    Default Epic Asphyxious advice.

So, I've been playing about with a bunch of casters, and I've settled on this guy being my main "castery" caster. Skarre being my combat one, and Morty being the guy when I want some mangled metal goin.

However! I'm not too good at using him yet. Only had two games with him. One we had to call halfway. Both these games were against trolls. In the first game, it seemed to be about even. Last game I played I (once again) underestimated trolls ability to rampage through my lines and get my caster in one turn.

But yeah, I like this caster. I love his mist clouds. However, I do feel my list lacks a certain heavy hitting-ness (this is probably cause people keep going straight for my DJ).

But anyway, the point of this thread, can anyone give me some general eGaspy tips? It'd be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

p.s List is; Egaspy, DJ, Seether, Ripper, 10 B.Knights, Tarty, Bloat.

Is your opponent running beast heavy?
'cause Caustic mist should shut down his troops pretty well with good placement. First strike = win.

Well if you haven't read the info at the battle college, you might check it out:
    http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/mkiieasphyxious

I am painting up a similar list to yours, but swapping out the seether and bloat thrall for a skarlock, nightwretch and the withershadow combine

I've read battlecollege. It's nice, but it doesn't really give any tactics for him, more what everything does.

Yes the clouds are nice, but trolls like to go "4+ tough, RUN THROUGH THE CLOUDS!". In addition to things like me having to play with parasite, hellbound, keeping my DJ alive (or trying, trolls can do insane single target damage), I find I usually don't have enough focus to place enough Caustic Mists to make a noticeable difference (adding an extra 2" onto how far they need to walk). To be honest I find it comes into it's own in separation. Put everything on one flank, rush in, and separate yourself from the other flank with caustic mist, so if their allies want to help, they'll be taking some hefty casualties, or damage.

I think I'm swapping in a skarlock for the bloat, it doesn't do much that's useful.

FederationX, what happened in my last game, was it was going kind of evenly, until Madrak's feat turn, where one troll ran through 6 of my BKs, the next troll ran through the rest and took a chunk out my seether, the third troll killed the seether, then the Axer charged gaspy (his defensive line had just vanished from 2 champions and a fel called) and destroyed him.

It's my own fault for not having hellbound up, but there was no way I was going to win just having gaspy left anyway, against about 10 Fennblades, 5 warriors, a fel caller, and that merc sorceress person.

But I feel that if I'd been able to get more out of my caster, it would have gone better. But hey, that's progress. Also applying my seether earlier would have helped. I think my new rule is it follows my DJ about.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

I would advice getting some more infantry in there, primarily to ease up on your focus strain but also to get more models available for the feat turn. Mechanithralls plus a necrosurgeon are very cheap and cost effective, especially when combined with the new excarnate from eGaspy and the skarlock.

And ya, if you're primarily playing against trolls, the Bloat probably isn't going to help too much, and a skarlock tends to be handy all the time.

If your Banes had already engaged his Champions? If yes, yeah, that pretty much sucks. If not, the Caustic Mist could've stopped him from getting LOS to your Banes. Without a charge, the you should always, always get first strike on him.
Lastly, if eGaspy had his feat still, he might have been able to pull off an assassination. 15" of incorporeal face pounding goodness (after eGaspy's movement) is nothing to sneeze at.

eGaspy is a fantastic caster. He's incredibly hard to kill because of Hellbound, and at high point levels like 50 and above it is not out of the question to invest 3 pts in a Bokur to take ranged shots for him. As far as tips are concerned, these have worked out for me.

    Auto-Includes
    1. Bane Knights and Tartarus. You already have them in your force, which is good. Play aggressively with them, but not reckless to the point where you want them to die merely for the feat turn. On Feat turn, bring back Tartarus first, have him charge, then curse caster/target, and make sure to leave room for the incoming banes.

    2. Atleast one arc-node. eGaspy's biggest downfall compared to his earlier incarnation in prime is the lack of troop augmenting spells. He does not have scything touch, which is a great spell. eGaspy has several good offensive spells though, and to sling these you will want at least 1 arc-node. I like to run them forward when I see a target, arc, then either hide it behind a cloud or inside of a cloud for DEF 17.

    3. Against War Machine, no question take the Withershadow Combine. Dismantle, Stealth, free upkeep (for hellbound), puppet strings...just a great utility unit that will pay dividends if your opponent is playing War Machine and not hordes. You can even bring back these models with the Feat to wreck a jack if you so choose.

Useful models, but not necessarily auto-include:
    1. Soulhunters and Darragh Wraith. Fast Cav, can be brought back on feat turn, charge caster, then get their fast cav 5' move to get out of the way for the Bane's.

    2. Pistol Wraiths. I like to take two of them in his lists. Good unit to flank with and pick off solo's/harass enemy jacks. Bring them back on the feat turn as well since they have gunfighter.

    3. Focus Efficient Jacks. Deathjack and Seether are prime candidates for this role. You included both of them in your army which seems a bit overkill, but if you like to play that way I would invest in a Necro-Tech to keep them up and running if the DJ does not have souls to munch on. Personally, I only ever take 1 of the aforementioned Helljacks with eGaspy.

On the Skarlock, I would never rarely ever take him with eGaspy. Remember he is a Spell Slave, and cannot cast spells that are over 3 focus, range SELF or CTRL. He also cannot boost spells unless he has soul tokens, which he has to be dangerously close to the enemy to do.

eGaspy has 6 spells. 3 of them are range SELF or CTRL. 1 is 4 focus.

That leaves 2 spells. Parasite and Excarnate. I don't feel he is a good investment for 2 points to simply walk up to the enemy and cast parasite or excarnate, and then get blasted off the table.

    Hope this helps.

So is your 35 point list typically something like this then?

    Army Points: 35 Name Cost
    Lich Lord Asphyxious -6
    Nightwretch 4
    Deathjack 12
    Withershadow Combine 5
    Bane Knights full 10
    Bane Lord Tartarus 4
    Pistol Wraith 3
    Pistol Wraith 3

What do you think about a min sized Blackbane's Ghost Raiders unit filling the Pistol Wraith's spots? Do you use Cankerworm with eGaspy much?

Personally I play my Egaspy lists for pure harrassment. So....Bane knights of course with tartarus. Soulhunters taking advantage of lightcav mov and protecting with Casutic Mist...same with cankerworm (1hit wonder especially with parasite floating around).

Typically....I don't field the withershadow and pistol wraiths together ever. I see them both as an alternate to each other depending on the caster. If i am facing hordes...Pistol wraiths...if I know my opponent will be jack heavy...Withershadow...if I have a LOT of upkeeps....withershadow. Eskarre....Pistol Wraiths... its all situational for me, I feel they kind of fill the same roll...just with different sub abilities.

Blackbanes as a replacement for Pistol Wraiths....Yes thank you! In a sense I see them being more resilient. A pistol wraith on average dies in one attack unless you're luckey. Spells at them usually boosted because they are a nuisance. That same attack kills a 1wound trooper too. So the 5 boxes i dont even take into consideration. You get 4 attacks with PW...6 with min unit of Blackbanes. Plus you get to set things on fire...We'll show them dirty menites. And they are spd 7, and when kill a living model you get more pirates....Moar please! Thank you.

I'd take them personally over the PW in that list. You have alot of utility points in that latest list with solo's, another unit of infantry is a good thing to have since you only have 1 jack. my 2cents. I love egaspy.

Oh....and in my experience dont focus on getting souls with daeamortis...if that is the goal of your movment...chances are you're putting yourself in other risks...if the opportunity arises take it...but dont make that a goal.

My typical list looks that way because currently I do not own any BlackBane's. Like Rave stated above though, it would probably be best to drop the PW's in that list and roll with 6 Blackbane's. They are faster than the PW's, set things on fire, and have death toll.

On the Cankerworm, I've used him in the past with eGaspy. The affinity is solid, along with being able to "hit and run", and then hide him behind caustic mist. I'm glad you brought him up since I forgot to add him to my post. He is a pretty solid choice. I'm all about focus efficient heavy jacks however, so I tend to roll with them.

As far as regular gaspy is concerned, I take the Cankerworm in almost every game with him. Scything Touch is just too good to pass up on the relatively weak worm.

I have been playing around with EGaspy over the last few months and have found that focusing on the infantry is a good idea. In my latest list I took the Cankerworm and two Deathrippers, no heavy jacks at all. I found it worked wonders with a full unit of Bane Thralls and a full unit of Satyxis. The Satyxis were hyper aggressive and would engage the enemy on the second turn, I play against Menoth quite a bit and the immune to blast damage from the Sea Witch is wonderful (Still get burnt though - I think ). Parasite + Cankerworm = as hard as most heavies so I didn't feel I was lacking in that department, And with Caustic Mist and Hellbound EGaspy can be realtively safe. The Cankerworms affinity is fantastic as well - For the hit and run effect.

To be honest Im not sure how my list would go against trolls though.... The Satyxis were selected for their speed and reach, so on the feat turn they can get in on the caster as well..... I tried the cav and they work well also.

EGaspy is a great caster, Its just selecting the right troops to go with him.. I personally like to take no heavies, two arc nodes and the cankerworm.... Thats just my two cents

    I love Soulhunters with him.

Large bases can block line of sight to him, and their sheer speed makes them ideal for tie-up duty. You don't need to worry too much about them dying, because you actually want them to die so they can fuel his feat. They have Reach, an absurdly long threat range and Tall in the Saddle, all of which make them very effective feat fodder (not the best in terms of raw damage, but they can go where Banes not have the LoS or raw speed to get to). It's a toss-up whether to take Darragh or not (Incorporeal means they run, engage and tie up better, but it also makes them harder to kill, and you want them dead by the top of turn three or so for the feat turn), but I think the full unit serves him well.

My favorite theorymachine list with egaspy at the moment is pretty comical:

full max number of units of bile thralls
    egaspy

    recurring explosions!

If you're talking about bringing the biles back with his feat, that doesn't work. The feated models must charge, and you cannot make ranged attacks after the charge, and Purge is a ranged attack.

    Current list atm is;

    eGaspy
    Deathjack
    Deathripper
    10 Bane Knights
    6 Bane Thralls
    Tartarus
    Pistol Wraith
    Gerlak

And it's doing awesome! it's a little light on the jacks, but it hits things like a tonne of bricks, and caustic mist can make it hell for enemy infantry to support the rest of the army. I love it

I've just finished my first game with eGaspy on Vassal using this list:

    Lich Lord Ashpyxious
    Deathripper
    Nightwretch
Bane Knights (Leader and 9 Grunts)
    Soulhunters (Leader and 4 Grunts)
    The Withershadow Combine
    Bane Lord Tartarus
    Darragh Wrathe
    Necrotech & 1 Scrap Thrall

    This guy is amazing!
Even if you make some mistakes and get your infantry killed you can clean your mess by some good positioning for feat and Darragh is great help there.

NecroT was added in list as point filler but can serve as screen for Gaspy; inB2B with node which he can fix if it gets damaged.
