    Default warmahordes slang

    Weird question here. What slang exists amongst WM or Hordes players with regard to the game? What weird names do you have for casters and units, and stuff like that? I'd love to get some kind of a list up...

    Here is a brief list of some of the ones i know about:

    Asphyxious is gaspy
    Harbinger is Harby
    Haley is Pole Dancer (nickname is longer than the actual name...)
    Mechanithralls are McThralls.
    Cygnar Storm- units are Stormnouns (blades, knights, lances, callers)
    Juggernaut is a Juggy
    Doom Reavers are Doomies

    any others?

    Mostly just shortening names to more diminutive forms.

    Thags = Thagrosh
    Morvi = Morvahna
    pMac & eMac = Makeda
    Preeks = Precursor Knights

    I read this one on the boards here - Fats Dominar, aka Rasheth.

    I usually drop the "Wold" part of a lot of Circle constructs. Sometimes same with the "Sstone" on the UAs/leaders for the units like that.

    I have a habit, I think inheritted from someone who played Dwarf Fortress a lot, of calling the dwarves "dorfs". I also call Lug the b'ar now and again. Their little warjacks are called "teakettles" and "gunbunnies" a lot too.

    Rahn = Bastard.

    I've called the Argus a barkdog now and again.

    Laris = Barknode

    Totem Hunter = Predator/Predalien

    Gobbers of Various Stripes = Gobbos for some people for some reason.

    Vladamir = Vlad is a pretty damned common one.

    Mortenebra = Morty

    Severius = Sevvy

    Wold Guardian = Rambot, Stampy, Stompy

    Borka = The Drunktank (Local one)

    ATGM UA = The Dude

    And stuff.

    Because the card for A&H was horribly typoed. The stats were nonexistant, the rules were for Croe's Cutthroats, and the title on the card was Master Holt and the Ugly Ampersand.

    I try to avoid overly convoluted nicks for models. McThralls and Jr I'll use. Won't say Abel. Just recently, someone was talking about his list with "Stegodon," "Lanterns," and some other wacky names. I couldn't figure out what he was talking about and just skipped whatever he couldn't seem to figure out how to say in non1337sp33k.

    If you have even a passing familiarity with the Skorne models, "Stegodon" and "Lanterns" are pretty obvious ones. Stegodon is obviously a Rhinodon which, let's face it, looks a lot more like a stegosaurus than a rhinoceros. Lanterns is obviously Void Seer Mordikaar who has multiple lanterns hanging off of him.

    A lot of models have good nick names, we have some nick names for actual game terms.
    Like-
    "How b****ed up is he?": this refers to warjack's systems being crippled or just general damage on a warjack.
    "I'll b**** him up": used when attacking a 'jack.
    "I'll crush your dude.": Refers to an attack that will probably kill the model it's htting/damaging- not used on 'jacks in non- 'jack on 'jack fights.
    Trip = Knockdown (only certain people still say this)
    Stand and fire/shoot = get aiming bonus and shoot your guys

    Can't think of anymore right now but I know there are a few others. Any of you guys have these? Our play group has a lot of players that play multiple games, so lingo transfers a lot from game to game but keeps or slightly alters its meaning.

    A lot of the same as mentioned here.

    Arc nodes are alternately bonechickens, boneturkeys, chickens and turkeys.

    The Argus is a Puppy.

    Dragons are dargons. (Left over from my WoW days)

    Similar to others, I tend to drop the Wold from my constructs. The Warden, the Watcher, the Wyrd.

    I use Gaspy and Denny a lot. Though I do seem to interchange their real names often enough.

    Broke 13th is a favourite of mine.

    For the most part though, I just drop parts of their names because the excessive titles are annoying when saying them often so it becomes just Tartarus, Surgeon, Knights, Wrathe, etc. Most are pretty self-explanatory.

    Though Skarre is quite often referred to by me as "My lady" or "My special lady". I have a noted fondness for the Pirate Queen in both her forms around here.

    For love. For honor. For Devilsquid.

    I'm the only person I know who uses this nickname, but: Jerry the Krayefish = Jeremiah Kraye.

    There are a lot of commonly used nicknames out there, though.

    Personally, I always find myself calling Irusk Rommel, as a shout out to Patton.

    "Irusk... you magnificent bastard, *I read your book*!" Replace Irusk with Rommel and that sentence would still make sense.

    Three problems with this statement:
    1) you're assuming too much familiarity with a particular faction. I don't have that great a familiarity with Skorne since I don't care for them and no one in my meta plays them. I don't hit their forum. Further, I don't especially identify Mordikaar with lanterns. "Skorne High Reclaimer," yes; lanterns, no. It is almost like identifying the Butcher as "Blunderbuss." He has one, and notably, he's the only one who does. It's not an immediately identifying feature.

    2) The poster failed to make any connection to Skorne in his post. Ok, I could get your point if he did, or if it was in Skorne Tactics. When it's a post in Gen Dis that begins "Ok, so I'm playing lanterns,..." I have issues with that.

    3) Perhaps most salient, I'm not new. I'm not someone who shows up every 6months. And I'm not particularly averse to using nicknames: I was one of the first to pick up on "McThralls." It's cute, it's catchy, but most important, it's intuitive, just like Jr. They are, if anything, shorthand for the actual name (try reading the abbreviation "JWC" as anything but Junior Warcaster. It's fairly difficult for me). "Lanterns" is a non-intuitive wholesale replacement of the name that, absent significant context, is all but indecipherable: it's based on graphical cues but is communicated in a text-based medium.

    Ok, I ranted. It happens when you get old.

    TLDR version: I've been here a while. If I'm skipping posts for indecipherable "cutesy" nicknames, what hope does a newbie, especially one with lurker inclinations, have?

    Wow, you successfully managed to write down all three of my least favourite nicknames from these forums! I've almost conditioned my gaming group to never refer to Battle Mages and Magisters as Mittens (shudder) by starting a timer on my watch when they do, and not talking to them for a full minute - cumulative - for every time they say it. I will do this in game, and I will continue to move models, talk to people watching or other players, roll dice, and simply remove models as they die.

    This is especially fun if they decide to talk while I'm GMing. Hasn't come up yet, but it might now we have an Iosan Arcane Mechanik...

    The thing with most nicknames (and look over some of these. What the hell?) is that they're SO impenetrable to new players. As an example, there is no reason for the Gunmage Captain Adept to be called Abel, and it's only the most ridiculously convoluted logic that gets you there. Hell, while talking in the list building forum, it's hard for me not to skip initialled names - EBDT does not, immediately, say "Earthborn Dire Troll" to me, and why is it "JWC" and not the more obvious "JMWC"? Are we collectively so lazy we can't just write down what things are damn well called?

    Face it Chip, as soon as people "go on the internet" they lose all ability to communicate in a clear way, at least if it involves any kind of extra work such as writing full words.
    My own personal hate word is GZ, short for Grats, which is short for Congrats which again is short for Congratulations.
    How the heck did a good word like Congratulations end up as GZ, you can't even pronounce that.
    Ofcourse GZ mostly rears it's ugly head in online games such as WoW and not actually on these boards.

    No, this is completely wrong. I can only assume that you've never seen the models for a Rhinodon or Mordikaar, because if you had you would have understood why I specifically said "If you have even a passing familiarity the the Skorne models" instead of with the faction. It doesn't take knowing anything at all about the faction to know what models are meant when the nicknames "Stegodon" and "Lanterns" are used - all it takes is having seen those models. The Rhinodon's main visual feature is that it looks like a stegosaurus, and Mordikaar's main visual feature is that he's got a bunch of big lanterns hanging off of him. If you're not familiar with the faction fluff or rules you may not really know anything about those models, but you'll still know what models he's talking about. To be honest, I think those 2 nicknames are far more intuitive than the 2 that you've held up as examples of intuitive nicknames.

    Let me add to your frustration, there, Chip. Rhan: Kitten Mittens. Or, if you're nasty: Oven Fresh Kitten Mittens. And his Kitten Mitten Brigade.
    And +1 to Tartar Sauce.

    Other local variants
    Darius: Toilet Suit
    Mordikaar: Lanterns
    Witch Coven: Egg-ho's

    And my beloved trolls...
    Long Riders: Tuffalo
    Fell Caller: Troll Army Attachment
    Grim Angus: Mad Cow, or Ground Beef
    eMadrak: Burrower UA
    and, of course, Calandra: That stupid, befuddling, star-crossed gypsy ****.

    Others for me locally:

    Toughalos is something I say a lot.

    I call the myrmidons iJacks now and again (blame the studio paint scheme on that.)

    Phoenixes and Chimeras I refer to as, "Turbinejacks".

    Titans = Elephants.

    Satyrs = Goats

    Woldwyrd or Woldstalkers = Woldshrimp

    @Chip - I kinda would want to push that button. Seeing as at that point, it feels more like one taking what something is called too seriously, especially since its a simpler word (less sylables) and it by nature being a game people play to have fun, not something to be so hung-up over a nickname. Just me on that. I also would at least demand you declare your attacks and targets if you were to be so pissy about it. Just saying. <_<

    And stuff.

    "Troll Moses" is pretty obvious in my neck of the woods.

    Eiryss = "one of the five witches everyone wants to play as, but never against." See also: Sorsha, Haley, Aiyana, & Alexia. (Although not quite as much hate generated in MkII).

    My daughter's favorite list includes four of them, and she plays them very well. Grrrrrr to play against, grrrrreat to watch others try to deal with them.

    I also call my eKaya's battle group her "fuzzies."

    I like "Frogaphant" for the Skorne Titans. I picked that one up off of somebody's sig here in the forums, about the Skorne Agonizer, paraphrased "Aww, look, they hurted the baby frogaphant!" Based that they look elephantish but without trunks. May be my favorite and I don't even play Skorne.

    Khador:

    The Russians/Soviets: Khador
    Big-B: Behemoth
    The Puppy: Wardog
    Bad Santa: Koldun Lord
    The Ice Cream Cone: Zerkova's wand-thing: Rod of whispers
    Mrs. Claus: Zerkova.
    Gramma: The Old Witch (Also The Old *itch)
    Scrappy or Scrappy-Doo: Scrapjack
    Cue-ball: Marauder
    Da Bearsss: Great Bears of Gallowswood
    Joe: Kovnik Jozef Grigorovich

    Playing legion of everblight, the Spawning vessel is colloquially known as "The Pot".

    Gun Bunnies = searforge lights. Or gun bunny/spray bunny to differentiate them.

    I also like "The Menoth Cheese Wedge" referring to the menoth strategy of hugging jacks side by side and huddling together for buffs to remain immune to nearly everything as they approach.

    Also, calling Menoth itself "The Church".

    The harbinger aka harby, is rarely but memorably 'the floating chick'.

    On the Avatar, Menoth's Gaze, or "The Gaze" is sometimes pronounced without the Z, and made occasional references to the model's choice of sexuality, which occasionally bleeds over into off-color jokes paralleling the warcasters of the church of menoth with some of the less reputable headlines regarding clergy of the catholic church in recent years.

    And I'll let that be the reference with the poorest taste for the time being. Assume they go downhill from there.

    Is it just me, or have people missed off one of the most commonly used ones?

    Orsus Zoktavir - Butcher

    I've never heard anyone call The Butcher by his actual name before. Being a bit of a newb, this confused me greatly when I was reading through Prime to find some guy called Orsus that had never been mentioned on these forums. I was like "Who the hell is Orsus Zoktavir?!" It took me a while to notice "The Butcher of Khador" at the end and put 2 and 2 together
