    Default Further info on Lael

So I'm coming into the ownership of a Highborn army in the next few days, and I want to tweak it to more of a Inglorius Basterds style themed army, this will primarily be shown in the pirates and their support solos. Unfortunately other then national colors, I know nothing about Lael to help me customize my army. The models I'm looking to modify mostly are Hawk, Doc, Bloody Bradigan, and some press gangers. So to you peoples of the privateer press boards... halp plx?

Llael's heraldry is a crown and some four-pointed stars, if I'm remembering correctly. Not sure on their "official" colors. Their dress is very French-looking-- nicely-dressed, no torn clothes, etc.

A puppet state used as a buffer of sorts by Cygnar. Very french. Snazzy pistoleers and savvy mechanics. I'm sure someone should consult the world guide.

The Llaelese would probably be very upset to be referred to as a puppet state, or a buffer for that matter. Llael just sided with the superpower that believed in the status quo(which very conveniently said Llael gets to be a country) rather then the one that thought they had a right to rule everyone in Immoren.

More on topic: Llael is famous for its duelists, both sword and pistol. It maintained the only other major organization of gunmages, the Order of the Amethyst Rose. Their King was dead prior to the Khadoran invasion, and an internal power struggle killed off most of his progeny. The country's Prime Minister made a deal with the Khadorans, he would remain in charge of Llael when Khador conquered it.

What is this Llael you are speaking of, if my memory of IK history serves me right. There once was a petty state that went by that name. Recently that territory has be divided up by other more rightful leaders.

If you have or can find No Quarter #19, turn to page 78 for a full panel painting of Ashlynn during the fall of Llael. You can see some architecture, details of Ashlynn's armor and her new "official" color scheme, and the flag of Llael.

The emblem of Llael is also on the Highborn Covenant contract card in the Mercenary Faction Deck Mark II.

Just rename your solos after the French Resistance fighters in Top Secret.
Chevalier, Montage, Detente, Avant Garde, Deja Vu, Croissant, Souffle, Escargot, Chocolate Mousse, and Latrine.

There is a nice description and history of the Loyal Order of The Amethyst Rose in NQ # 6. They were among the bravest defenders during the invasion of Llael. They favor black leather vests and long coats for uniforms. Their insignia is the crown of Llael with a rose underneath it.

"They would raze an entire village to find a single man who spoke against them. Someone has to stand against the Grey Lords, lighting their way to Urcaen with a blaze of gunfire."

Bartholomew Winnace, Llaelese gun mage and freedom fighter.

If PP is paying attention to Highborn fans, there will be Llaelese gunmages in the new mercenary rules.

There is also a brief mention of The High Royal Guard, the Llaelese kings own bodyguard. It says there were gunmages in the ranks of the High Royal Guard as well as wizards, pistoliers and swordsmen.

Since the King past away and the Prime Minister siezed power it is not too much of a stretch to assume members of the High Royal Guard would become part of the resistance.

So I would say wizards, pistoliers and swordsmen, probably in purple (amethyst) tones would be the types of troops and solos you are looking for.

If you pay attention to minor details in Escalation and NQ you can also determine that Llael's regular army had a force of riflemen, Pikemen (With Cleft Spears) and at least some troops armed with Guisarmes similar to the one the Vanguard holds.

However, no specific unit information (Size, Armor, Training etc.) has been given for any of Llael's former fighting forces other than the Loyal Order of the Amethyst Rose.

In at least one dispatch, the Highborne Covenant has been reputed to make use of Halberdiers (Both citizen soldiers & hired mercenaries) and small deck guns stolen from ships.

Source? I was under the impression that the technique for making cleft weapons rested with the Circle Orboros, or possibly one of the tribal people closely associated. I remember this from the IK Character guid under the weapons section. It would seem odd if a whole country had them for it's pike armed troops.

Whoop, looks like I was mistaken. It's always a little harsh to find out that you've remembered a detail incorrectly. Pikes & Muskets are mentioned in Escalation, and the Vanguard's Guisarme is said to be based off of military guardsmen in NQ 10. My apologies.

I was actually thinking something along those lines, but I was leading more to the side of Inglorious Basterds for the pirates. Saw that over the holiday and loved it, angry I missed it in theatres.

Thanks for the help guys, when I hit up the warstore for my next order I'll put NQ #6 and 19 in it. Might throw in a box of steelheads while I'm at it.

Funny, I seem to remember a certain group of southerners obsessed with fire kicking the fuzzy hats around in that region. It would make a thrilling song sung by Rhupert, with enough ice and fire that, for once, Cygnar isn't getting assaulted with.

I believe he was refering to the eastern region of Khador where death by natural causes has been expanded to include "bullet to the brainpan", "knife to the ribs", "poisoning" and "horizontal lightning strike".

From my pov, Llael looks more like Italy than France.

Strong merchant princess, relies heavily on trade, mercenary armies. That is my take anyway.
