FINAL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS CAN BE FOUND HERE
This Summer there is a National Warmachine tournament coming to Canada! For the first time ever we are running a two day 32 player gauntlet for the ultimate bragging rights that span the second largest country in the world! Come out and show ‘em how we rock North of the border!
What is the Format?
The Canadian Nationals will be a two day event starting on Saturday and continuing on Sunday. There will be two simultaneous Steamroller tournaments on Saturday and one Steamroller tournament on Sunday. A 16 player 35pt Warmachine only tournament and a 16 player 35pt Hordes only tournament will take place on Saturday. The top 4 players from each of these tournament will proceed to Sunday for an 8 player 50pt three round tournament combining both game systems. The winner from this Sunday tournament will be crowned the Canadian champion!
When and Where is it?
The Nationals event will be held during FanExpo 2010 on Saturday, August 28th and Sunday August 29th. There are more details on the FanExpo website. There will be open gaming happening on Friday as well.

Hey Mael, how much will tickets be? Armies painted or no? Does 50 pt list of second day have to use the original 2 35 pt lists and just build on it? Will the 2 tournies wm/hordes be run at the same time?
Khador - 28/7/0 Strakhov "Red flash" list currently
Searforge - 3/1/0 NOW MK2 active!
Trolls - 9/3/0

Admission to the FanExpo! We might need a bit to cover the prize kit/terrain/clocks but we haven't got that far yet.Hey Mael, how much will tickets be?
No. Of course it's preferred that things are painted. Models must be fully assembled.Armies painted or no?
Two separate lists for each event. Standard steamroller requirements for separate lists.Does 50 pt list of second day have to use the original 2 35 pt lists and just build on it?
Yes, the two tournaments are simultaneous. Players will only be able to play in one or the other. Will the 2 tournies wm/hordes be run at the same time?
hmmm okay, I will have to see If I can fly out or drive there for a good price...

Sounds good to me. I think me and my brother will be coming down to check it out and support PP in Canada!
I want to see more of these sorts of national tournaments!

Hopefully the SteamPoweredCanadians from Edmonton will join in the fun. My friend and I are hoping to make the trip. Should be fun.
I am pretty sure you are going to see some faces from Ottawa (not mine tho).

Yeah man, i know. But i figured you'd have like 50 e-mails at 12:01 Sat morning.
With so few slots i think people would want to be 100% sure they got in.
Either way i'm totally looking forward to it.
quick question for ya.
Since you should need a total of 16 tables for day one, at 16 players per game, making 8 games per system.
And you should need 4 tables on the Sunday. Will the remaining 12 tables on Sunday be free for open gaming?

Hello. My payment will be later than I thought it would be. I started work on Friday, which just so happened to be payday, so I won't get paid until next Friday. I hope this isn't an inconvenience in anyway. Thanks for understanding.

HEy man, Derrick Gibson is my local PGer and he had e-mailed you about my registration. I would like to know if I am registered.
Hi Jamie this is Kenneth Samaroo,
I would like to change the faction I'll be playing. Currently I'm sighed up to play Khador and I would like to instead play my Skorne army.
Also, I'm looking at the Fanexpo tickets and just want to confirm the prices:
Basic Pass
Sat - $35
Sun - $29
or
Deluxe Pass
$59 for all 3 days
So is there a special price for the WM/H players b/c I'm really just coming down for that.
Or am I looking at $20 (tourney fee) + ($35 + $29) = $84
or
$20 (tourney fee) + ($59) = $79
Just wondering....'cause now it's getting kinda of expensive for a 1 or possibly 2 day 3-6 game WM/H tournament.
Thanks.

Hey Awk!
Yeah, that's how it goes. The admission fees are to cover the trophies and terrain (we're making quite a few tables just for this event). Unfortunately FanExpo gives us the space but i can't get anyone in for free. Don't worry, I'll make sure everything that goes into the tournament goes right back into the tournament - i'm not making any cash off this.
So yes, it is $79 for the weekend. Of course if you don't make it pass day one I would highly encourage you to do other things at FanExpo too.![]()
Sounds good Jamie. Thanks for the reply. Don't forget, I'll be playing Skorne instead of my Khador.
Thanks.

Hey, I have been unable to find the times for the tournament and the room it's located in. I've looked through the Fanexpo event PDF but haven't even seen it in that nightmare, or maybe I just suck at finding things, who knows. If you wouldn't mind hooking me up with that info, I would much appreciate it.
Thanks!

Expect a full update form Mael ASAP.
Great games all around, great second day, however I was hoarse from yelling "DQ" all day Saturday and had forgotten my camera at home so I do not have pictures of the finals winners today.
Gratz to all, it was a fun tournament with some really great players.
You guys obviously don't follow my twitter feed at all, do you?We know who the Canadian Champion is!
Jeremy White pulled Third
Paul Nguyen got Second
and...
Colin Ward pulled through and got first place!
I'll post up a big thread in the general forums tomorrow. I haven't had time to organize my photos yet, but I'll get on it soon.![]()
And this is exactly why people object to the "Canadian Nationals" name.
Either do some additional work to make this an actual Canadian tournament of regional champs or change the name.
When someone beats the best players from across the country you can claim they are the Canadian champ. Until then... not so much.
I spy a GW case in a PP picture. Congrats to the winners.
Poor form pixelgeek
Heaven forbid the Canadian Nationals, as sanctioned by PPress, be fought in Canada's largest city (and within a day's drive of 2 of other large Canadian cities, let alone cities within the USA) and be nested within an even larger event enabling the game to be showcased to potentially interested people.
Grats to the playes, and especially winners. I look forward to hearing all about it.

Hey now, you guys were invited and had at least 3 months to sign up and make it happen. It's not like I was quiet about this. We had players come in from all over Ontario and even Quebec. Unfortunately the guys from Calgary couldn't come but I ensured they had time to book the trip if things came together for them. We are definitely 100% doing it again next year so try and make the time to come out and throw down! FanExpo 2011 is already in the works!
But implying I didn't do enough work? That hurts my feelings a little. :P
Edit: That's it! Referendum! We're separating from BC! (Canadian Joke, you other guys won't get it)
When I was into Warhammer the West coaster did the same to use Ontarians (little bit of the Quebecers too).
Form Unions down on the West coast and make more money to be able to Travel, if not do not crap on people who go through the effort to Organize events, they do the work for the love of the game.
PG_Mael I would have attended and was going to sign up but they cancel the Saturday before and scheduled it on the 28th instead, sorry but I will try for next year.

I don't think it's the event anyone is complaining about. No one would suggest that running a major event is a bad thing. It's the name of the event that is implying that the winner would be the Canadian champ when there were no feeder/qualifier events and the only participants were from one or two regions.
I suppose you could have named it the "Provincial" or "Regional" or "Central" championships or something like that.
We were joking on our local forums that we should run the "Galactic WM/Hordes Championship" right out of our basement. What? No one from Alpha Centauri came? We posted for like THREE months! Shame on YOU for not having faster-than-light transport and few hundred Canadian dollars!
Anyway, no real harm done I reckon. Glad your event went well.
Yeah, the only objection I've seen from anyone is to the name. It sounds like a fine tournament, and a fun event, but unless there are feeder events from different parts of the country, I don't really see how it can be called the nationals. As a matter of fact, despite the fact that I live on the West Coast, I happen to feel that Toronto probably is the best place to have a Canadian Nationals tournament, for exactly the reasons Mael says, and it sounds like a good amount of work has gone into promoting it (although there hasn't really been so much as a peep about it in Vancouver), but the name "Nationals" implies that you're playing the best players in the country to see who ends up as the national champion, and without feeder events, that's simply not the case.

Come on guys, let's leave the sour grapes out - everyone knows this is just a game for fun and Mael organized an amazing event with an outstanding amount of personal effort in a fan-driven hobby that isn't exactly MMA on HBO, if you know what I mean. I dunno about names but I think it's worth aiming high.
It was awesome to play with so many truly outstanding players from multiple provinces and states and it was so cool to see all the different armies and strategic approaches from such very different metas. You guys all made the gaming experience so much fun. I fought hard in a ton of close games and had an amazing time doing it - Terminus takes no shame in finishing 4th, the ol' Terminator tried to bring as much terror and bloodshed to each game as was (in)humanly possible! Thanks for organizing and running the event Mael!

If you're ever in or around Toronto, let me know, I'm always up for a game.
Just so you know, dismissing the concern that an event billed as "Nationals" doesn't actually behave like a Nationals event as being sour grapes... Well, it doesn't exactly do much to dispel the stereotype that Torontonians think they're the centre of the world and don't care about the rest of the country. I'm not saying that's actually the attitude you hold, just that that's the way it comes off. Actually, that's the way a couple of posters in this thread come off... I'm sure you're all fine people who don't mean to imply that, but that's kind of the way it looks.

I'm willing to run a Qualifier in Windsor Ontario I'm sure we can get many U.S players as the place I would host it is 20 mins. from the U.S/Canadian (Detroit/Windsor) Border.
