I've started painting these a couple of weeks ago...
I can hardly wait until I've painted up some more figs so I can get a game in (currently I have only 3 points painted)

Freebooter
Group-hug!
Not 100% happy with the bases yet, but as these were my first attempts I don't worry too much.
Further bases, the jetty will be lower, and I'm well aware that the jetties need some more details, like buckets, wooden barrels, crates, fishing nets,... as they are a bit bland at the moment.
Now I just need to figure out just how/where I will be doing/buying that kind of details
Looks great overall! Though, one point of criticism would be the warjacks' legs; they look rather nobbly kneed, with their feet pointing inwards (though not too big a deal). Otherwise, excellent, especially considering it's your first attempt at those bases!

Looking good so far, love your bases! Have you thought about adding some corrosion/verdigris to the brass sections on your jacks?

Thanks for that feedback guys!
BONEchiken, first attempt @ that kind of bases, not first attempt at painting
The Freebooter's legs are straight, honest! True, his body is crooked vs the legs, but that was to get a sense of movement, getting ready fer a left hook, with both his feet on the ground.
The Buccaneer however, I see the problem, you guys are absolutely right, but my main problem would be breaking up a painted fig, which would most probably ruin the walkway...
I'll see if I can... ehrm... cover that up once I've found a couple of barrels or crates or something.
BklynBrewtality, you've given me an idea there!
I'll see wether I can pull it of to, when I buy a Mariner, have him stand with his feet in the water (maybe up to his knees) amidst the remains of a collapsed jetty. Should look funny as hell!
Do notice I said "When I buy", not "If I buy"...
Mugu, I actually had to look up verdigris in a dictionary *blush*
I have already added rusty colours to all bare metals, but it is true that it doesn't really show on the brass colours I've used.
Next time I pass a store that holds MIG pigments (with a bit of luck, that'd be this very weekend), I'll check wether there's any green(ish) verdigreen pigments available. Very good idea, thanks for that!
Why are they all standing on tables though?

the look good, I love the water. Also, the piers they are standing on looks great. I've been basing my Legion beasts and locks on big rock bases and it's fun to have your models an inch taller than your opponents.
No problem, not everyone knows. I (and a lot of folks, I think) make a verdigris wash out of Vallejo jade green and water (about a 1 to 10 ratio, I think). I'm jealous of you for being able to use MIG pigments - I've seen how nice they are when folks use them, but I've not made the attempt yet. Here's one of my first Cryx warjacks i did when i was still testing out verdigris:
but now're days I use it more sparringly, such as here:
Please pay no attention to how bad the rest of the paint jobs are. :P
In any case, its fairly easy to make your own and keep it in a spare bottle if you have one. Good luck and keep your great looking models coming!

My Menoth paint scheme calls for aged copper. For my test mini (and the ones to come!), I had a couple tubes of Rub-N-Buff Patina on hand, so I tried that as my verdigris. I apply it according to package directions, but I make sure to wipe as much as possible off of all areas that would be easily polished, but left it in the cracks. It turned out wonderfully. I might post pics when I get the chance.

Two things: the Buccaneer has some REALLY noticeable mold lines on his legs, and I don't understand why the jacks are firing candy corn out of their smokestacks.
Other than that, looking good!
"Shhh. Before you talk with the Chief, you must party with the Chief."
Great work - and I think you may have fully painted more in your first go, then I have in 7 years
Really like the metal work, and you've done some nice shading.
The only critisism I would give, is the same as PG_CG, the Fire Effects coming from the stacks make them look a bit more like candles then flames bellowing from within.
I think those are from armor cast, correct? I believe they also make smoke for just such an occassion![]()
I think the models look great, the bases are pretty sweet, but the "flames" coming from the jacks need to be less Afterburner and more smokey with a bit of back fire now and again.
You don't kill models in eStryker's army, you simply open up charge lanes.
Til the day we die
Theroy Machine is silly and you're silly for believing it.
Once again, thanks for all those feedbacks!
Mugu, that Vallejo Jade Green wash looks ace! in the second piccie. In the first one you overdid itAnd I love the way your Jack's emerging from the water... Suprise!!!!
I can't use that technique on these figs though... there's already rust pigments over the copper, and applying a wash would mingle the pigments (and they are very strong and dominant when mixed with other colours, I've had bad experiences before) with the wash. So I'll have to find me a green pigment somewhere.
For future figs however, I can do it if I remember to apply the wash before the pigments.
Lankira, I'm interested. Is Rub-N-Buff the brand? Doesn't sound familiar, so I doubt it'll be available in Belgium. If you could provide me with a piccie, or a link to a piccie, so I know what I'm looking for, I'd be very grateful!
Cloud-Gatherer, Justin Kase, fire4effekt, I get the message!
I'll see if I can remedy the candy-feel of those flames. I'll start by adding some black in there, and let the yellows, oranges and reds flow into each-other some more.
I had based these flames on the flames you see on the Menoth Battle Group boxed set.
True, they end in smoke, but they clearly have an afterburner feel to them...
They are from the company MaxMini by the way, they are the exhaust flames that come with their Jump Packs, but like everything @ MaxMini, you can tailor your order entirely, up to single parts out of complete sets.
As for the moldlines, shame on mebut I'm not going to file 'em off now the fig's been painted...
Because I can!
And, because of the reasons I stated in between the pictures. It's in those little black symbols you see with spacings and stuff like . , ; ! ? (those are called punctuations) in between, they're words formed out of letters. Put them together and they make sense.
And the sense they make explain what those tables actually are.
I'll leave the joy of discovering the true meaning of the tables for yourself.
I completely fail to understand what you're saying there. I'm old, and L33T flies straight over my head without connecting...
I had almost forgotten about them !
The place I was thinking of is armorcast, and they have some cinematic effects that are pretty cool.

Much better than I could do. Though, from a fluff standpoint I am not sure I like the flame coming out of the tops since their boilers are supposed to be shielded.... smoke yes but it looks like fire. But still, again, much better than what I can currently do and very nice looking.
Playing like you've got a pair has nothing to do with what the models can do and has everything to do with what you can do with the models.
When a Titan comes along, you must whip it.If you have a Rhinodon, you must whip it.
Here it is at D. Blick. You may be able to find something similar in the faux finishing section of your local craft stores.
Basically, it's a wax-type paste that you rub into the cracks and crevices, you let it dry, and then, on the colors that you want to have shiny, you buff it shiny (I didn't for the patina, as patina isn't shiny) with a dry cloth. It's a little messy, but super quick and easy.

Oh, see, there's your problem. "Exhaust flames" from a jump pack are supposed to be providing thrust - the exhaust from a jack's furnace ideally would not do that, since it would just pin the thing to the ground.![]()
"Shhh. Before you talk with the Chief, you must party with the Chief."
OK, tell you what.
I'm really not eager to go and tweak models I've finished painting, especially when I'm going to do something new, like modelling smoke to those flames.
I'll await the moment I buy my next Jack, and then experiment with exhaust-flames for that one, not glueing them in place.
Once I've found something that works, I'll have the know-whats, and can return to these figs here.
Sound like a deal?
And thanks Lankira, I'll try and find something similar here
@Quase - If it helps any, while I don't care for the type of flames you're using, I don't think they're as bad as the folks about are making them out to be. I can definately see a jack putting on a surge of power and shooting some flame temporarily out of its stack. Lastly, if you like it, then keep it - they're yours after all. Good luck and please keep posting, I really like your minis.

Cheers for that!
But I am also always looking for ways to improve myself.
And if I get constructive feedback/criticism, then I find it hard to ignore, especially since that means that someone took the time and effort to give the said feedback.
Like for instance, I didn't know Jacks' boilers are shielded...
In any case, thanks for the votes of confidence.
And I hope to finish my Deck Gun crew this very weekend, so you'll get an update soon enough![]()
Yeah man - if you like them, that is all that really mattersJust giving you some other ideas to stir that creative pot.
As I said in my first post, you've almost painted more in your first batch than I have in 7+ yearsFor that alone, I take my hat off to you!
Lol - it's going to depress me, isn't it ;P
I'm afraid so...
In the meantime, I've finished my Sea Dog Deck Gun....
And a group-shot of the whole gang up until now :
Now, since I still have a distinct lack of Pirates in my army, avast! Onwards and forwards to the painting of a Pressganger unit!
Do I see little koi in the water in those bases? If so, how do you do that? I have an idea for a diorama now.

Yes, those are fishes...
Koi-like in colours, definately, but I mainly used those particular colours (oranges, yellows and reds) to contrast with the deep blue from the water.
The fishes are made from greenstuff...
Roll into little balls.
Then apply a gentle pressure on one side of the ball while you're rolling it to and fro in between two fingers so you get an egg-shape.
Put your fingers +/- in the half of the egg, a little more to the wide part (the head) and roll the egg to and fro whil your fingers move towards the narrow part.
Do this until you have a tear-shaped bit of greenstuff.
Press this down on the base, gently and with a wet tool (I use a "Colour Shaper" with a firm angle tip, supposed to be for mixing and moving paint around on canvas, but a dream when it comes to greenstuff-handling) on the side of the head.
You can then move the tail around to make a kind of S-shape, fixing it to the base as you're shaping it.
I don't do any more details than that, as the fished will be covered in water effects, and they'll be under the jetty anyways, so hardly visible unless you really look at them.
**edit**
as a matter of fact, I just started converting the bases for my Commodore Cannon yesterday. When I've finished adding the greenstuffed fishes, I'll take a picture so you can see what that looks like...

As promised, here's the piccie of my fishies, just before priming :
And I've got a question : I just started painting the pressganger with the lantern.
Had a small "WOW! What's that!" moment when I saw the rodent coming out of his coat pocket.
Never noticed that one before...
Anyone any idea what animal that represents?
That way I can google-image it to see which colours I should give the critter.
Many thanks!

No replies, so I decided for myself what the rodent should look like...
Here's my finished unit of Privateer Pressgangers :
Hope you guys like them...
Thanks!
In the meantime, I found an oxydation-pigment (Vallejo)which I applied to the bronze parts of the Jacks and the Deck Gun as you guys suggested...
Here's a piccie of the lot of Pirates I have painted up until now :

I've given my band of Pirates a treasurer, Lord RockBottom

I've finished painting Mr Walls, I still need to buy a unit of Pirates
And here are my newest expansions intermingled with those Pirates I already had ...
I hope you guys enjoyed that!
I just love this theme. Really working.
Thanks!
There's only one downside for this last update though...
I'm all out of WM Pirates
And that also means all of the retailers in my vicinity are all out of WM Pirates too LOL.
Oh well, I'll figure out a way of laying my hands on some more soon I guess...
Well,
I've just started to let it flow again (I got sidetracked by painting up a BloodBowl team for a member of my club and a Malifaux crew for myself)
And here's my newest adittion : a Nomad
Right now I'm thinking about how I'll make my second Nomad look more piratey than this one.
Whilst pondering on that question, I'm busy prepping 11 bases for my first unit of Sea Dogs.
But it'll probably be a while before my next update as I'll be flying to sunny Portugal on monday![]()
