Looks like Brutus is good to go, sir! I like him a lot now! Interesting Affinity now, too. It doesnt look super imposing, but with smart play, it could make Brutus impossible to ignore.
About the last thing I'd recommend looking over is the wording of his Animus, as it should probably be worded more like the offensive spell effect it is. I'd also raise its cost to 2 and replace mention of "Brutus" with "this model" so that the warlock can cast it too. After all, it would be a great option for La Grande to have as well. Other locks like Loopy Pennyworth would have the option of casting it, though i'm not sure she would want too, at least based on what I envison.
@Jaren SUPER SIMULTANEOUS POST POWERS ACTIVATE! I'm so glad we managed to find such an active and creative group to keep this thread going. How'd you manage to link it in your signiature? I'd also like to, since I feel like this thread is my adopted baby, too!

Done the changes you wanted, I think they are now quite evil together.
I just typed in the "You home for...." part, highlight it all and click the "Inser Hyperlink" button (looks like the Earth with an Infinity sign under it) and cut / paste the address into the dialog box.
EDIT: When I get the Harlequin unit finalised and posted, I'm going to re-post Jaren Cross and edit the firt post into an index with fancy dancy links to all the models / units.

Man, there is a lot to reply to. The last big post I had, I broke the allowed buffer of quotes and emoticons. I sincerely hope that I don't upset anyone, but I'm thinking the "vision" may be a bit more convoluted. Or maybe because I already had some ideas, and just haven't written them down. However, before I do that, I want to post what I do like.
I adore the idea of the Rusalka - Old Witch rivalry. I named the Ringmaster as a fusion of "Stella" and "Iele". Stella, of course, is a "star", and "iele" is the Romanian rusalka spirit. The iele is a spurned lover and a virgin, so I thought of a rejected princess of yore. I consider the Umbreans the Transylvanian analogs in the IK, so I dug through the Romanian fey legends for that. Anyway, enter Stelleyla, who, as BotV suggested, may have hooked up with a warrior bloodline (a retired horse lord by the name of Wernitov), formed a pact. They fight, she takes care of deformed children, adopting them into a larger family, the act of which passes on a bit of the Grymkin "madness". More on that, later.
Fey legends are quite varied. As such, the sideshow families boast a variety of characters, from quixotic former paladins turned stunt riders (who jokingly refer to themselves as something like "Knights of the Garden Fence", although that's not their true name). Then you have the horrors, like Gristle and Flay.
As far as undead go, I'm pretty much against that. I want the "fey" theme to be so prevalent that it's beginning to get difficult for the circus to hide it behind a veil of secrecy. So, I'm very much against all the introduction of Genzouls and Eldritches and the like. Why step on Cryx and Skorne's toes? I would rather Artiskerez be just a normal, spurned Skorne who somehow contracted the fey madness. Maybe his eyes were opened with the attempt at capturing a Chimera-spawn, and it was only a matter of time before his insanity brought him to the Wernitov circus. Destiny!
However, that is not to say there isn't a place for some kind of "undead" creature. When I was looking at the "Lonely Souls Band", it struck me as some fey-addled group of musicians who came into contact with Sluagh, the spirits of the restless dead brought into the fey world. Their powers of "gathering souls" may be another part of the circus. The biggest difficulty I have is having redundant game mechanics. What makes the Sideshow unique? What's their "shtick"?
Here's a passing thought...
One half is the adoption and protection of people into the bigger "family". The other half is quieting the souls of the Sluagh. With all these escalating wars about Immoren, there's more and more of a chance that innocent souls unclaimed by the gods or Toruk will be between worlds. The weeping of these souls is heard throughout the circus families, and this agitates the hell out of them.
For the most part, the Menagerie has just "ignored" it. But now family members are being caught in the crossfire. That now has everyone on edge, ready to lash out...
But then the Old Witch showed her ugly face again...
And so Stelleyla called upon the sideshow families to bring back the "Old Code".
Ten lives for one...
We will take ten of your lives for every one of ours you take. We will break your toys and dance in your nightmares...
The Curtain has been pulled, and the Great and Horrible Show has begun.
The circus folk are fickle and will change alliances quicker than the wind changes direction. If Khador took one or more of theirs, the circus will work for Cygnar. Cryx trying to harvest the sluagh? The circus will work for whoever's fighting them at the time...

Before I go any further, I just wanted to say that this is turning out to be damned amazing. The ideas given by everyone have been fantastic.
I thought of a warlock that can come later, if we make a fantasy expansion. Since we're dragging out old world fairy tales and establishing conflicts, I thought of another large-based Warlock that could join the fray.
I'm stealing this from Finland, slapping it around, and twisting it to the Immorese way.
A satyr from the furthest reaches to the north. A giant, ancient goat-man who once haunted Kossite Legends as a brutal enforcer of the "Old Code". Kossite parents would scare their kids with the gory tales of this beast. It wasn't until Morrow came along that this legend's demeanor "softened" a bit. No, the satyr didn't change. The legend of the satyr changed. The legend mutated over time to a more benevolent, human-like creature that would reward children for good behavior, with sweet foods and trinkets, rather than crush their skulls and devour their bones for bad behavior.
With both the Old Witch stirring, and the dragon Everblight spreading blight, the ancient, horrible beast has begun his trek southwards, called by Stelleyla to help bring back "The Old Code"...
Yes, I'm talking about the proto-Santa Claus, who was a nasty old goat man. Later, he got split with the Santa Claus tradition and the Krampus evolved later. Today, it's just Santa Claus, the Krampus only remembered in villages through central and eastern Europe...
And great... now I want to buy the Witches of Garlghast, and turn them into the Italian "strega" witches. The three witches that flew around on Christmas time...
Oh, and about the Orcs? Aren't Orcs originally Tuscan in origin? They were the servants of a god of death from there. Orcus... Maybe these are otherworldly enforcers called upon to help "corral" the many sluagh appearing.
I believe PP said they wanted to avoid things like Orcs as much as possible. They just don't belong in the Iron Kingdoms. So, to respect their creation, I say we avoid them. Besides, when you have a bunch of tribal, violent brutes that are good at reverse-engineering, you get the pOrks. Or, Farrow. Granted, they're not as numerous as the fantasy orcs. But they seem to have that general mindset.

Ten lives for one...Not a Warlock perhaps, maybe an attachment that is summoned by the death of its attachment somewhat like Destruction Spawned, a melee beatstick with Circular Vision, Reach, Blood Burst and Thresher, just wipe out everything within a 2" radius! Hideously cheap and hideously broken. Even if they don't get a charge bonus, having weapon master, especially on guns? On a pair of guns? Not even Holt has that ability. Nor do the Pistol Wraiths. Kara Sloan only has one weapon that allows that. And she has to spend focus if she wants to get more attacks out of it. And really. Forfeiting a move action on cavalry is a horrible thing to do, even with the "Trick Shot" ability. They should have a melee weapon. No cavalry in Warmachine or Hordes lacks a melee weapon.
Look, I was working on these guys. I was asking for what angle to approach it from. I don't mean to be a jerk, honestly, but sheesh. Let me work on them, okay? You've contributed significantly already with some good ideas. I know I should have called dibs, and I didn't. I'm sorry.

@ simon sez:
I like the cutpurses, however I think they're underpriced and their MAT is 1 point too high, given Gang.
@ redscores:
With all due respect to Feverdream, I actually think these guys are salvagable:
-Since there's no special reason for them, I'd nix the Revolvers and just give them Pistols / Heavy Pistols. Handcannons are a no-go.
-Nix Weaponmaster if you keep Crit. Headshot OR vice-versa.
-Make them LIGHT cavalry and nix Acrobatics and Parry.
-Trick shot should give them Snipe, and ONLY Snipe, since they can't move. Ignoring Stealth et. al. is a Gunmage thing.

Re-Post of Warcaster Jaren Cross so I can re-purpose the first post into a Table of Contents:
Jaren Cross, Mercenary Warcaster
"Why do I follow him? Because I remember the first time I met him: One of the boys had raised a glass to King Leto. The Commander stood up, cuffed the poor lad and said 'A man who turns on his King deserves no loyalty from us'. That was the day my heart left Cygnar." - Anonymous Trencher Loyalist
Not all Warcasters are born of conflict or discovered by accident. Jaren is an example of this as his inate magical prowess and affinity for controlling 'jacks were discovered at a young age. Given into the care of the Cygnaran Military by his parents, he rose steadily through the ranks and, while not the head of his class, he was certainly well on his way to a career in armies of King Vinter Raelthorne IV. After graduating he was informed that he was to hone his warcasting skills under the wing of Asheth Magnus. Thrilled to be assigned to such a well known Commander, Jaren took to his studies with a fervor and the ruthlessness of his mentor's lessons made him the man he is today.
With the fall of his King, Jaren accepted a pardon from now King Leto Raelthorne and was assigned to an outpost on the Khadoran border, not far from his old mentor. Having trained under the man since his youth, Jaren was appaled at the treatment of his former teacher, first by the upstart Coleman Stryker, then by the High Command. When he heard of the events leading to Magnus' exile, Jaren personally petitioned King Leto to pardon his old master. King Leto not only refused, but took the opportunity to chastise him for his recklessness in personally leading large patrols, often into Khadoran territory, leaving his outpost with a skeleton crew. Enraged, upon returning to his command he deserted with his 'jacks and a handfull of men more loyal to him than to the Crown.
After many years of making his way as a blade for hire, Jaren hears word of Magnus' association with the Skorne, as well as rumours of the return of his King. Fueling his old Ironclad and gathering together what like-minded men he can find, Jaren prepares for the long journey to the Skorne lands to join with his old friend and teacher.

If you can have two or more warlocks in your army, this model and warjacks in its battlegroup can take the place of a Skorne warlock. This model counts toward the maximum number of warlocks allowed in an army and counts as a warlock for FA.
Up to 1 Cygnar Ironclad warjack may be included in Jaren's battlegroup. This 'jack has been in Jaren's care from his time in the Cygnar Army, and may begin the game bonded to him. It is considered a friendly mercenary warjack. If Jaren is destroyed or removed from play, this Ironclad becomes inert and may not be reactivated or marshalled.

Having studied for years under Asheth Magnus, Jaren has learned that ruthlessness and the decisive use of overwhelming force wins battles. As a result Jaren is able to motivate his 'jacks to great feats of violence. While he finds the old corteces of his rebuilt 'jacks far more draining than the Ironclads on which he cut his warcasting teeth, the damage wrought upon the enemy is nothing short of impressive.

What about keeping a "Distinct Eastern Europe Circus" feeling for the Wernitov Sideshow (so it will all be made of Freaks, Stage Performers and Grymkin-Related, along with the Skorne Oddball) and create/repurpose the Idea discussed before of the "Dark Carnival" with Hidden Infernals and Necromancer Thamarites Cultists of Scion Delesle...??
In this manner we could also put the "Mummy Elf" Warcaster of Lost Lyoss and other "Movie Monsters" and various kind of Troops that does not fit nicely in the "Pure Bloodline" of the Wernitovs, using this other "Evil Twin Sideshow" as the proverbial Nemesis of the main Character...
So it could be safely created and written down any kind of Piece of Stuff; if it is O.K. with the Wernitov Concept it will become a "Part of the Family" and if not it will go towards the "Kitchen Sink" of the "Bad Circus"...
I'm not very clear now about the Relation between the Warcaster Ysmen and the Wernitov Clan, and if the Moustached British Trollkin tamer of Bridge Trolls and the Kossite "Bear Trainer" of Orboros are still in the Group with the Chimera-Struck Skorne Paingiver.....
@Jaren
I appreciate you being more diplomatic than me. Are you still sure you want me writing your fluff?
I'm not here to chase anyone away. Even with my limited knowledge of "balancing", I could see how the original cavalry concept would be the only thing people would want to field in this army.
When all is said and done, we should examine what the Warlocks can do, when they are fully fleshed-out, and how they synergize with the units/solos. As was shown earlier in the example of the Freebooter charging 22"... some things may end up more ridiculous than we imagined. Now this puts more pressure on me to make the Warlocks... I should have Loopy up by the end of the day. Hopefully Zane, too.
Also, doesn't "high in the saddle", an inherent rule to all cavalry, kind of make Acrobatics pointless? They can see over other models and attack them, too. I don't have the rules with me at the moment, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Ahh, there's the freaky terror unit I was looking for! Awesome!
And there's the Jaren Cross we've come to know and love.
@BotV
Another thing that Privateer Press is insisting on is that the Infernal stay way out of the mins game. This conversation has come up several times when people were asking about new Mercenary contracts in the Mercenary Community Forums. The Infernal are supposed to be the strangest and most unknowable lot out there. Sure, you have Thamarite Infernalists, but they still don't drag Infernals to earth. I think one PP staff mentioned that they are kind of their "hallowed ground" that should never be tread.
And I'm still iffy on the undead, as I said. But what about this? Freaks aren't the only persecuted bunch in the world. There's another large group that is. If they don't sign up for the military and become a gun mage or war bard, their lot in life is terrible. Yes, sorcerers, those born with the ability to cast magic are marked by Thamar, and the "normal" person absolutely fear them.
What about those who don't want to join the military? These "draft dodgers" may run away to avoid the angry mobs. Maybe they find a place at the circus. Who's to say that the "Lyossian Mummy" is not just a sorcerer in elaborate make-up? Somehow, though, the mere act of this make-believe has influenced how this sorcerer's inherent magical powers developed? And ever since she or he donned the mummy mask, she's been overcome with lethargy and tends to sleep for long periods of time.
While I may not be keen on all the undead found in the Monsternomicons, I would be keen on more "Sluagh", shadowy undead. Using the Mummy character above, perhaps when she or he is in one of those sleeping fits (the circus would call it a "Fugue"), he or she is dreaming of the Sluagh. The mummy is one of the gifted few sorcerers that can see "between" worlds, where the Sluagh shadows reside.
Ahh. This is why I asked people for an editor for when I start pumping out fiction for the circus. I tend to miss things, or lose them when I'm typing up responses to certain points. Anyone interested in editing when I start producing story material?Originally Posted by Bringer of the Void
Anyway, my brain was working on the backstory to Artiskerez. It focused on the one individual because he kept popping up in our conversations. I asked if he should be a true Paingiver, or if he was a Chirurgeon, and had some healing abilities for the rest of the circus. That never got answered, and I forgot completely about the question, but I ended up focusing on him, for some reason. Since he's improved the beast-handling skills of the circus, then he's definitely sharing a beer with the Trollkin and Kossite. And I do get a giggle at seeing a Trollkin with facial hair. Fake? Or has the circus changed him in small ways? Or is he a freak because he had a full beard at one point? Ooh, instead of the "bearded lady", the guy works part time as "The mustachioed Trollkin"! As for the Kossite, this brings me to another point...
Religion! I've talked about how there's a Menite faith in the Circus, but it's a warped version that is a bit more liberal. Heck, it probably has more than a few people who believe in the "Dhunian Heresy", where Menoth was an Ogrun that created mankind to help him fight the Devourer. The Kossite, on the other hand, may have a more warped view of the Devourer. In many ways, these folks probably end up with a Voodoo-like religion that, through shared stories over time, kind of bled together in an amalgamation that accepts all of these faiths. The Morrowans may do lots of good things, but they also have plenty of cautionary tales about Morrow's failings in life. Thamar is more of a prankster that teaches us lessons through extreme embarrassment. Menoth is one who tells people to keep their promises, for breaking them is a sin that "burns the soul". I would need to think about the Devourer idea for a while.
Hmm. Maybe there's a giant spider from another "far-off" (read: African) land that is also a kind of Grymkin, only he's woven all the different stories the families have told over time into what they believe today. Kind of like Compe Anansi folk stories. And maybe he was a hitchhiker with the Voodoo Priestess/Fortune Teller (dice, bones, shells, straws, rather than cards and crystal balls, although she may have incorporated those things for show when in her tent?).
As for Ysmen, I took him out, so to speak, because he's a Warcaster. With the exception of certain solos and the one character unit, there is no crossing between the games. Each faction is considered all warlocks or all casters. However, not having seen the cards for Calaban or Bloody Barnabas, I cannot confirm this is still the case.
Anyway, it was suggested that Ysmen could be a "partisan" for the circus. That way he can work with Ashlynn in the Highborne Covenant to help free New Umbrey from Khador (with the long term goal of helping New Umbrey become an independent nation). Or I can totally rework him to be a Warlock, and Calliope would be a kind of Junker Hulk that has managed to keep a truly Warjack shape.
I'll let everyone debate the last part there.
I will be honest here. My biggest fear about this project is that it becomes too diluted. With so many awesome ideas being discussed, we may lose ourselves in it. I want the Sideshow/Menagerie to be Grymkin, without adding too much of what the other factions already have (such as undead with Cryx and Skorne). I feel that if we want to add concepts borrowed from other factions that they not actually BE those concepts. Rather, they should be full-on mockeries of those concepts. They are pointing the finger at each faction and laughing. For Cygnar and Khador, they have the Junker Hulks that mock their precious, well-designed Warjacks. They have Menite Artifacts, and they've blasphemed them. And maybe... just maybe... that huge, glowing crystal they keep in the back? That's an athanc of an unnamed dragon. Strangely, it has no influence over anyone in the circus...
I remember something said about how normal things are made important by people. Words are "bad" because others believe they carry a certain power.
Ahh well. I'll shut up now and work on Loopy.

Re: "Evil Twin Circus"
This is what I'm talking about. In my addressing other points, I missed an important point to address. I could be a politician!
I"m all cool with an "evil twin" circus. Where the Wernitov and the sideshow families are not all happy and cuddly types, nor can they really ever have a "good" designation, there could be a circus that takes depravity to a whole new level.
I just want to work on the Wernitovs, which I am referring to as the Sideshow or Menagerie, because I feel that, though Horse Lord Wernitov may have been the progenitor that started it all, and may in fact be the largest of all the circuses, there are others out there, with some equally bizarre grymkin influences, and all have signed up under one contract. "The Sideshow Menagerie", I think, describes a Hordes faction better, hence my use of it. Other names could be "The Great and Horrible Show", or what have you.
So, evil circus? Sure. Go for it. I really don't want to sound "snobby" or too "good for it". I just don't want to contribute to it until I can get my thoughts on the Wernitov side of things together.

And just as a information, they were not overpowered, I compared their fire power to any other cavalry, and other cavalry does MORE damage in average as those...
Now i fixed them, the headshot is now kind of an weaponmaster chance on living models and I removed a few bonus rules.
We should make a post where we list all current units of this circus or sideshow, so we can decide what we still need.

You can find it here.

I'll start the new thread. But before I do, I want people's input on a name for this minion/pact. I would like to incorporate the name "Menagerie", but then, I did originally start them with the name "Sideshow" in there, somewhere.
Here's my choices:
The Sideshow Menagerie
The <adjective> Menagerie
"The Grand and Horrible Show"

The Touring Menagerie?
There seems to be some friction around the Grymkin/Fairy Tale/Carny's ideas as to which direction this is going in, but remember that all the Factions have several subfactions contained within them, some of our favorite characters conspire to kill eachother in the fluff! And you don't get much more fractious than a sideshow act, each one is independant and will have its own special gimmick to draw the crowds; what kind of circus it is depends solely on your choice of models.
"Let's not be English, French or German any more. Let's be European. No, not European, let's be men. Let's be humanity. All we have to do is get rid of one last piece of egocentricity - patriotism."

I like that. For some reason, I have "The Vagabond Menagerie" in my head. Grr. Must control stray thoughts.
Oh, speaking of stray thoughts, re: cavalry. While I originally wanted lariat riders, the effort has already been put in, I could save the lariat rider for a solo.
Instead of pistols, what about long-handled throwing axes? I feel that guns would take away from the star of the trick shooting show, Mr. Montrose. Bear with me, here. They're riding around, chucking axes at targets, chopping apples off the tops of heads while in full gallop. Using the Wolves of Orboros, they could have Weapon Master on the throw, but have a standard "reach" weapon in melee. Change "Critical Headshot" to "Critical Headsplitter".
Correct me on medieval weapons history, BotV, but looking at the Francesca (the Frank weapon), didn't the warriors learn how to "bounce" the axe off the ground to get up under the shields of Roman soldiers? Perhaps, if they did forfeit their movement, their ranged attack with these axes could ignore bonuses to armor given by shields or shield walls.
Ahh. The Wernitovs called the families together, they all agree to this alliance, but they each have their own agendas. Got it!Originally Posted by simon sez

But are you comfortable with that "fix"? I was offering suggestions, to blend a stunt rider act with a more medieval Eastern [well, central] European horse show. And with what you've got now? I'm thinking that the models are way more expensive, and could be dropped to 6/8.
But, what did you think of the idea about "If the model forfeits its move action, the thrown axe gains "chain weapon" for one turn?

uh? they have pow 10 weaponmaster weapons, 2x and 2 melee reach weapons. But I could maybe put that chain weapon effect in.
Added.

I liked the cow boy scheme for them, thats why they were called Rowdy Boys, but like this it is ok too, you can do much **** with 2 guns on a horse btw.
And I still think we should make a list of all UNIT's/SOLO's and WARCASTER etc.
Ask and ye shall receive.
Earlier in this thread, I made the list, but I never went back and edited it to include the new characters. For the new thread, I'll start transferring the character info, and put links in the "Table of Contents" post. As I also mentioned, I'm using FoW: Privateers as a model, but with everything growing as it is, perhaps if someone with FoW: Retribution of Scyrah would give me the template of that book's table of contents...
I'm fully willing to change the title of the thread if "Vagabond Menagerie" doesn't work for the entire group.![]()

Hm, whats left to do? units? warlocks? warbeasts? I think warbeasts.... hm we have already many solos.
I don't see any reason to start a new thread, as it would be a shame to lose any of what's been put in here. Plus, the more contributions to the thread, the less risk of it going inactive and getting ModLocked.
In fact, I would like to make a formal appeal to get this guy stickied for the Fan Fiction section. Any mods listening?
I understand the push for organization, but I think Jaren took the right step by having a link archive at the beginning of the thread. Maybe we can divide that space into two separate groups of links (one for the Sideshow and one for Models that arent affiliated or belong to the preexisting factions).
As i have like zero tech knowhow, I would humbly ask Jaren to give it a shot.
Then again, feverdream's thread for compiling the "finished" material is looking good.

@ Feverdream:
That comic made me LOL. And now my co-workers are looking at me funny.
If you want to put the sideshow up in a new thread, it's all good. This is the GENERAL Homebrew thread after all. When more stuff gets posted in there I'll link it to the Table of Contents post. Should really limit it to finalised entries of things already in THIS thread and only post completely NEW ideas for the sideshow in there.
On a related note, both of my units are Mercs right now - better edit them into Minions, I guess.
EDIT: Actually, that's something that needs resolution - who will Sideshow models work for? Is it a grab-bag of Hordes factions and the only common link is "Sideshow" in the model description or is there some common theme?
@ redscores:
I like the re-worked Rowdy's. Nicely done.
EDIT 2: If any of you guys notice Homebrews in other areas (like faction boards), could you let them know that all the cool kids are posting in here? Or shoot me a PM with a link and I'll put it in the ToC. I'd love to have the time to patrol the whole board for Homebrew and link them up but I am, alas, just one man.
EDIT 3: I actually re-considered something - Ultimately, this is Feverdream's project. I'm inclined to give him final yay / nay on any final Sideshow decisions. I'm going to keep any new ideas I have in here and leave it to him to compile the final line-up.

I’ve checked some of My Books about Ancient Weapons and Your analysis about the Francisca Hatchet is essentially correct; not only this kind of Light Battleaxe (that was used in its First Primitive Incarnations by the Gauls far before the Franks, as described in the “De Bello Gallico” of Julius Caesar) was capable of Achrobatic and Dexterous kind of Thrown Maneuvers…
Even the Vikings’ “Skeggox” (Single-Edged with a Triskelion carved in bas-relief) or the “Labrys” (Double-Edged and capable of beheading even with a Primitive Brass Alloy) of the Classical Ancients Greeks and Trojans were reported as launch-capable by some Chroniclers and Historians of the Past…
Modern Enthusiasts of the Replica Weapons of Antiquity tried to reproduce the Techniques described in Old Stories, Ancient Romances, Classical Legends, Narrative Reports and Historical Accounts (many of whom are of difficult verifiability from exaggerated sources) like the Ground-Bounce Effect that You described (reported even for the “Gae Bolga” of the Celts, a sort of viciously spiked Spear capable of being thrown from a supine position with leg muscle force)…
Some smaller specimens of similar weapons (like Modern Hand Hatchets and Native Indian Tomahawks, even those Primitive Precolombian Items with a Stone-Head) were described possible of complex Short Range Underhand Throws and Spinning Launch with a Rapid Torque for obtaining Longer Range…
There are also some Theories about Horseriders that charge at full-throttle to throw their Hatchets and Light Waraxes with the extra Momentum adding to Impact Power and Extra Range; a similar Idea could be applied to these Mounted Troopers…
Game-Wise these were Excellent Stats, and they could represent another “Circus Trope” instead of Pistol Sharpshooters; maybe they are the equivalent of the Native Americans working on Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show (if not applicable for the Iron Kingdoms Background, maybe We could use as inspiration some Khardic Horselords or Kossite Riders acting like the Sarmatians of the Movie “King Arthur”)…
If there are some other Cool Concept of Real World Classical Weapons that could be interesting as “Cultural Tropes” let Me know, as I’m yet using these sources for the Rough Illustrations that I’m preparing, so it will be only a short rework for the Material going developed…
Obviously first will be completed the Three Warcasters and later stuff in sequential Order of development.....
Updated and organised the Table o' Contents.
@Feverdream:
If you want Ysmen to be affiliated with the Sideshow while remaining a Warcaster, you can give him either "Minion Warcater [Sideshow]" and allow him and Calliope into 2 'caster games OR "Sideshow Partisan" which would allow him to run a Sideshow list all by himself.
Let me know and I'll put him in the correct category on the ToC.

Sorry guys about not posting in a bit. Work and painting and classes kind of caught me off guard.
@BotV
Thanks for confirming what I read about the Francisca. Sure, it may have been exaggerated, but things tend to get exaggerated in RPGs and fantasy war games. For the sake of the Iron Kingdoms, we can rename the Francisca to be more "Idrianish" or "Umbreanish" to reflect that. Or just invent something altogether.
As for the "theme" to the Rowdy Boys, they could easily be a mix of Umbreans and Idrians, and wear garish costuming that is reminiscent of Native American tribes.
Hrm. Cultural tropes. I think I'd want to throw in some Ottoman elements, for more of the eastern look. Only exaggerated. And of course, we could pick two cultures, throw them in a blender, and come up with something that way, too!
@Jaren
Great job you are doing here, pooling everyone's ideas. And I'm glad you got a chuckle out of the comic.
I think, once all is said and done, we can discuss/vote what should go in the "fanbook". This also after we find what synergies may be broken altogether. Because of the amount of ideas that have been presented here, should I use the Retribution book as a "template", or because it's a smaller Minion army, that the original Privateers book be used?

The following is just the story of Zane. I was working on Loopy, but got distracted somehow, and ended up working on this.
Zane is supposed to be more of an infantry caster with anti-Warmachine properties (like Venethrax is anti-hordes). The bonds he has formed with his family serve to strengthen both him and those under his command. He's not a very good leader, but he does his best to keep them strong and ready for battle. I imagine spells like "Iron Flesh" and "Eruption of Spines" (in the form of metal shards flying out), would be quite fluffy for him. Obliteration seems a good candidate for an offensive spell. And maybe another good infantry buff.
Physically, I picture him kind of like Nigel Bennet's character "Prince" from the sci-fi series "Lexx", only much thinner and with the right half of his body full of barbell piercings, rusty splints, jagged metal, and the occasional dragon spine covering most of it.
Though, as always, I'm open to suggestion.
========================================
Zane “The Metal Monster, Lord of the Lodestone” Leary
Blighted Sideshow Minion Warlock
Life in Western Immoren is truly a horrible thing for children. Life for children in Blackwater, in the shadow of the Dragonfather, is much, much worse. Cryx is not called “The Nightmare Isles” for nothing. With the roving gangs, the undead, and necrotechs looking for fresh parts, it takes a particularly clever child to survive from day to day in the wicked port city. Luck also plays a big part.
Zane Leary, a Scharde by birth, just happened to be one of those insanely lucky runts to ever escape the clutches of Blackwater. That isn’t to say he survived the ordeal intact. Cryx has left an indelible mark in both his mind and body; the Dragonfather’s blight had begun warping his frame.
Before he was even ten years of age, he managed to stowaway on a pirate vessel that was docked in Blackwater. Halfway on the journey to Five Fingers, he was discovered. The spiny growths and twisted expression on half of his body disgusted the crew that they threw him overboard. Luck, for some reason, decided to spare the wretch and somehow Zane not only survived, but managed to swim to the shores of Carre Dova, a city where he would spend a few more of his formative years in. The thieving skills he picked up in his homeland helped him survive the winters there. Food was slightly more abundant there than back in the place of his birth. As all good things come to an end, the miserable blighted wretch was discovered, and rather than face a stray bullet or an angry mob, Zane ran north into the woods of Hetha. Luck would then smile on the child one more time. During his flight from Carre Dova, he ran into a lone pilgrim on some sort of inscrutable mystic journey. She was a strange priestess of Menoth, or so she claimed. Rather than cleanse the hideous, blighted child before her, she took pity on him and soon became a surrogate mother. This was probably the first kindness he had ever experienced. The experiences of kindness had soon grown, as both the priestess and Zane stumbled upon one of the hidden freakshow villages of the Wernitov New Umbrean Sideshow. Both he and the priestess were welcomed with open arms.
Over the years, Zane traveled with the Sideshow, mostly doing laborious tasks such as setting up the tents and stages for the circus. During that time, however, the Dragonfather’s blight would slowly consume more of the right side of his body. Toruk’s whispers would soon creep into his thoughts, and an inner rage and loathing had begun to clutch his very soul. Seeing the growing disturbances in her adoptive child, the Menite priestess did her best to try and stem the horrifying tide that was consuming her ward. She instilled in Zane a deep-rooted conviction in her faith, which helped ease the pain consuming flooding his body. After learning of some of the more extreme forms of worship, Zane had begun to adopt self-mortification, a form of supplication that became the central focus of his life. Zane would start piercing the blighted side of his body with just about every jagged piece of metal he could find. Often, he’d find some discarded steel somewhere that had “meaning” to him, and it would soon become his obsession to stave off further growth of the blight. Interestingly enough, it worked.
Aside from his newfound method of “praying”, Zane had formed bonds of friendship and family with other members of the Sideshow. Having been given a new lease on his pathetic life, he took the “Oath of the Families”, and became one of the Menagerie’s most zealous of defenders (not a surprise, considering his Menite faith). With the wars in Western Immoren escalating, it was only a matter of time before innocent family members would get caught in the crossfire during one of their city stops. As more and more of his adoptive siblings died, the rage in his heart would grow. With the arrival of Everblight on the scene, the proximity to a mass of blighted creatures only stoked this rage even further. The whispers of the Dragonfather became screams, and Zane would lash out at everything that came near, leaving nothing but dead and bloody bodies all around him. To quiet the noise in his brain, Zane would reach out to the various beasts in the Menagerie. His fury somehow formed an empathic link to the primal instinct of the exotic creatures held by the circus. Even stranger was how he seemed to give rise to the monsters known as “Junker Hulks”, strange creatures composed of detritus and “controlled” by a broken steamjack cortex.
When Ringmaster Stelleyla sounded a call to arms from the various Sideshow families, Zane was among the first to “enlist”. With many of his family members dying around him, he pledged to fight to defend them, and fervently subscribed to Stelleyla’s renewal of the Old Code: Ten Lives for One. Zane, however, would take hundreds. He wades into battle with the Spike Driver, a large wooden hammer he has been using since he started working at the Menagerie. Soaked with his blighted blood and sweat, this strange instrument has become a powerful weapon in his fight. At his side is a scattergun that Zane has loaded with rusty nails and metal shavings, making a wicked spray of pain on his enemies.

FEAT: The Final Insult
Zane's blight has been staunched from consuming more of his body, but the effects on his mind still rears its ugly head from time to time. This is especially true in the heat of battle. For Leary, a normally healthy desire to protect one's family is turned into an outright bloody obsession. The hideous rage he suffers at seeing his cousins die at the hands of enemies sends his rage into overdrive. This rage can be felt through everyone in the sideshow, and it makes enemies truly suffer for every one of those they take from Leary's life. Enemies that strike down one of Zane's family members soon find trouble as the corpse explodes in their face in a hail of metal and fire, punishing them for taking what is precious to the Warlock.
Whenever an enemy model destroys a friendly Sideshow model in this model's Control Area, center a 3"(4", as per Durgen's spell?) AoE on the destroyed model. Enemy models caught in the AoE suffer a POW 16 damage roll.

Just an idea for a spell/feat
Cilice- Enemy models in this models control area suffer a POW 12 hit for each Focus point it possesses.
Kinda combines the anti-WM, religious, and self-mutliation ideas you talked about.
Another idea is that instead of spike Driver, his Blight-afflicted arm could be mutated, sort of like this:
But more black and scaly, and obviously pierced with metal shards

I'd like to make a quick petition to at least provide a link in the index to Redscores' current solo project, a FoH: Zu army that can be found in the active threads on the Fan Fiction forum.
He's got 3 locks so far and they're looking good, but I want to make sure our top-notch creative community knows what's going on!
Simon Sez also has a similar Zu thread of his own going, this one a FoW-oriented endeavor. Best of luck to both!
Unrelated note: SOMEone needs to stat up this Junker Hulk we've been talking so much about. My vote is for Feverdream, since it seems Zane Leary has a direct connection to them. Regardless, I want to see this beast, one of the more interesting MN monsters, brought to life!

Born Decklan Torcail to a wealthy New Larkholm family, he grew up surrounded by relatives convinced of their Tordoran bloodline. These delusions of grandeur, and a natural family aptitude for the Art, caused many of his siblings to pursue lives of academia and hermetic study. Arguably as smart as anyone in his family, Decklan’s talents were more aligned with the lowlier arts of mechanical repair. Seeking to distance himself from his family, he slipped away to Ceryl and changed his name to Goodsmith in fitting with his desired vocation. He apprenticed to a Gobber mechanic known as Mox, along the way developing the resource-efficient skills of bodging, as well as picking up a basic understanding of Gobberish Molgur – though mostly curse words and bartering terms. During his apprenticeship, Decklan earned extra money by participating in underground pit fights, where he realized his talent at combining a sound mind with a solid fist. As his notoriety grew, he was offered a job by a local recruiter for the Leatherskin Irregulars. He jumped at the opportunity with gusto, leaving his apprenticeship unfinished. In his two years with the Irregulars, Decklan learned a great deal from Jelyan Kerrigan and was noted for his ability to stretch already limited resources to their breaking point. He developed several contacts around Ceryl and Ord during this time, most importantly a brash young Fraternal Order member named Cassius Faust. At one point, the Fort Balton trencher company hired a small retinue of Irregulars, supplemented by a handful of Daggermoor Rovers, to assist them with what was supposed to be a small border skirmish with the Kossites. Unfortunately, the intelligence proved faulty, and what awaited was a full Khadoran border patrol accompanied by artillery and an unidentified warcaster. Most of the Cygnaran and Mercenary force was slaughtered, and the survivors were hounded by manhunters and widowmakers across the border and through the Cloutsdown Fen. Among these survivors were Decklan Goodsmith and a veteran Rover named Mira ad-Zahari, and they teamed together in a desperate attempt to survive. Their combined foraging and stealth skills kept them alive, though a surprise widomaker attack left Decklan wounded. At their most desperate moment, the survivors found aid from the wandering kith-less shaman, Orlack Fenhowler. Fenhowler quickly dispatched their pursuers and nursed the two humans back to health. The trio became fast friends, and upon heading back to Ceryl, they decided to team up in pursuit of minor tavern jobs. While at one of these taverns, they reconnected with Cassius Faust, who was newly ejected from the Fraternal Order for accidentally setting fire to one of the archives. Impressed by his (somewhat unpredictable) magic expertise, the three friends hired him on, thus gaining the fourth – and final – member of the newly-minted Scavenger Expedtion Company, or Scavs for short.
Decklan Goodsmith is fond of using whatever he can find, and thus his leather armor is covered with crisscrossing bandoliers, holsters, pouches, and pockets. The bottom half of his specially-modified greatcoat is festooned with pockets full of seemingly useless scrap and gears. Along with a few spare pistols (which he rarely remembers to reload) Goodsmith wields a pneumatic carbine of his own design, called "Scrapshot", which is multipurpose and deceptively simple to maintain. The chamber can be packed with either normal blasting powder rounds or, in a pinch, appropriately-sized battlefield scrap, which is propelled by a small and ingenious steam chamber. The steam chamber can be refilled in the field by attaching to a special spigot on a steamjack boiler. The unique design even allows for impromptu use as a launching vehicle for grenades – something the scavenger is rarely without. Goodsmith has a handy knife stored on his shoulderpad, perfect for up close encounters, but his signature weapon is far more brutal. Once, while disarmed, Goodsmith grabbed the closest thing he could reach: an oversized mechanik’s wrench. He quickly used it to trip and kill his opponent, and discovered he liked the way it felt so much that he simply continued using it. It has come in handy both as a repair tool and as a way of… fixing certain problems.
MODEL STATS AND MORE FLUFF TO FOLLOW. This is gonna be a long one.
Note: these models are not directly affiliated with the Sideshow, though it is not inconceivable to think they have worked together.
