    Default Wracks and converting

Has anyone else used chain for model ship anchors to replace the pseudo chains on these models?

I just tried this on my first wrack and it looks awesome...

I will post pictures if possible but wondering if this is a new idea or has been pulled off before.

I considered replacing the chains, but decided against it as there is so much sculpted chain on the wrack's frame that i didn't want it to look like the chain changed on the dangly bits. Did you manage to get chain that matched that already sculpted on the model?

Edit: Heh, same city, different continent .

Yes I did, as I said in the original post it is a brass anchor chain that I found that matches the sculpted chain very well...

I will post the size and a picture of the transition, I made the transition at the two pivot points before the chains went through the rings. I even drilled out part and cut one link at 3/4 so it went into the opposing link. Looks Great.

I have changed out the chains on the Racks and on Harby. I think they look much better. I have heard that someone used chain on Amon also. It was laid out and spot welded at each link to make the circle around him. When I get around to my Menoth again I may do that also.

Now THAT is dedication to the hobby! I'd love to see pics of it if anyone could track down the guy that did this. I'm sure it looks absolutely amazing.

Yeah, but the chain that comes with Amon already looks badass and it is sturdy as hell.

Nice work on the Wrack above -- getting those damn things assembled damn near drove me insane.

Snapshot, those are AWESOME! I hope mine come out equally as nice but I will not be making the elaborate bases like yours. It definitely makes the models stand out.

Anyone have info on what chain to use and where to get it, or a link? My poor wracks lie unloved without danglies.

I found 14 link per inch model ship chain to match pretty good. I drilled and made the transition on the round pulley. I then trimmed the links to make a virtually seamless transition at this point. It could have also replaced all the chain but figured this was an acceptable substitution.

Check your local hobby store that sells wooden ships and you should be able to find brass chain for anchors.

Thanks for the response. I don't have Harby yet but are the chains the same size?

I have done it too, though only on one wrack. I also posed it at a tilt like the picture in escalation.

As for how, The loops on the censors where cut off and replaced with paper clip loops that were put through the last chain link then glued and greenstuffed in place.

A Dremel helps to take the fake chain off of the back.

The chain I used was cheap stuff from a craft store in the make your own jewelry area. For a couple of bucks I got enough to do about a dozen of these things.

Thank you! Yeah, I got a little obsessive with them. I figured if they caused fear, I really wanted them to reflect that. It's pretty fun to plop them down on the table and watch my opponent's jaw drop.

    Have you finished yours yet?
