    Default Kraye by Marike Reimer

Kraye was my favorite caster in MK I so I thought I would use him for GenCon 2010 so I commissioned this piece from Marike Reimer. All credit for modifications and paint go to her. Well, I ended up using Siege instead because she did such a good job that if anything happened to this model, I would cry.

Sorry for the delay to all the people that have asked me to post this. But better late than never.

Oh, that free hand on the armour is just amazing. She did a fantastic job on that model.

Wow this is stunning. The freehand on the armor is amazing and the texture on the horse's coat is a really nice touch.

Re-read the first sentence. He commissioned it. When you look at it from far away it looks nice. When you look at it close up it's amazing. The detail on the armor and the texturing of the horse's coat are superb. The horse's eye may be the best part of all though. It looks real.

I had the privilege of attending one of her classes at GC'09. There was only about seven of us sitting at a table with her. Her work is absolutely amazing (and she's pretty easy on the eyes).

I found it funny that a piece you commissioned for tabletop play is now a display model, only because I wholeheartedly agree with you! Great model mrika, good job paying her WintersChill, and congrats on owning it.

The horse's eye and wood grain on the gun stock are exceptional.

Um, that might be one of the best models I've ever seen.

Has this not been submitted to PP's painting competition, and if so, why has it not won gold? You've painted HAIR on that horse, grain on that stock, and swans on that armor. The blending on the legs is insane.

How did you do the hair on the horse? Just tons of patience and a fine brush, or something more sane?

Edit: Sorry, missed the part you didn't paint it and it was commissioned, void questions on painting above. Insanely skilled paint job must have crossed wires in my brain and made me not read. Instead I ask, Dear god how much did that cost?

forgive him, he was blinded and confounded by beauty.

Did she sculpt the base too? One of the things I love, I know it's silly, is the cannonball dent in the rock. I think I have a new idol now.
I mean every time I look at this model I feel amazed that it's a tiny thing that some one PAINTED! Holy crap. The fur, sweat on the muzzle, the armor, the eye, the freehand and blending, the NMM.

The patterns are SWANS? Holy cow... your painter is a true artist. Easily one of the best miniatures I have seen, ever.

And good choice on making it a display piece. I'd be nervous just holding the thing, much less actually playing with it.

Having held this model (extremely carefully) in my grubby paws, let me say that even as good as these pics are, they still don't quite catch just how awesome this thing looks. It took me a little while to realize, staring at it from 3 inches away in bright light, that the swan patterns and horse hair AREN'T actually part of the sculpt. They're so well defined, you just expect them to be there dry-brushed on every other Kraye model you see. Bad news. Ain't there.

Nope, I didn't think to do that. Also, anything that she paints, I doubt I would ever field in a game.

I have another Kraye that I painted myself that I use on the table. I wouldn't even compare it to Marike's work.

I am also one of the lucky ones to have held and seen this model in person.

ya, I'm glad some pics of this finally got posted. It really is a gorgeous piece to hold, the pics barely show the delicacy of the freehand detailing. The pics also don't show the eyes that Mirika did on Kraye, they are just as mindblowing as the rest of it.

At least now that the model has moved to TX, I can still get some good reference shots from here to do my own Kraye.

A truly solid piece, the use of simple light free-hand over the entire piece, from the fur to the armor plates is glorious. The rich color of the horse, while different from the original intent (a white horse) is equally beautiful and the freehand fur texture adds a second layer. I had planned on making kraye my centerpiece as well since his miniature has such a powerful look to it, the simple feature of an outrider on horse with rifle and sword is so simple yet powerful and beautiful by itself.

I give my thanks to the artist for showing me something about the model that I will hope to equally emphasize when I paint mine.

My apologies, I didn't notice the level of detail to the freehand painting. That is an incredible attention to the detail, painting fur on the animal is pretty nuts.

This is one beautiful paint job. Makes my shoddy Kraye look over the edge and into the vat of de-painter, Mr. Clean style.

Very nice detail on the armor. Love it. Envy it. Got any blogs on how you worked in such fine detail? Or where you came up with the pattern for that matter.
