New League Card Idea - Black Dragons

Just a reminder...it is now June 1 and Lock & Load is just a little over two weeks away. For any of you going to Lock & Load please try to make the Black Dragons a reality. Again, our goal is to get them made into league models in the short term and possibly (hopefully) a permanent part of the game in the long term.

...and now i have a reason to look into IFP. I prefer to run very flavor-heavy lists, and i love the Old Witch. these guys seems like they could almost make up her elite bodyguards.

I love using the IFP! My colors are more of a red/black though, but I love the fluff on the Black Dragons, and I'd have painted them using this scheme had I known of it beforehand. o:

I REALLY hope they make it into the game at some point. It would be awesome. Regular IFP are pretty cool but Kayazy, WGI and Great Bears feel like better choices more often than not.

I'm a fan of an IFP character unit. Though I think they should come from PP with brass rods. I just finished my min. unit with 'rods and I'm not looking forward to doing even 4 more.

Hey know thats not truly a fair comparison. They are exploding pikes!

Fluff wise tho they are descendants of bear fighters, when warjacks first came around they adapted the tactics that they learned from fighting a superior foe to the warjack so that a squad of men could destroy it instead of investing in more warjacks or heavy artillery. Now guys that wear twice as much armor as the average joe and can move in it completely unrestricted is a tough son of a gun, give the guy a taste of vengeance and its got a lot of potential.

also, if you think about it taking an infantry unit, even an awesome one, against a 13-foot high steel and steam monstrosity...yeah, you're going to lose some guys.

Thats true, although the initial concept behind the Iron Fangs in general was never to go one on one against anything. It very much is a team effort which is why there is a strong Brotherhood between all of the Iron Fangs. When masses of the units are wiped out the High Kommand will dissolve that unit and reform several into a new unit. Well the Brotherhood feeling is so strong in these guys that they refuse to leave and wear black as a symbol of mourning for their lost Brother in Arms. They wear the Immorean Symbol of death as a warning to their enemies and they fight in silence, which even unnerves their fellow Khadoreans that fight alongside them in battle.

I don't see that happening, with the feedback from the community on the desire for that unit I can only see it helping. Out of all of the Khador cards that were created, this is the winner. That can only be a good thing

Holy....... That is ridiculous as hell! I can now take two units of infantry, put IFP in a shield wall line in front of Kayazy, put them all b2b, and not a single one of them will suffer blast damage...

It's already happened; we had a League Black Dragon UA for the IFP. I think it granted Vengeance and Girded?

Exactly, with some luck hopefully they'll mention the Black Dragons in the new Guts & Gears article thats coming out.

I doubt that we will see anything come out in this years release if PP decides to put out the actual models - but next years maybe? Although, i've heard that PP plans ahead for 5 years at a time

You never know. With the preview of LVlad (so I'm assuming another expansion book next year) it would be easier for PP to release a Black Dragon IFP unit upgrade kit (custom shields and a new standard) than to release a completely new unit that we don't really need. I'm guessing LVlad's going to be all about the IFP and uhlans, so thematically it would fit.

Or maybe I'm just a naive fool.

I actually used the league card in a friendly game and now I can't go back to the real one. It makes them more survivable outside of shieldwall and more offensively focused. I hope like he11 that when they do finally release the real deal that it functions like this. Though adding band of brothers (that thing that knights exemplar have) would be a very welcome change as well.

Hey, where are you guys getting your brass rod, what size, and how much? I just grabbed some Chaos Warriors dirt cheap im gonna convert to a unit of black dragons. I think the drab look and tattered cloaks fit them well.

Well guys I think that we can chalk this as a win-win. Thank you for all of the support that you guys have shown for this campaign. This is just another reason why Privateer Press stands head and shoulders above the other competition because they actually listen to their fanbase. Also since PP originally came up with the idea for Black Dragons and published a small article in No Quarter #1, probably didn't hurt things either

And now without further adue - a semi-cryptic spoiler - Enjoy!

Oh, it is! I have seen the new NQ, and it's a valid, tournament legal Black Dragon Iron Fang Pikemen Officer and Standard Unit Attachment. It has the same stats as the normal UA, with the following exceptions:

Officer:
Tactics: Precision strike (just like the Great Bears)
Minifeat: Iron Zeal -- for one round, the unit gains +4 armor and cannot be knocked down or made stationary.

Standard:
Inspiration: This unit never flees and always rallies.

Apparently it's coming out as a blister upgrade option with a new shield and banner. Check out BattleCollege for a more complete run-down.

P.S. And for the future, I just happen to have a guy photoshopping what the Uhlans would look like if they were done in the Black Dragon scheme - another league card perhaps? Only time will tell
