    Default Small Transport Case?

It's about models, technically, so thought I'd throw it out here.

My son is going to be receiving his first battle box (Stryker and 'jacks) all painted up for Christmas. (Well, provided I can actually get the time to finish painting all of them.) I have a growing Cygnar army from which he will eventually be borrowing additional models. Because I have really huge storage and transport cases and we're running out of space, I'd like to get him just the smallest (yet still durable) case I can, for his battlegroup.

The problem I am having is that most cases built for small armies are not built to accommodate the dimensions of the Ironclad.

Can anybody point me to a case that will fit the bill? Deep enough for an Ironclad, but small for a small army?

Note that we have ugly old toolboxes full of his old plastic D&D figs, and my wife and I would like to stay away from more such solutions. We'd like it to be a nice, professional case, if possible. Something nice for the holidays.

Any help would be most appreciated.

i would totally recommend battlefoam bags http://www.battlefoam.com/... but if not i have a sabol army transport and sabol division with full foam, mostly un-plucked i would be willing to sell for at least half off... and they have virtually no wear and tear.. i just dont like how the division tips your models sideways when you tilt it up on the wheels...http://www.saboldesigns.net/division.html

Thanks for the reply. I had thought of Battlefoam, but there again, the smallest Battlefoam bag does not seem to have the proper depth for an Ironclad.

Try out some gun cases or even cheaper Chessex cases.

I am more and more inclined to apply magnets to the bottom of my bases and use old metal tool boxes.

They look AWESOME in the case.

You can fit more than ANY foam case on the market or outside of the gaming market, ie, gun cases.

I would go the magnet route. You can get a tool case from yard sales, Harbor Freight or pawn shops.

If you want foam cases, go to a pawn shop or thrift store and find a hard plastic case that a drill comes in. Most of the time those shops have empty ones. Cut out the insert and spray adhesive the foam padding inside. The foam padding being bed topper sheets. That kind of case will run you about $5 total all said and done.

I would like to point out, when your son is ready for a full sized case and if he wants foam...

Amazing cases that are perfect for everything Warmachine players will ever need. All of the templates fit perfectly in the front flaps. The book zipper can fit all your books. I have Prime, Primal, PoM and Trollbloods all in one book flap. Dont like Blu foam, buy it empty and fill it with whatever you want to fill it with.

Double pistol case from WalMart or another big store with a sporting goods department. A double depth of foam lets me get a ton of models in it....

Bruunwald, unless you have a crazy big conversion on the ironclad, remember he doesn't have to sit in foam base down. He can lay on his back, or front, or side, in which case for the most part, 50mm is all you need for foam depth. I have a Feral Warpwolf stored in 50mm foam, and he's face first info the foam despite the fact he hangs off his base all over the place.

I am a VERY big fan of my toolbox and magnets. Especially if you get the kind with little trays/drawers and it will make your son's arm stronger

I got a used army - probably 50 or so points - tucked into a cordless drill case that had been filled with egg-crate foam. Most of the army is sandwiched between two pieces of foam but the heavies have slight indentations cut out for them, and it seems pretty secure.
If you'd like something a little less fixer-upper I think Kaiser Rushforth has some half-height cases that might still fit Ironclads. I have all my heavies standing up in a single V5H pick-n-pluck (72mm deep) but they have a V2H flat - supposedly 51mm deep - that would fit in their half-height cases alongside one or two half-width unit flats. All their cases are shipped for free and come with a full complement of the foam inserts you select; I've been quite happy with mine.

    Hiya mate,
Have a look at battlehives. Really great boxes that alot of local guys I know use. Relatively cheap and the foam trays have thick card underneath to make removing heavy& expensive models easy.

Maybe I should just give in and get him a normal size. I suppose he'll fill it up soon enough.

    Thanks, everyone for the advice.

I used a 4-Pistol case for when I started out with warmachine, back when the Prime models were the only thing out, and I fit everybody from Cygnar into one easily.
I'm pretty sure I had the 3 warcasters, full units of trenchers, long gunners, gun mages, and stormblades, along with all the solos in the top eggcrate.

This is what they look like, you can usually pick them up at Walmart or your local sporting goods store for anywhere between $5-$20, depending on time of year.
They have a great firm eggcrate foam on the top layer that fits infantry perfectly, and a flat ~1.25" foam on the bottom that I just cut rectangles in to lay my
heavy warjack down on thier backs in, and cut some circles and stood up my metal Lancers/Chargers, and they fit just fine. I had 2 Lancers, a Charger, a Sentinel and
2 Defenders + 2 Ironclads in there with room for probably 4 more heavies and 3-4 more lights, easy. Tossed my templates behind the foam
layer in the lid, and bam, I'm done. (wow... did we really play with only 2 heavy jack choices to choose from back then? :P )

(Matter of fact, I just went and pulled one out of the closet to check dimensions, and found an original Charger still down in it,
along with my battlebox Stryker and a dozen smoke templates for my trenchers Poor guys have probably been in there for 5 years now, left them behind when
I moved to a Sabol bag.)
