    Default My first Carnivean

This thing was fun-ish to paint. I'm not used to so much flesh on my models and I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to or dreading painting the second one. :P

I was going for a better-than-tabletop quality and am quite happy with the result.

edit: also my cell has a surprisingly good camera on it.

That carnivean looks fierce! I love the way the skin and the scales compliment each other.

I rather like the red. I've one of these figures that I've yet to decide on colors for. That guy was a pain for me to put together. I also like how you managed to hide the discs on his feet in your base. I think that on the whole it turned out quite nice with those colors. I like the figure and think he looks like something that should be fighting Godzilla.

The paints used to do the mini are:

    PP PAINTS

    Skorne Red
    Thamar Black
    Menoth White Base
    Menoth White Highlight
    Bastion Grey
    Battlefield Brown
    Red Ink

    CITADEL PAINT

    Adeptus Battlegrey

As to how I did it is pretty straight forward.

Red bone plates: Black base coat with very very minimal dry brushes of 3:1 black red, 2:1, 1:1, and then straight skorne red. All dry brushing was on the most raised edges and spikes. Then 5 coats of red glaze (red ink/water/acrylic medium mixed together. basically a 1:1 ink and water with 2-3 drops of the acrylic medium). It helps to blend the drybrushing and IMHO makes for some more natural shading effects.

Skin: Adeptus Batlegrey base. 1:1 ABG and bastion grey and then a straight bastion grey for final highlight on muscles. a 1:2 menoth white base/bastion grey was done around the raised bits at the claws and along the spine.

Claws: Black base and then work progressively to menoth white highlight in this order:

    black
    1:1 black:battlefield brown
    BFB
    1:1 BFB:MWB
    MWB
    1:1 MWB:MWH
    MWH

Looks good. My only suggestion is perhaps a little more contrast in the Seraph's wings. My carnivean is still sitting around unpainted, so I can't really talk too much . Good stuff though. Those armor plates look awesome.
    I need to fix it!
If you're having Cryx troubles, I feel bad for you, son. I got 99 problems, but a Lich ain't one!
The world is a mess, and I just need to rule it.
