Question on Theme Forces and localities

O.K., so I have a question. I've seen occasionally on these forums people posting stuff like "At my local store, we've decided to use theme forces" or such. What I'm wondering is if they are stores/groups that actually require theme forces. At all the stores I've played at, theme forces are allowed of course, but outside of maybe a few tournaments, not required. Is this not the case everywhere? I'm just curious, because I thought theme forces were meant to supplement the existing options, not replace them.

The simple answer is that it depends on the gamers at each group. At my LGS, we tend to try out the Theme forces at least a few times with every caster. But it certainly is not a requirement.

at my shop i'm the only person who regularly uses a theme force. (Harbinger) aside from that one list, theme forces are never seen. probably because all the players at the shop, including me, are the evil competitive players that the other folks dislike.

My LGS doesn't require them, which is good since many of them are ...odd.

We had a tournament that required the lists to be theme which was fun but the themes just add to the game they don't replace the game.

I almost always try to run themes with the exception of the dwarves. I love theme lists though they are fun.

We don't require them, but we do occasionally run Tier Tournaments that require Tier lists.

Personally, I run Tier lists a decent amount of the time but it depends on the caster. Not all Tier lists are that good compared to a normal unrestricted list, and some are reasonable good only at certain Tier levels. Most casters can at least get to Tier 1 without too much trouble if you need them to but higher Tiers often require fielding a lot of models you don't necessarily want to take. However, a lot of them are fun and effective too.

My LGS will be starting a League that will be requiring theme forces starting in March, but this will be the first time I'm aware of anyone talking about requiring a Theme force.
