    Default Rock wall template...

In anticipation of Janissa arriving at my LGS I want to begin to think about a rock wall template. Any thoughts on modeling in terms of dimensions? How tall should it be, wide, etc....? What are people using as a base?

Well, the wall template is in the back of Primal. You should start from there I guess.

EDIT: ah, you found out I see.

I have to prepare several such templates, one for Gunny and one for Janissa. I also need to prepare 2-3 trench templates for if I ever use his tiered list. I plan to use plasticard, green stuff and regular stones jutting out at irregular angles to represent the walls.

Technically since the wall provides cover but does not block LOS to any models it has to be less than 1.75" high.

I would love to find a section of wall or something that I could use as the template, rather than paper. Maybe make a plasticard base of the right size and build a wall out of pebbles, or get a modeled wall from a hobby store that would fit on the base?

Its also a linear obstacle, which stops it from being over an 1" tall, I think. I don't have the book right in front of me.

I made mine an inch tall, a little less in some places. I just wood glued some stones from the yard onto a cut down paint stirrer. I'll prime and paint it while I'm waiting for Janissa to show up. I hate playing with anything unpainted!!!

4" long, 0.75" thick (template in back of book) Implications: non-reach models cannot melee attack across the wall if friendly models are 1mm away from wall.

Up to 1" tall (by definition of linear obstacle) Implications: non-charging models may advance across with no movement penalty, but may not stop on the linear obstacle. 2 parallel walls 29mm apart will not allow a model to stop within, significantly reducing charge angles against the models behind the wall.

Rockwall I made under the MK1 rules, but I've made 2 new ones since using the MK2 measurements. It's just cardboard cut to the exact dimensions, elmer's glue and pebbles stacked to about 1" high. Prime it and paint it with a butt load of layers.

Non-reach melee range is .5" so they cannot attack over the wall anyway. Implication is more likely: if you want to benefit form the wall you have to be within 1" of it, which means reach units can attack/engage you. So you got to choose between cover and +2def vs. melee or trying to deny charges/melee attacks in general (by placing your models e.g. 1,5" from wall so enemies cannot reach you or place enemy models behind the wall) but in exchange gain no benefit vs. range attacks.

Or you could have 2 rock walls and get the best of both.

Have a look in this thread, the rock wall template (including a foldupable one) is included in the Trollkin warlock templates section: http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?t=10295

I am making a wall specificly for Janissa, to tell it apart from other rock walls.

Hers will look like 3-4 flat krielstones bursting out of the ground, with glowing runes and everything.

I think kinda funny that you're painting real rocks to look like fake rocks. I can understand why, I just find it chuckle inducing. Thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna make an epic wall for epic Baldur.

I've been using 2 of these:

Though after seeing some of the scratch built works above, I'll have to step up my hobby skills and make a few.

Love the pretzels on white glue wall, that is classic!

I have a pretty nice on as well, just too lazy to run down to the car to get it out and post a pic of it. It is along the lines of the other ones posted tho.

at my flgs a guy started it and i did it the same way
take the back part of janissas blister or the blister of your choice, measure 0,75"x4" and cut it out
then glue real stones onto it and as above mentioned max height is 1"
and yeah we are painting real stones to look like fake stones

I used plasticard base (4"x1") and used dried bark. I like the idea of her ripping rock out of the earth.

One thing to keep in mind. You may very well be wanting to put the wall in front of Mulg, and unless you repose Mulg to have the club higher off the ground, it can become an issue.

I've found that if you take the foam from a blister and fold it in half lengthwise and glue it together, its just about the perfect size, and you're guaranteed to get one of these foam rectangles with both Gunnbjorn AND janissa! cheap n easy til you can get one of these nicer rock walls

Out of curiosity, where did you get the dried bark?
So play like you've got a pair, or put down the metal and go find something made of plastic.

From the park... whilst walking the dog.
Not sure if I pulled it off a tree* or found it on the ground.
Let it dry for a week, shaped to they looked like jarring rocks and then covered in PVA before being painted.

*please note all trees were apologized to and thanked for their generosity.

I went the lazy route and got this from Advanced Deployment. Also got the neat fire wall for my protectorate.

I really like those walls and am inspired to model some walls. However, for now I am simply using foamboard cut to the correct width and length (from the template in the Primal) and then painted them to look like a wall. They are easy to transport as I throw them in the GF9 Trollblood dice tin with my dice and tokens and I don't have problems with Mulg's club and other weapons when they want to hug the wall.

Here is a picture of a Rock Wall I made using some bits and pieces from my friend's Hirst Arts molds for my Gorton Grundback Lists. I used the picture from the back of Prime to get the dimesions right and then mounted it to a piece of MDF board and glued aquarium rocks around the base to make it look like it is bursting up out of the ground. I also let my opponents know that 'only' the wall is the template and not the base.

Now that I have a budding Trollbloods army in my possession I might have to make up a new Rock Wall template that is a bit more troll-like
