    Lightbulb Battle Timer [android app]

    Hello community!

This is a FREE Android application to help players keep track of turn length and turn counts. Basically a glorified kitchen timer we all use but with more features and prettier pictures.

I would greatly appreciate any testing/input I can get, so I can make the app better. So far, many of the features of Battle Timer are community suggestions.

More information on the app can be found here: http://www.tikiitorch.com/battle-timer/

    Current Version: 2.4

    Features:
    • Allows for both players to enter their names and factions
    • Each turn timer can be paused and restarted
    • Keeps track of what turn each player is on
    • Allows for a silent or configurable audio alarm

    Change Log:
    2.4
    • New quick access "Turn Extension" button

    2.2
    • New Icons!

    2.1.4
    • Minor bug fixes

    2.1.2
    • Bug Fix
    [/list]
    Full change log here

    Screenshots:

You can get the app by searching for "Battle Timer" in the android market, or just scanning this code:

Can't wait to hear what you have to say!

P.S. If I am missing any legal stuff let me know ;-)

Hi there, it looks like a good app.. However, I searched the market as well as scanned your code and nothing came up so I have yet to download it.

I have it. Pretty neat program. I would like to see a feature that makes it like a chess timer and you press whose turn it is and when you switch to the other player it auto resets timer.

Not sure why you aren't seeing it Munder. Mind sharing some info about your device? Like what handset, and what Android version you have?

I'm glad you are enjoying it, I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean on your suggestion.

The timer should be resetting when you switch to the next player.

If you mean that tapping the faction icon or the player name ends the turn, I agree that does sound like a great idea. I will add it it now =)

A new version is now available on the Android Market!

Some bugs were fixed, and Duckboy's suggestion was implemented.

    Great job, looks good.

Chess timer idea is like a dumb down version of what you got. You have the faction/name side by side and have the timer at the top of the screen. So tap which player goes then. Tap again to stop then tap again to start again but doesn't keep track of rounds. Only certain scenarios require keeping track of rounds (some custom scenarios) so not really important to have it.

You have a good product now, I will be using it often. Thanks

Works pretty well Tiki, might I recommend having some sort of alarm at the end of the time. Sometimes we were pretty involved in a turn when the timer expired. An option for a time extension would also be useful. Otherwise it works really well. I'll post more if we bump into anything else that could be helpful.

There is an alarm setting in the app, it is disabled by default, but going into setings (Menu > Set-Up) will allow you to turn it on and pick which alarm you would like to use.

The next version in the works will allow for free play ( unlimited turns ), and I will see about allowing for a time extension as well.

    New version has been published!

Free Play mode allows for unlimited turns (just uses the turn timer and counts how many turns have passed).

You can extend a turn at any time (Press menu > "extend turn" and select the amount to extend).

Code has been optimized to make the app more efficient.

Some visual tweaks have been put in place.

OK, I think I may have it marked for Android 2.0+ I don't think I am using any APIs that require that version.

I will look tomorrow, and if possible update the market version with a 1.5+ compatible version

    I have this app.

here are some thoughts that would increase my odds of using it a lot.

Option 1.. have a feature that can remove the Required # of rounds. I just set it really high, because I never play games with Limits.
Option 2.. have a secondary timer that be used for "extension" turns. If usually only care about timing tournament games, and I need to be able to easily adjust the extension based on size of the game.

Option 3.. In practice games I like to keep an overall timer going as I like to keep all games I play within SR time limits. I find sometmies "casual" games can go 2x longer then tournament games, and while that is sometimes ok, I find when games go too long I just go a bit crazy.

So could a another time be added to track overall time. This one could be smaller and just keep running while the other ones can be paused.

    just some random thoughts

Aha! I hadn't seen the alarm option Tiki. I'll give it another run tonight. Thanks for your work!

Edit: I am unable to find the update on the Android market. Has it been approved yet?

This option is already in the newest version, but it appears the upgrade didn't show for everyone. I uploaded another upgrade today, that should be visible to all android users.

This feature is also in the new version, test what I have done (if you can get the new version) and tell me if this works for you.

I like this idea ALOT, maybe a smaller timer that counts up, and displays the total game time so far. I will work on that ASAP. Thank you.

Yes, but not sure why the upgrade didn't show up for everyone. I upped the version code, and uploaded a new version (same guts, just trying to get the upgrade to work for everyone) Please tell me if you can get this one.

The version everyone should see on the android market should be 0.5(beta) if you see other then that, please let me know

I am not an iOS developer, and honestly have no desire to be one . If there is one who would like to extend this project, I will be happy to help.

ok. I have it. Instead of clicking menu, then extend. would it be possible to have a button on the screen enable the same option? It isnt a big deal, but it would be neat

Installed. Not a bad little app, and seems to work fine on the G1, TikiiTorch.

Just an update: Battle Timer is still in development, just been a little busy (started my 2nd Army, Khador) and between painting and gluing haven't been adding anything new to the app.

Lots of good features in planning though.

    Great App.

I pulled it out last night and two Iphone users looked like stole Christmas. I wish I had a picture.

    Sorry about that!

I think I figured out the problem. I have uploaded a new version to the android market. This new version should fix that issue.

The App was trying to play an alarm at the end of the turn even though you never told it what alarm to play.

If you anyone still has an issue after the upgrade, you have to reset the settings: you can do this by disabling and re-enabling the alarm, and then selecting an alarm sound.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the app, running a tourney this week and will get a chance to put it through the ropes for some of our players. We have a handful of droid users that will be trying it out and my phone will be in use for any games without it. Replacing the stopwatches where we can would be nice.

Your app is the end of a long journey for me. You have created what I sought. Your ranks of petitioners look deep, but I see you are still recent and not yet burned out. Let me throw some wood on the fire then. Is it possible you could add the ability for more than two players in a game?

could I make 2 small suggestions?

    -Swappable wallpaper.
-turn extension button. It'll need to keep track of the turn extension being used and no display itself on the turns after.

*Bug* so I put unlimited turns and time length on 12 min. Put two names in and factions. I clicked begin on a persons name then whwent to settings and backed out, it switched the players of whose turn it was. Then I went back to settings and clicked back button and it swapped back.

Using it for a while now. Me and my friend both play chess, so we are actually used to playing with time constraints. Imho it makes the game flow better.

One thing I'd like to add is a BIG button for time extension, and options for it (amount of times to use, amount of time it adds etc). This way you can just press the button instead of fiddling through a menu. Just makes it a bit smoother. ATM it takes 3 button presses to get it.

    For the rest: great job.

Oh and maybe standard rules for certain steamroller formats eg 15 points, 35 points, 50 points with the standard steamroller times and extensions. Adding a random timer that calls dice down might be icing on the cake

I hope I'm not overwhelming you, but those were my thoughts when I use it

I used it yesterday to great effect. Its a lot faster then using the timers they have at the store or my cellular phone's default one I think. Very fast and simple and easy to keep an eye on. I approve greatly.

    And stuff.
