    Default Basing

So I was looking in to getting some of the GF9 basing supplies. I have never done anything with my bases before. Could someone please explain the process of how one applies the grits, flockings, rubbles, etc. to create a nice looking base, or at least direct me to a resource that explains it?
    Thanks!

The guys over at brushthralls have pretty good tutorials. http://blog.brushthralls.com/

You can just generally apply basic white school glue to the base and then dip it in some dirt/sand. The grass and bushes go on last.

ah! that's already a help. see i was thinking you put superglue on the base then sprinkle the stuff on top... so you put elmers on the base then dip the whole base in the stuff then? okay... and the white glue doesnt show/tint the stuff?

That's basing tut at brushthralls is really nice. Just read it a few days ago.

First of all you should decide which overall theme you want to use for your army (or singel model). Forest, dessert, rocky etc. Be sure it fits the painting and background. So Menoth guys on snow bases will look (in most cases) really wierd as Khador on dessert ones.

I didn't recommend go for the all-models-on-big-rocks theme. It looks unnatural at least for me. I get some inspiration through fotos or a walk through the next forest (my trolls will go with forest bases).

Then pick what you think it will fit, more (different) is better at this point. Many materials can achieved through collecting them yourself: roots, stones, sand for example.

One site I can recommend is www.skullcrafts.com as they provide some nice basing kits.

Precisely. When I was a younger lad I used super glue to base and that stuff killed so many brain cells.

Elmers white glue dries clear, won't tint (not that it matters because you're painting over it anyway).

Basically this is how I go about basic basing.

I glue the model to the base, add a good coverage of white glue to the base avoiding the feet, dip it into the sand and take it out, wait 5 mins and shake off the loose sand. I generally grab a wrecked brush and brush off more loose sand. Then the model gets primed like normal.

Like many moles said, keep it coherent for a more pleasing aesthetic effect. Snow and desert basing in the same army just doesn't make sense.

Theres really not much to it, and a good looking base just really comes from observation of natural surroundings.
