Default What is it about the Protectorate?

Ok guys, this is getting ridiculous. This will be my 4th time playing the Protectorate. 4th! When I started playing, it was protectorate. Then when the scene died, off to ebay they went. A year or so later, I found a play group, and came back to the good ol' zealots. Interests strayed, and I dropped them again. Then the MKII field test rolled around, and things were looking great, so I bought in, ONCE AGAIN! After awhile, I felt I needed to trim factions, and the elves were really working for me. So dropped again. Luckily I didn't sell everything, so this will be slightly more cost effective than in the past.

But seriously, with all the fantastic new models that the Protectorate is getting, i can't resist... So yeah, this post is kinda pointless, but I'm back. I will now be refering to this faction as crack. The habit you just can't shake.

There are two types of people in Immoren: Menites and charred corpses.

Which would you prefer to be?

Methinks you should be less capricious with your factions, then it can't come back to bite you. Shelf them, but god, don't sell them.

It's alright to sell your stuff.

    Just don't sell Protectorate stuff.

I started with cryx, then dumped it because... well... you don't really want to know.

Then I started khador, which I really enjoyed playing in mk1.

Then MK2 came around, and I just don't feel the connection to any of my khador models, so whether I like it or not, I have to rebuild my force.

Sometime along the line, I started really liking the knights/paladins of the protectorate, so I bought a few. I hardly ever played them in mk1, cause playing without zealots/idrians (which i loathe) was just shooting yourself in the foot.

Now with MK2 around the wheels have turned, knights/paladins protectorate is great, and my khador army is meh. (greylords, mortars costing too much)

I'll get back to khador at some point, if only so I can play thor+basher. But also cause I actually really like the new winterguard.

One of the funny parts to me is reading back-to-back reports on a given model about how broken it is and then about how it's not worth anywhere near its cost.

I completely agree NSE. I might play other factions and go back and forth. But I never sell my armies.

Oh, I've certainly learned my lesson there. Now, this is over the course of 3 or so years, mind you. But yeah, I'm glad I help onto the majority of my stuff this time around.

I started with Protectorate about 5 years ago, and currently have at least one of everything one can have in the faction. Huge fan. Then one day there were a few of us talking about Cygnar and a Trencher themed list. I built the Brick, and ended up with at least one of everything one can have with Cygnar. About a year later, I started thinking Khador, mostly wanting to paint (it was the Supreme Kommandant Irusk model). I am still building that army, but the theme I ended up following was "Everything pokey-stick", so Uhlans, IFP, and Markov. Some may have seen the "Dog and Pony Show" list, though I started off wanting to building on an Old Witch/ Vlad theme. Along the way I amassed quite the collection of Mercenaries and went all in on the Privateers, and can comfortably field any of the Mercenary contracts. More recently I picked up Circle and Trollbloods (both with themes in mind).

I haven't sold off any of it. I watched local players get tired of an army, only to buy back into it about a year later, and curse themselves for selling off.

The Protectorate is still my favorite faction, followed closely by Mercenaries. Khador and Cygnar give me a different look at the Iron Kingdoms. A change of pace is always nice, especially in painting the models.

Plus, when I am playing one faction, the others get to make a visit to the painting desk.

Crack?? I don't know what you are talking about. I am just glad I can keep up with the releases and not have to buy back up to that point.
