    Default Goaliejack

So I was watching the Canucks game tonight, and I happened to notice that a stray Avalancher was sitting in front of the TV, looking kind of like a goalie. OK, it didn't really look much like a goalie, but I've currently got a migraine and I was squinting at the time due to light sensitivity. Anyway, it gave me an idea. I have to make a Goaliejack.

I decided that a Talon would become my Goaliejack. I decided on the Talon rather than the Avalancher that originally inspired me in part because I only have one Avalancher, while I have a surplus of Talons, and in part because I figured the spear could easily be turned into a goalie stick.

Now, I know my greenstuff skills aren't really up to this task, but I don't care, I'm doing it anyway. This is my progress so far:

I need to wait for the greenstuff to cure more before doing anything else. I think the pads look decent (aside from that tiny greenstuff ball on one of them that I didn't notice until after I took the picture, and then had to carefully remove), and the blocker will be OK, but I'm not very happy with the glove. I'm hoping that once it's cured I can do a little carving etc to improve it. I'm also going to have to carefully plan how to sculpt the mask.

Looks like he is already wearing a goalie mask.

    Lol that is AWESOME.

Just make sure everytime you move him in a game everyone says, "Loooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuu!"

Yeah, but I want to sculpt it to make it look more like this:

That's certainly the plan, although I am concerned that any American viewers (and commentators) of my games will get confused and think that I'm booing.*

Also, I realized that it was stupid of me to try to sculpt his stick out of greenstuff - I should cut plasticard to the proper shape instead. I'm going to do that tonight and post an update.

I think a Cygnar 'jack head (Charger maybe?) would look closer to a goalie mask.

Not sure how your creation is going to pull off "the butterfly" btw.

BTW, will he be wearing skates?

Oh, and just a warning, if this is supposed to be a luongo 'jack, it'll never stop anything !

    What...

I thought about cutting the legs off and doing some major repositioning for the butterfly, but it just seemed like too much work, and something that I would be likely to muck up badly.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do skates. I think I'll just attach blades to the bottom of the feet.

Oh, and I see somebody missed last night's highlight reel...

OK, here's an updated shot. I did the smart thing and used plasticard for the stick instead of the greenstuff stick that I had started, filed down the trapper a little (I'm still not happy with it, but I knew that it was going to be the thing I was least happy with anyway), gave him a greenstuff mask (not exactly the proportions I would like, but it'll give me a good surface to try to paint Luongo's mask on), gave him skates, and assembled it all.

Awesome conversion, but the (prospective) paint job is all wrong! You gotta paint him up like Captain Kirk!

I'd hate to have that thing go all Gary Smith on me - talk about a hack job.

I sent this to a friend of mine who, while she is not a mini gamer, is a rabid Houston Aeros fan. She got a huge laugh out of it, and I am pleased!

Well, good old Captain Kirk would definitely be a good choice (he was the main man when I first started watching hockey), as would Corey Hirsch (just because I always loved his mask - as a player he was just a decent backup), or Schneider (I'm absolutely loving him, and I hope we can keep him for a long time), but it's playoffs, and I've got to support our go-to goalie.

I'm undercoating tonight, and hope to have Goaliejack Luongo painted up in time for the next round!

    Some proposed rules for you:

"Loooouu": Anytime goalie-jack activates, even if it doesn't move or actually do anything at all every friendly model in LOS becomes Fearless for one turn.

"Gamesmanship": Anytime any enemy model moves within 2" of goalie-jack, goalie-jack is immediately Knocked Down.

You need to add the penalty part:
"Gamesmanship": Anytime an enemy model advances and ends its movement within 2" of goalie-jack, goalie-jack is immediately Knocked Down and the enemy models activation immediately ends.

Just in time for tonight's series opener, I give you... Goaliejack Luongo!

Now, to be honest, I really rushed the paintjob on this guy, because I'd been procrastinating for a long time, but I really wanted to have him painted before the finals started. In general I wish I had done a better job on the freehand (I was having difficulty getting the right consistency of paint, for one thing, and I was screwing up a lot and having to paint over my mistakes), and in particular I wish I'd been able to do a better job on the Johnny Canuck on his mask. It's not really recognizable at all...

    Oh well, it'll do.

Now if only it stopped things like Luongo does.

Then again, if it did at 4 points, no one would ever take any other light.

Make sure to model a heavy jack painted up like Chara standing in front of it screening him...

I thought about doing up an opposing Goaliejack Thomas, but after tonight I guess I'd have to have him poised on the edge of a diving board...

You could put it next to the diving sedin model and another one biting a guys finger...

Yeah, but then I'd have to model up one that was inexplicably shoving his finger into that one's mouth... Or maybe one that was delivering 9 crosschecks in a row. Actually, if I could figure out a way to actually build a jack with a mechanism that gave it super crosschecking action, that would be pretty freaking sweet If I could figure that out, however, it would probably be better put to use on a Marauder.
