    Default Beginner's 15pts

    Hey everyone, I'm back again and still haven't bought any models yet. I can't decide on a 15pt eThags Battlegroup to collect up ready to begin learning. Because I'm learning, I don't want it to be too brutal for my opponent, but I also don't want to be just a pushover. My main enemy, and who'll I'll be learning the rules against is the Cryx Battlegroup (Warwitch Denegra, Slayer, 2 Deathrippers and a Defiler). A few lists I've been thinking of are as follows;

    eThagrosh
    Angelius x2
    15pts

    eThagrosh
    Angelius
    Nephilim Soldier
    Raek
    15pts

    eThagrosh
    Angelius
    Raek x2
    14pts

    eThagrosh
    Typhon
    Raek
    Shredder
    15pts

    Which list would be best suited for balanced learning against the Cryx Battlegroup? What would be a better/more balanced list? Please help, I'm really having trouble deciding...

    Are you dead-set on eThagrosh? He's not the best 15 pt caster, and TBH, it helps learning the game with lower Fury casters, to first learn about your limitations, and not to be swamped with many spells to use.

    Also, a large base is something you need to learn to protect as well.

    He is the most gorgeous model for public retail I have ever seen. The model on it's own strikes inspiration into me. On that basis, he will probably be my first Hordes purchase...so I may as well use him...

    Well, hm, I'd still consider getting the Battlebox, since you'll also gain Lylyth and Carni, and Lylyth is a very capable caster.

    From the above, Typhon, Raek and Shredder might be a bit much for the opponent. Two angelii might be as well, though to be honest, Denny with arc-nodes, Parasite, Crippling Grasp and her feat might tutor you some, especially with being unable to hide eThaggy.

    The second and third lists seem the most interesting. They also give you a bevy of options and different things, not locking you onto just using two models.
    You might also want to own a Harrier, so when eThaggy gets damaged you'll pop one out. Denny has ARM 14 and 16 life, so a boosted damage roll even without MD up that auto-hits her is going to on average do to her 14.5 damage.

    Good luck, though I still think you probably might not want to start with eThaggy, or at least not at 15 points. pThaggy does well in 15 points, and it's thematic to own both. If you get the battle-box, I'd just use Lylyth.

    The problem with starting with a battlebox is that I just don't really like the models in it to be honest, and it's about as shallow as that. I'm not too big on the pThags model either.

    Thanks for the help though, I think I'll go with the third list;

    eThagrosh
    Angelius
    Raek x2

    And get a couple of Harriers as extras.

    Playing without the Carni? Hmmm. I mean, in general?

    I don't like the Carni model. One reason I chose Legion over the Warmachine factions was because I don't like the look of any of the Warjacks, and the Carnivean just looks like a Warbeast version of a Warjack...

    I might purchase one later in my Warmahordes career, but it's nowhere near the top of the models I want to buy.

    hmmm... i was the opposite the carny is what sold it for me... well that and pThags.. careful, sometimes the models look far better when you have them than the PP gallery pictures would lead you to believe...

    at the same time i started with the models i loved to and that is what guided my starting purchases so i say get the models you love!
