    Default Loki's Iron Curtain

Posting around half of my Khador; the rest are in need of a touch up seeing as I've not been particularly kind to them over the last 2 years.

I'll answer any questions to the best of my ability, but most of these models were painted between a year and 6 months ago.

First up Karchev; my first and favorite Caster. (I love jacks, what can I say)

Next is the Twins, not as auto include as they were in MkI, but just about always taken with Karchev.

That's a good looking force. One thing that confuses me. Kharchev has that awesome custom base but the rest get nothing. How come?

Defenstrator--laziness at this point. Karchev got disassembled, modded and repainted about 4-5 months ago for a painting comp. (took 2nd in large model division) and I've been making a point of basing everything since and even based a few that I didn't repaint. But before that point I was just being rather lazy.

I'm looking to strip and redo my full unit of Uhlans and Markov fairly soon.

These are some bad *** looking jacks! I like the way you painted them; I believe jacks, especially Khadoran jacks, should look grimy and beat up and used, not shiny and pretty and perfect. Nice work, and it's inspiring me to resume working on my friend's Spriggan that is sitting by me as I type this to make it look a little more dingy. Well done!

What's the swirling around pVlad supposed to be? It looks interesting, any closer shots of him?

Great looking force. I really like the pose on the plastic jack; much more dynamic than the studio pose.

Well, the guys at my LGS say it's mustard. It's suppose to be energy swirling around him, but I need to work on that.

In all honesty, I hate pVlad's sculpt, but I can't proxy w/ eVlad at SR events. Some point in the future, when I have time, I plan on making one out of an eVlad sculpt.

Nice painted force and a great idea for Vlad (p). If you ever consider doing another energy swirl, I would suggest using fine brass wire (infact the P3 brass pack does the trick), it is fiddly but looks great once in place.

    Keep up the great work.

Update: Strakov and Torch. I really enjoyed doing the flames and building the bases.

Markov and Uhlans. I started stripping these guys about mid-November and they've be getting constantly pushed back by School and my Gators. I went full out on they're rebuild since they were in need of pinning for the lances and some GS work for gaps. Originally they lacked both due to a lack of modeling finesse I had when I first started playing Warmachine. Matter of fact, they were my first unit of "Infantry" after getting both Karchev, Vlad and several Jacks.

It's also my first try at using layering rather then my usual layers of dry-brushing. Personally I have mixed feelings so far.

The flame motif on the right side of Torch is a nice little touch! As are the actual flames of course.
    Nice looking force all around!

Thanks guys. My GF still can't understand why I was so excited about how well the flames came out on Torch. I've a lot of flames on a larger scale when I repainted some Mechwarrior Clix game minis in 7th Ghost Legions scheme; white w/ blue flames up the one side. I just get excited when I sit down and, after some frustration and redoing, manage to pull something off beyond my expectation.

Iron Wrath--If only I had taken pics of the Uhlans before stripping. I could give you an idea of how much my painting ability has progressed in the last couple years. Between pointers from others and just sitting down and painting I've made leaps and bounds. If anyone puts their mind to it and puts in a few hours a week they can surprise themselves at their own progress.

Not a pic update just yet as I can't seem to find the blasted camera, but eButcher is set for pics.

Currently I'm in the process of painting my Greylords over a couple of pints of Red from a local brewery. To get to the point, I'm wondering if I might take a course on color theory from the local college this summer to keep improving my skills. I had a few class in high school, but, like many, didn't pay a whole lot of at attention. To this point I've gone by pointers and a ton of experimentation; would it be worth my time.

Comments...suggestions... more beer. All are welcome.

Well, it took me longer then I thought to get pics of my new stuff. Between Finals week and tracking down the camera.

    Epic Butcher....(duh duh duhhhhn)

And I filled out my Shocktroopers. It was a minor headache to dig out some old paints and remember exactly how I painted them originally.

And finally my Greylord Ternion. Have some OSL to do on two of them, but I needed a break from painting them and need some more confidence in painting before I attempt it.

Alrighty, about month and a half ago I started to follow gdaybloke and the Lost Hemisphere crew. At the time I was sitting on a min unit of Ironfangs+UA having given up half way through brass rodding them. Well Lost Hemisphere's 'Paint the Target' managed to inspire me to go into over drive getting them done.

And yes, I didn't swap the officer's pike as I was sick of my pin-vise by the time I got to him.

Changed styles? I must have missed something.

I did the brass rod change out on the full 12 man unit. Spent a lot of time on them... time well spent.

Yep Alex, it that same one. The Spriggan I picked up that day is getting a similar base, but I think I'll leave out the I-beam and add snow like the Uhlans.

Agamemnon--Starting with eButcher and the Uhlans, I switched to a 'Foundation, Wash, Layer' style of painting. I also started using the method where you start at the lowest layer/recess and the worked out on the model; necessitating the switch in style. Previously I did layering of washes and Dry Brushing which is still very quick and effective, but I've found that I can personally get a greater amount of detail with this new style. My Gators still use the layers of dry brushing and I like how it looks for them and have no plans to change their style. I could probably go on for sometime about the reasonings and such for change how I paint my Khador. One last thing I will say is that I've slowly evolved closer to the studio scheme while adding tertiary colors specific to particular Casters.

I've been using that method for many years, I find it's a good way of getting a nice result without being too labor intensive.

I still use wash & drybrush for metals, I think that's the best method for them. Also use wash if I need to blend layers together a little more.
