Default Min unit of Kayazy Assassins with UA

    Hi everyone,

Normally with any of my Khador units I will take a max unit.

Last night, I was playing a friendly and decided to change it up a bit and take a min unit of Kayazy assassins with the UA (I feel that he is a must).

I deployed them on a far flank and my opponent still had to deal with them, but they were that little bit cheaper. They functioned quite well in this role, and if my widowmakers could have hit the side of a barn and killed gun mages the kayazy would have been around that flank and into eHayley's grill.

So I was wondering what people think about taking a min unit of the assassins with the UA, is it a good thing or are you better off going for a max unit with UA?

Aside from meeting tier requirements, the Assassins are probably the one unit that I would consider taking the minimum. I haven't done it yet but as you said, they are still very effective as a super-annoying unit that your opponent has to deal with.

I definitely prefer taking the max though because then you can be incredibly aggressive with them. Spread them up so you have a few models up front and run them towards your enemy's front lines leaving the rest behind for the counter charge.

I also find that even with Stealth and Iron Flesh, a few them always get taken out on the way in, whether it's by AOE's or things that ignore Stealth. A max unit will still maintain its effectiveness even after losing some models.

So far I've always taken the max with the Underboss. I bought a second unit at min size for the theme lists. I love love love the Kayazy.

Since the start of Mk. 2, I've almost always taken minimum units of everything. Though the increased board presence granted by maxed out units is primo for some folks, I almost always reach for another solo/unit before I start maxing anything out. The biggest exceptions are units that don't have a big footprint (MoW,) or are dirt cheap (10 Winter Guard Infantry for 6 points? Who can say no to that?)

So, I've run the minimum unit of Kayazay and the UA most of the times I've used them, and I've been very pleased with their performance. As GlassJaw mentions, you don't have the extra models to buffer you out, so you need to be a bit more cautious on the advance.

Likewise, if you're taking the minimum unit + UA, I think their role changes: with a max unit, you can tie up/harass/murder a lot of your opponent's army, and so they can be used more broadly. With a minimum unit, you need to have something specific you're sending them after and make it their mission to get there as quickly and safely as possible; that way, you're still getting there with plenty of shivving power.
    Everything's eventual.

I actually have a massive block on running things at minimum strength; if it's not at full I don't want it But in the case of the assassins, theme lists, and AKs with their flamethrowers I can certainly see the argument. The math geek in me hates giving up the numerical advantage though, and big units just look so much better on the field to me.

I have taken the min unit with the Underboss a couple times and it can work but I think primarily in a supplimental roll to the main unit that your running.

In one attrition style tournament was up against the High Reclaimer and although they didnt get kill much of anything having them flank and get into the backfield (Killing choir) but it forced my opponent to play his caster more forward out of there range where Irusk could finish him off with his gun (he had already eaten a behemoth bombard). Which was good cause I had barely won against Terminus the round before and severely outnumbered.

I find the Kayazy get A LOT of attention when they are on the board. I typically take max units of them because I feel like your opponent will be able to focus too much on them and take them out easily at min.

i run a min unit of kayazy with UnderBoss all the time in most armies cause the amount of fear they put in people , my main casters atm have been PButcher or Strakhov.
PButcher cause on a feat turn with him they with rip a new one on the charge against alot of casters ( 4 caster kills so far) , and with Strakhov the extra distance allows them to reach a caster hidding at the back of their army

I tend to run a max unit with the Underboss, I've found that with a minimum unit there isn't enough left to get the job done against multiple targets due to the turn to face your charge target has a tendency to remove itself from helping out others via gang. Because of this limit I have found that I am running one or two of my chargers so that they help gang the other and with a minimum unit after taking losses on the way in don't have those 1-2 spare. Thus I take the max size.

A unit with gang would usually be taken at max, since gang is a great ability and needs other surviving members to function.

UA is always taken with the unit, min or max, for me.
