A couple takes on eDoomy @35
Hey folks,
finally decided to pick up a hordes force to supplement my Retribution, and the big blue guys were just too cool to pass up. I ended up settling on eDoomy for all his Dire Troll goodness, but I'm a little stuck on which list to go with. Eventually I'll end up with the models to do both I think, but my LGS has trouble getting PP stuff in with any regularity, so I'll be aiming to buy one first. Not a huge difference in them, which I think is why I'm so torn, so any help or thoughts would be great.
1:
eDoomy -6
Troll Axer 6
EBDT 10
Dire Troll Mauler 9
Mulg the Ancient 12
Whelps 2
Runebearer/Lanyssa (who I have for my Ret.) 2
2:
eDoomy -6
Troll Axer 6
Dire Troll Bomber 10
EBDT 10
EBDT 10
Whelps 2
Runebearer/Lanyssa 2
Swamp Gobber Bellows 1
Currently all I possess is 1 EBDT (and of course I want at least 1) and Lanyssa (who I have for my Retribution already), so the rest will be ordered in. I guess it comes down to how necessary Mulg is, and how much I want a Bomber compared to that Mauler. I mean, I guess I could also take List 1 with the bomber and drop the second solo for some Gobbers, but basically the choice is between Mulg and the second EBDT, and how much I care to have a ranged beast. I love the animus on the Mauler, as it helps the EB if I'm stuck up against a warbeast with a poor weapon strength (though our local meta is very WM heavy), or helps the Axer put some hurt on, but I'm not sure if another melee boost is necessary. At the same time, I don't know if I should even be bothering with a ranged beast of any kind? Don't worry about cash price while considering it, I've already stashed enough money for the trolls regardless of what list I go for.

I personally like the first, it will probably be what I try out, too.
You could also consider (at some point) dropping a beast to get some screening troops for eDoomy, but I personally like the 3 beast version
Makes a killer 25 point list with just the beasts as well (with no Axer), from what I've heard!

Destroyer of Worlds
I would really recommend finding a way to stick in a Min unit of Kriel warriors or Fennblades. If people get the ability to get LoS to eDoomie he's going to die. And while beast heavy looks tempting, as we can also have deceptive charge distances, if anyone can get to him.....they will. And he's dead

Since Edoomy does NOTHING for our troopers, I would high recommend Boomhowler & his 4+ tough troops. They are very self sufficient due to their own fellcall's (mostly of which you'll be using the +4 tough) and can hold a flank rather well because of it.

i do prefer the second list, having so many big guys you may have some problems dealing with infantery heavy armies. so the bomber seems a must.
i would recomend using some kind of unit to protect eDoomy, fennblades, kriels or champions (i use this ones) also playing such a warbeast heavy list, runebearer is also a must.

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm eventually going to add in some champs and boomy once I head towards 50, but at this point I think I'm just going to go all beasts, just as a change from my near purely infantrymachine Dawnguard army. I certainly see the point in having some screening for Doomy though, but honestly in our local meta almost all the shooting of any range we see is on heavy jacks anyway.

I played something very close to list 1 in a tourney recently and must say it was a blast great thing about small base troops is trample! On feat turn that's a lot of distance and still 5 attacks on whoever's in the back with 3 heavies! Plus refuge allows you to bring one back. Med bases are an issue but I see one of them (read mulg) wading through them with goad and then strolling back to doomy, clearing charge lanes and getting out of the way himself. With edoomy your heavies are your ranged attacks, course with 50pts I throw in the Bomber and impaler cause that's just explosive mayhem and who doesn't like to blow $#!T up with 2 pow16 powder bombs!
