    Default Hero Mode!

I was contemplating Warcasters and Warlocks one day when I had a glimpse of inspiration for a fun game mode. I thought I'd jot these down and see what you guys think.

    Hero Mode!

    Caster Player:

    1 Warcaster
Their WJ/WB points plus 6 worth of Jacks/beasts. Character Warnouns may only be fielded with their "bonded" Caster (IE, Megalith with Baldur, Thorn with Haley etc...). The Big 4 Apotheosis jacks may not be fielded.

    OpFor Player:

25 Points of anything, without a Warcaster.

    Special Rules:

Hero Mode! Warcasters are always assumed to have their maximum Focus for the purposes of Overboosted Power Fields. Warlocks gain the ability to transfer one attack per round to nothing, negating the attack without dealing damage to their beasts.

Entrenched Position! The OpFor player may place 3/4 of the terrain to be used on the table in their advantage. Terrain must be placed in such a way that there are at least 2 gaps available to the objective large enough for a large base to pass through comfortably. (IE 3" spacing in two places on a solid wall, forests etc...) In addition, all units fielded by the OpFor gain Advance Move if they do not have it or Advance Deployment already.

    Game Rules!

    Type 1: Smash and Grab!
14" Hero deployment area. 10" OpFor deployment area.

Both Players designate an objective marker. The OpFor players objective is to protect the objective marker from the WarNouns for d3+2 turns.

The Hero Player must move either a Warjack/beast or his caster into b2b contact with the marker for one entire round. If the Hero is successful, they win. If the game ends before one round elapses, but the Hero Player has a model in contact with the objective it is a draw.

If the OpFor player successfully keeps the Hero character from making contact with the marker, OpFor is victorious.

What do you guys think? I've got a few more ideas I'm mulling around as well.

Jacks fielded by the OpFor player must be martialed. In the case of Cryx/Menoth, Jacks may be played as though martialed, meaning they have one free boost per turn, but they do not need to maintain coherency with any particular model.

interesting concept, but there is a slight problem, with a guaranteed full focus camp every turn, the Warcaster is just too powerful, certain Warcasters would be completely invincible. (Terminus, Karchev, Venethrax, Butcher...etc) and the others would have too high of DEF to reliably hit and still be able to put damage down. usually the only reason why players are able to break the FOCUS camp is because there is a Warcaster on the other side of the table to help and boost damage and hit rolls and buff/debuff units.

or the opposing player would have to use Eiryss. (or Thrullg, but he is much less reliable) and hope for that magical focus-stripping hit.

dealing with Warlocks would be much easier because their resources are much more limited with just 1 or 2 beasts and 1 free transfer. at least you can put some damage down on them or cripple (or kill) them with the 25 point force.

interesting concept though. you might want to Banish eDeneghra and Terminus from this Scenario, incorporeal/flying breaks the scenario completely.

Think of pvlad under Blood of Kings and full focus still.

I play Khador, Minions, and soon to be Convergence of Cyriss.

So for those of us new to the game, who are the "Big 4 Apotheosis jacks"?

Makes sense. I figured Thunderhead and Deathjack were two, but I'm still kind of fuzzy on Menoth and Khador.

@Duckboy, @Kolonelk, that right, the Big 4 are the Avatar, the Deathjack, the Thunderhead and the Behemoth.

Yeah the over boost would make certain casters bonkers. I'm looking at you Vlad! lol. How come Hordes gets their character heavy hitters but Warmachine doesn't? Just out of curiosity.

probably because 1 free transfer is not nearly as powerful as a full focus camp for free...

Vlad with full focus camp becomes
16+3+7= 26 arm casterwith 18 Def, hitting like crapton of bricks
    Karchev have 26-27 arm
Yes this thing seems to suit Khador(no complaint, I play Khador)
    Bucther have 24 ARM
so to even begin hurting Khador caster you need... more than 13 P+S(Unboosted) you also need to hit....
I will go and Try this thing with my pVlad

OpFor Menoth list, then. 25 points you say?

    Reckoner
    Reckoner
    Dervish
    Min Choir
    Vassal
    Menofixer

    Have fun!

*note: the jack marshal thing is too powerful for Cryx and Menoth because they basically get a powerful rule for free. I recommend making that the standard rule for everyone and the Jack Marshals taken by the other factions allow you to make an additional boosted attack or damage roll or whatzit.

*note2: does this disallow the Journeyman Warcaster?
