This thread aims to compile the wisdom of the minion forums in order to help out new players in the fold and to improve minion game over all. If you have something to add, a strategy guide, battle reports etc just write in the thread or send me a PM and I’ll add it to the guide. It'll be a perpetual work in progress, and hopefully stickied.
What's the state of Minions?
With a stable of good warlocks and beasts and being able to bring the lesser warlocks as in-faction choices Minions aren't the worst faction to play. However the bad defensive stats of the minion infantry leaves the faction susceptible to all the infantry hate that's bandied about by the other factions.
Basically list building for minions mostly boils down to taking Rask and a pairing. Rask does armor cracking well thanks to Wrastlers having the Rage animus and Rask having Fury and he is the only warlock of the faction that can protect your army going up the field thanks to his feat which is pretty important in these heavy shooting meta times. The feat means he'd be best at bringing infantry, if it wasn't for the fact that the lesser warlocks are so stellar you bring them instead of infantry.
So playing Minions will mean a never-ending quest to find a Rask pairing. So far the Farrow theme has dropped to a rather lukewarm reception and people are hesitantly optimistic about the gator theme spoilers. But the main reason for playing Minions is that they have the best looking models of all of PP:s range. It's true, go check the gallery: http://privateerpress.com/hordes/gallery/minions
The Thornfall Alliance
The farrow of Immoren were united under Lord Carver when their chiefs sealed an alliance in blood oaths at an old battlegorund called Thornfall. Backed up by Dr. Arkadius and his surgically enhanced warbeasts the Thornfall Alliance is set for conquest.
Warlocks: Any Farrow Warlocks, Dr Arkadius, Midas.
Beasts: Any non-character Farrow warbeasts (Midas can have his Boneswarms)
Models/units Any Farrow, any Efaarit.
Additional solos: Alten Ashley, Gudrun the Wanderer, Hutchuck - Ogrun Bounty Hunter, Raluk Moorclaw - the Ironmonger, Saxon Orrick, Swamp Gobber Chef solos, Viktor Pendrake, Rorsch & Brine.
* This army can include one non-character Mercenary warjack beginning the game controlled by Raluk Moorclaw, the Ironmonger.
* For every full 20 points of Farrow units or battle engines in this army, you can add one weapon crew unit, command attachment, or non-character solo to the army free of cost. Free units do not count toward the total number of Farrow units in the army when calculating this bonus.
* Farrow warbeast models gain Retaliatory Strike. (If a model with Retaliatory Strike is hit by an enemy melee attack during your opponent’s turn, after that attack is resolved it can immediately make one basic melee attack against the attacking model. A model with Retaliatory Strike can make only one Retaliatory Strike per turn.)
* Up to one Farrow Commando unit in this army gains Ambush. (You can choose not to deploy a unit with Ambush at the start of the game. If it is not deployed normally, you can put it into play at the end of any of your Control Phases after your first turn. When you do, choose any table edge except the back of your opponent’s deployment zone. Place the unit with Ambush completely within 3” of the chosen table edge.)
