Default Cephalyx and their relationship with other Mercs

General question about the lore of Cephalyx. They are part of the Mercenaries army but are vastly different in their style from other casters. Does Thexus join Ossrum for an ale from time to time? Does Cyphon tinker with Magnus' prosthetic arm? How are they contracted when needed?

No contact whatsoever. If Cephalyx need outside resources, they lobotomize them and turn them into talented mind slaves. Basically almost no one knows about the cephalyx and that they even exist.

If this is the case, what is the lore implications of them being 'Mercenaries'? Or did PP just put them here so they didn't need to be their own faction?

The fact they are mercenaries (to the cryx and mostly nobody else) don't mean they actually mingle with the other mercenaries.

They could have been their own factions, but to leave them mercenariable to Cryx, they are mercenaries.

So they have been 'paid' for their services to Cryx in the past by supplying living human subjects for the Cephalyx to turn into Drudges. Thexus as leader of his Hive brokered this deal with Asphyxious to profit his own agenda. FYI Cephalyx don't like Necromancy as they view it as a waste of living resources but the alliance worked for both Asphyxious and Thexus at the time.

So not paid in a convential sense but they are too small in scope to be their own faction outright and don't fit under another faction umbrella either. So I think Mercs was the best fit for them.

Also worth noting whilst they use the FOCUS mechanic thats entirely a game thing in the fluff they have MIND POWERS not traditional magic.

I'd categorize the relationship as "uneasy." On the mercenaries' end, anyway.

Mercenaries and Minions are something of umbrella factions that contain significant mini-factions along with unaffiliated mercs and minions. Merc mini-factions include the Cephalyx, Rhul, the Llaelese Resistance, and, in late MK1, King Vinter loyalists under Magnus. Minions, of course, have Gatormen and Farrow. Each of these mini-factions have particular loyalties which are often at odds if not directly opposed to one another.
