Default Anyone Ever Konvert Their Leader Models To Make Them Stand Out?

I was talking to Mischa~ And it was explained to me that players identify the "Leader" of a unit by the unique pose they get.

Anyone ever modify the "Leader" or make a guy into a leader by, I dunno, Green Stuffing stripes onto their shirt sleeves, giving their helmet an adornment, or something?

I converted my second doomreaver leader into this:

    for more diversity.

I have a tendancy to pick the 'not leader' model to be my unit leaders (though I number them all to avoid confusion). I tend to make a slightly alternate color (i.e I trim in a different, more pronounced color, like my Bane Thralls have Iron trim on black armor, while the leader uses Gold trim).

I didn't like that the Legionares Leader didn't have a helmet on so I added a spike and some side banners to a normal guy to replace her.

I actually hate all helmetless leader models but that was the easyest to convert. (*hopes for Stormblade resculpt*)

I gave all the unit leaders in my Cryx army back banners to make them stand out, but otherwise no. I just found the MechThrall leader to be too anonymous to do otherwise.

I done black trimming on my AKs, the leader has golden trimming, and that stands out a bit I think... but I plan to mark the leader on its base

Damn, that sword is bigger than he is niek! Haha.

These are some good ideas guys. I'd love to see pics showing what you changed on them ^^

I painted my sword knight leader wearing a different color armor, but for my units i don't try and make the leader stand.I do mod one of the other unit members to make it a second in command. So when my leader dies the second is ready to step in and take control.

I replaced my Sword Knight captain (who had that ridiculously ornate armor) by mounting a standard Sword Knight on a horse (a Storm Lance mount). It reared up nicely on a small base, and looked great with the unit while being easily identifiable as the officer.

Otherwise, I typically subscribe to the philosophy that the officer should blend into the unit lest they become sniper targets. Less a problem in Mark II, but old tactics die hard...

Menoth is easy. You identify the leader by the funny hats.

I had no clue how tough it was to figure it out for the other factions until I
    started painting them. Blech.

The rock of leadership is often useful.

As far as helmets go, I love how the Skorne sergeants get them.

I usually try to put some red in the color of the leader models. It doesn't always happen, but my Mechanithrall and Bile Thrall leaders have red shoulder pads, I did the Bane Thrall leader's shoulderpads and the trim on the Bane Knight leader in Sanguine Base...but lately I've been just focusing more on a particularly notable contrast, like having all my Steelheads painted with Pig Iron and Blighted Gold and the leader substituting Brass Balls for the Blighted Gold. It stands out really well, and to me that's the key - being able to catch my eye when I'm in a hurry to move guys around.

    Thats what I usually do.
Pick a color that is on all the models and make a slight switch.

In MK2 I have been thinking about making a little wire banner, that I can stick into their bases to ID the leader.

Having to field promote multiwound models sucks.

i used a different head on my BKs. Reaper makes a head sprue that has some cool helmets on it. I used one of those for each of my leaders.

I've been doing different things to unit leaders when the unit is lead by an officer. If the Officer (Boomhowler, etc) dies I want a simple way to identify the new leader. Usually they will be the only model holding their weapon a certain way, or more commonly their paint job will be slightly different then everyone else.

I put an insignia on the Sergeants helmet. It's a Rhulic "H".

It's not as neat as it should be, but I doubt I'll have the patience to go back and touch it up. /lazy

I usually point out leaders to folks, and ID them when they ask, but with MK II and that model swapping, I found moving minis to sometimes...cause disagreements as to the location.

So, I got Litko to make a bunch of leader tokens for me and the StL community. Take it away, pictures!

Medium base wreck marker in there for scale.

I like to up build the base that they stand on. Make either a rock covered in snow, or a cliff face.

It helps me stay organized if anything.

I used to paint the shoulderpads another color to denote my leaders, but I found it was hard to see at a distance. In my new scheme, gunmages have brown hats, the leader blue, and the officer a blue hat with yellow fringe. On my Precursors, the leader and officer have gold ornamentation.

Feeple - that is really a great idea Though I might be tempted to see them a bit smaller so they can lay on the base, or like the base rings they use for Blood Bowl.

About the only thing I've done out of the ordinary is for my steelhead substitutes (using Cygnar City Guard), was to use a busted up (and subsequently converted) Sorscha as the leader. Of course, hardly tornament legal on any level :P

On that note, at least in causal games, how many people out there are picky on doing this? I actually dislike having to keep the leader model on the field, always seeing the same guy over and over :P

I'll sometimes use the "secondary field promotion" rule (ie: if there are no grunts on the table, you nominate someone else to take over) with another unique model. On my widowmakers, if the one-eyed kapitan buys it, I'll sometimes "promote" the bare-headed guy (who I always refer to as the XO anyway).
