit into a 150 point list pretty easily. At a possible 20 points each 6x Stormwall runs 120 points. That only leaves me 45 or so points left to use.

Lets see what happens between now and release date.

would you consider selling any clear molds of the storm strider center orb? For those of us that don't have access to the tools, that is.

I wish there was a more positive answer but unfortunately I can not sell them.

I decided to take a full shot of all the finished painted pieces. For anyone thinking about painting a storm strider take note of the order I painted everything in and the stages of assembly. Flags are still in production... I believe that more green stuff will be needed to finish off all the flags I need.

    Mods to the models=

    1. Storm Smith driver- metal steering rods were replaced with brass rod.
    2. Torso- Scratch built based on original (has to hold 8 legs instead of 4)
    3. Storm Ball- 5 done in clear resin one with a Thunderball!!!!!
    4. LEDs!!!
    5. Legs- 8 legs instead of 4
    6. Flags-Added for sheer awesomeness
    7. Pins- Lots of pins in these bad boys. Two in the electrical coil to base. Pin all the way through the drivers torso for each arm. Two for each leg. 4 for the Ball. Each leg that touches the base gets 1 pin. Guard rail in front of storm smiths has two pins. I did not want these boys to come apart later.

I'm curious why you bothered with this. The steering rods are pretty unlikely to be bent through normal handling of a Storm Strider, and I would think that even if you dropped it, it'd still be unlikely that they'd get bent. Also, you're a madman

The real reason was I didnt like how the white metal ones connected. This way I was able to pin them directly through the driver platform and then through the Strider platform for a very solid not going anywhere even when people with ape hands pick the model up and go "Hey this looks loose" as they push on parts.... yeah thats the reason.

Wow, I nearly sock-jacked the last guy who did that. I don't mind people touching the mini's, but when you start pulling and prodding then you might as well start kicking a sleeping bear. A very angry bear. Who is hungry. Just sayin'.

But again, this is a very cool project. Personally I would love to see them all set out on the field. It would be a sight to behold.

And see them on the field you shall. It is that time of year again when I pull out all my models for a family pic. I am waiting till these are done for the portrait though.

In addition to that Halfhoot and I are committed to playing several 150 point games a year. One is coming up in a coupe of weeks for our Journeyman league. There will be pics... and lots of casualties if this game plays out like the last.

Actually I will have 6 Storm Striders. I feel that I will play enough games to make it worth the money/time investment. I have cheaper models that I play less... As I imagine you do also. I like to play lists that I consider fun... O and I do not like to proxy.

Think to yourself... how much fun it would be to play Nemo2 with all Chargers? That is what 50 FOC on a single turn. Thanks to Powerful shot it is an effective... 78 FOC. Or run Darius with all Hammersmiths.. imagine 3 initial attacks all boosted to hit ARM19 models that walk up in a brick that can not be knocked down. O and you can repair them.

In my last Unbound game the Storm Strider was amazing for its points. So I figured at 9 points each I can fit 6 of them into the list. The Unbound formations with them is just awesome. 2D3 drop the lowest. That should help fry more infantry me thinks.

They are also awesome to see on the table coupled along with one of my favorite looking models. Top that off with they are fun to paint/model and it is all win in my book.
