Non-Dwarf Mercenary Condensed Tacticas

There are two reasons to use the Tactica's gathered here. The first is if you're interested in picking up a Mercenary army for the first time and want to know both if you should and what would best suit your interests. The second is if you want to add Mercenaries to an army you already have, be it a Merc army or one of the 'real' factions. The articles below should be pretty self explanatory but for the sake of the first group I'll try and outline some of the key elements of the Merc play style.

It's quite hard to nail down exactly what the Merc play style is as Mercs are first and foremost a diverse group. The Talion Charter under Shae plays very differently to Searforge Commission under Gorten. That having been said there are a few trends that apply to the majority of Merc armies. Firstly, Mercs are not a faction for you if you just want powerhouse warcasters and amazing character jacks (although this latter one might change with the release of Wrath). Merc warcasters are good, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, but they tend to be good all rounders with no one caster being picked out as the best caster in the game at X thing. This means that we tend to have fewer bad match ups but we also depend more on player skill. Our warjacks aren't the best in the game (there are no Death Jacks or Avatars here) but they're all around good. In fact, the best way to describe Mercs would probably be jack of all trades master of none. Other players may of course disagree with this assessment, and I shall aim to edit this paragraph to reflect their criticisms/suggestions. In any case, Mercs are fun, give 'em a go!

Re-did opening post and edited the formatting a bit. Will probably go through a few more edits before I'm happy with it. As always, feedback is greatly appreciated. I'm thinking I might re-do the structure to be more Warcaster/Warjack/Unit/Solos instead of by Contract since there's a lot of overlap between the various contracts.

While the people this is of interest too might just be mostly myself and Vytzka I have re-edited everything again. I changed the structure and stole the idea of putting up Tacticas that have yet to be written from the Menoth forum. I also re-wrote the opening in hopes of it being more helpful than my earlier filler (which was mostly written to amuse myself), as always feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated as are links to old tacticas.

Mael's piece about the Talon chapter in general does cover the Talion units and solos pretty extensively, so you could just put the general link to the specific entries. If someday, someone writes something better and/or more specific, you could still enter a second link to the entry, I guess.
And, if someone is completely new to the game, and wants to find out about one of them, he might not be savvy enough to click on the general article, so I think it would be a good idea, too.

Same is true, afai remember for the general Steelhead article and at least Stannis Brocker and the Piper.

You probably should also make entries for Longgunners, Gun Mage Strike Force, Trenchers and Idryan Skirmishers, and for the available lesser Warlocks. There is quite a number of solos missing, too.

It's why I did the Talon. Figured it'd be pretty straight forward. Working on an Alexia one as you may see now. Finally found an old write up of mine I've been looking for. Should have just google searched the forum for it to begin with.

I'll spend some time cleaning up the Talon Tactica again in the future. Next time I feel like working on it. What's up there didn't take too long. Though I put my usual level of "Look stuff up to make sure then post" and other crunching. Any criticism on the formatting would be useful to make it neater.

Btw for tacticas. What are the limits on stat posting? I'm trying to avoid but it's kinda hard not to go "And then you have a MaT 10 Pow 14+3d6 attack" at the end of trying to make a point.

I typically use those kind of stat listings in the tacticas I wrote. Though you can just say with a boost hits def 18 on average rolls etc. Which probably help more people understand them... maybe

Hey guys, just a heads up that my computer died a couple of weeks back so I've been having less regular access to the internet than previously. I've been play Ash now for a few games and must say having both Harlen and the Master Gunner open up with two Quad Irons on the feat turn is nasty. Good RAT's and the feat giving extra dice its impressive what the two can do. Also go for double powder ration and you extend the range to. For 4pts I think the duo is a great addition for her.
