    Default OldOneEye's Khador

Since I'm getting more painting work done recently than I have in years, I plan to be posting pictures of finished models more frequently. As such. I'm going to start a thread for my painted models.

I'll spend some time catching up in future replies, but I'm going to kick things off with my most recent finished models-- a minimum unit of Winter Guard Infantry. As much as I love these guys, it's taken me four years to get around to painting even this many of them. At least I have a legal unit of them painted now...

Coming soon: my Kodiaks (both metal and plastic), Spriggan, Manhunter, Sorscha1, and maybe even an old Destroyer. Future posts will have models and units as they're finished.

    Thanks for looking!

Good looking Winterguard. I especially like the unit leader with the cigar.

    Looks great!
One of the reasons I havent picked this unit up is because it would take me ages to paint them. Im not so keen on painting big units.

Great Winter Guard, really like that the unit leader is chewing on a big old cigar there.

    Warjacks:

The Destroyer is the second Warmachine model I painted (my first, a Juggernaut, will never see the light of day XD). Now, that's after some ten odd years of playing and painting Warhammer/40K, but it did represent an evolutionary step in my painting. My GW stuff was all pretty amateurish-- lots of drybrushing all over the models, etc. When I began Warmachine, I wanted to be a much better painter. So, I really began working on actual highlighting and shading: mixing paints, wet blends, and so on. The Destroyer here was my first "success". It doesn't match the army scheme any more, but I'm not repainting it because it's going to be cycled out in favor of a plastic Destroyer. Still, it's painted, so it's here.

My metal Kodiak, who is getting cycled out in favor of its big brother.

A Spriggan. Loved this 'jack in MKI, and I love it even more in MKII.

My new Kodiak, converted from the plastic kit (work thread in my sig).

Now, the remainder of what I have currently painted:

Sorscha, back from the days when "fully painted army" meant "painted Battlebox". I still like the scheme I used here, but I think the color scheme on the majority of the 'jacks and the Winter Guard looks more... utilitarian. More appropriate for an army in the field, I guess. Sorscha's scheme here looks more formal or ornamental.

My Manhunter, sans funny hat. It ended up being a pretty simple conversion, but an effective one as well.

Really like Sorscha in that black outfit, looks very much like a parade uniform like you said, very cool though.

These are excellent paintjobs. The colours are well chosen and equally as well applied.

I really like the browns you've got here. And the hatless manhunter is awesome. Very unique scheme overall and really well executed.

I've heard Hagrid before; I think that's been the most frequent one. Maybe Rob Zombie, Charles Manson... :P

None of those really bother me, though. I mean, Charles Manson does kinda, but for what the Manhunter is supposed to be like...

    Just finished a Greylord Ternion.

I'll spare you a picture of the back, but it's the same brown as on the warjacks and the Winter Guard coats.

The snow is Woodland Scenics Snow. It's an awesome buy-- 32 oz. for $10. I mix it up with glue and water to make a thick paste, then spread it onto the bases.

The first of many Man-o-War models-- the Kaptain of my Demo Corps.

I kinda rushed him, but he looks okay. It doesn't really show in the pictures, but the red on the shoulders is a bit streakier than what I would've liked, so I'm going to go back over that with some red ink to smooth out the transitions. Also, I'm probably going to hit some of the screws with a black ink wash to clean them up. Hopefully I can knock out the rest of the unit tonight; I should be able to at least do the minimum unit by bed if I keep at it.

I'm really diggin the brown on your army. I might have to steal that conversion on your manhunter also. Looks awesome.

I especially like the frosted metal look you achieved on the ice maul. Kind of subtle, but it really helps sell the idea that ice mauls are very cold.

I kinda adapted the "glowy blue" look of the studio Demo Corps, but I've had the idea for a while. I thought about doing the same type of thing with the Juggernaut's Ice Axe (and may still do it).

As long as they don't try to take up after the majority of my army-- unpainted after 4 to 5 years. XD

These look really great. I have been toying around with the idea of a Brown base for my Khador for a while and this really shows how well it can be done! This is definitely going to be my inspiration to get my Khador painted! Keep up the amazing work and great conversions!

Very nice painting. I'm personally not a big fan of Winter Guard in brown coats but I think you pulled it off quite nicely.

I actually really enjoy your painting style. It seems like the line between the extreme hardcore painting and the more simple approach that I use, myself.
