Default Dealing with Bane * and eGaspy

    Hey all,

I play with a group of friends and one of them has begun to use a 25pt list led by eGaspy and the rest of us have had trouble dealing with it. He runs:

    eGaspy
    Bane Knights
    Bane Thralls
    Bane Lord Tartarsauce
    Deathjack

I played with pButch, wardog, full squad of IFP with UA, widowmakers, juggy and destroyer. I ended up winning because it was only his third game and he didn't know the wardog gave the butcher +2 DEF but that won't happen again.

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck against a list like this, with any faction (we have one of each in the group). I realize that I could probably power game my way to a victory against it but I want to avoid that arms race.

High DEF. Except for Tartarus's Curse, eGaspy doesn't have any way to boost attack rolls and all those troops he brings back on the feat turn still have to hit.

WGI or Assassins with Iron Flesh will give him problems.

having a wall of dudes in front of your caster also stops the run. WGI works great.

not if they have ghostly. unless of course you surround your caster completely, but then that creates its own problems.

Ghostly doesn't ignore models for movement (just obstructions) so they can't just walk through your models (or their own). Ghostly models do get to ignore freestrikes so they could walk around your troops.

Incorporeal does let you advance through models, but the incorporeal model requires LOS to charge so if you put a wall of models between your caster and the incorporeal models it can prevent the charge until LOS is cleared out to your caster.

Generally speaking (read the small print, there are exceptions to every rule), Cryx infantry have problem dealing with high DEF targets, so taking high DEF units (Iron Fangs, Great Bears, WG, Assassins, Nyss Hunters etc') and buffing their DEF even higher is usually a good idea.

That and you don't need to protect 360 on the model, just the exposed front half. Since I'm finding myself using a pair of destroyers often, they make a heck of a shield against this kinda attack.

As for deathjack, it just needs to be wrecked outright. There's no real way to avoid or dodge that thing at all.

would probably work now since your opponent is new. But once he learns how to explode bile thralls from 20" away. All your def 30 low arm models die in 1-2 purges.

From a post on the Cryx forums:

Teleport back if needed, then walk the Bile Thrall forward and purge all over your intended target. It's a little hard to describe, but basically it gives your Bile Thralls a huge threat range, and makes it much easier for them to get to where they need to be.

Classic theorymachine. Not saying that it can't work, but a lot of factors work against this tactic.
    1. Against high DEF models in Iron Flesh, eAsphyxious needs to boost attack rolls and even then he has ~50% of hitting.
    2. Boosting Excarnate costs 4 focus, more than 50% of eAsphyxious' total.
    3. Rough terrain and line of sight problems will also limit this trick's effectiveness.

Bottom line: under a very restrictive set of conditions, one Bile Thrall can have a threat range of 20". Cryx have much better option for dealing with high DEF models.

Thankfully, we are quite capable to tearing 'dat ****' up. The problem is that it will likely have something else for breakfast first.

Also: High def infantry is fine and all but doesnt eGaspy have the ability to plop 4 autodamage clouds on your dudes?

I like ESorscha against EGaspy, she has Iron flesh which is good as everyone here already told you. But she also has shatterstorm and this spell is golden against EGaspy, it is golden because it allow you to remove model from play, once a model has been removed it cannot come back on EGaspy's feat, if you can kill tartarus with a model/unit that has shatterstorm, EGaspy's feat become much less scarry.

WGI are tough when you need them to be, which is one of the only defenses available to us to use against a cloud like that.

But that also means he has bile thralls in his eGaspy list. I'd trade those points for something else he could be taking.

Yes but you have to move into or through them. If he places them on top of your dudes, you can move out of them on your turn. They are powerful no doubt but they aren't an auto-kill.

Old Witch and Sorcsha2 are also good vs eGaspy.

    Reasons:
    Both have Iron Flesh.

Both are good at dealing with infrantry heavy lists.

Old Witch's feat prevents charging (and many other things). This nulls eGaspy's feat as the models that he brings back must charge.

Old With's battlegroup also ignores cloud effects.

Sorscha2's spell Shatter Storm removes models from play (RFP). RFP models can't come back on the board so you can limit how effective his feat will be. Plus it's an easy spell to cast on two units a turn (upkeep, the recast. Rinse & Repeat every turn).
