Default Basilisk Krea Animus vs. Arcane Assassin

When making attacks, models with Arcane Assassin "ignore ... spell effects adding to its ARM or DEF."

The Basilisk Krea's Animus Paralytic Aura grants +2 DEF and +2 ARM against ranged attacks.

If I understand this correctly, a model with the Arcane Assassin rule would ignore the Paralytic Aura bonus if a Warlock were to cast it as a spell, but would not ignore the effect if the Krea or Cyclops Shaman were forced to use it as their Animus.

    Is this correct?

Yes, that would be correct, since an animus used by the warbeast itself is not a spell, while it is a spell when cast by the warlock.
