Oh two brush blending how I hate you.... Ghool my paint keeps drying like.. instantly. What am I doing wrong? Only happens with some paints, but when it does holy crap does it ruin my life. Sometimes it also leaves like a really crappy 'stain' of where the initial daub of paint hit the model.

And lastly, I notice all your stuff is really .. I want to call it 'edged' or black lined... I want to do it.. please advise.

I will make every effort to be at your painting class.

Emphasis mine. Try and make it. Not only will you get a Gudrun the Wanderer (and well-painted), you will improve your skills much more than me just sitting down and showing you. I'll be hanging over everyone's shoulder, we'll all be working with the same colours, and I'll be right there to give pointers as you're working.

I'll be painting this weekend and next, working on my NQ commissions and Stormwall, so come and watch...again.

It's tough for me to say what's happening with your paint, as there's a lot of things to factor in:

    The climate is really dry
The paint might be too thick/thin
You might be working too slow
Your second brush might be too dry

Most likely it's your paint consistency. I plan on giving a lot of time to the thinning of paint, and getting it the right consistency in the class.

I know it'll cost money and all that, but it's really the only way you can really get your hands dirty and dig in, rather than me just running a demo.

I'll be painting this Sunday, so when you show up, I'll make sure to work on some blending with you. Maybe bring a model and some brushes, so I can give you some actual instruction vs. just a demo.

My 'black-lining' is just making use of the shadows. Make sure your darkest shade is in the grooves, and crevices, and between breaks between differing surfaces. I do this whilst shading each surface, and it's not done afterwards. The key is brush control, and painting from the inside out. You also have to paint neater, and less messy as you move outwards on the model.

Are you using P3 paints for your 2 brush blending? The GW stuff doesn't work as good because their paint is dry pigment, compared to the liquid pigment of P3 (oh the things you learn from the pro's at LnL) Personally, i find some of the paints require a brush of water mixed in, but some work straight from the pot. I have 3-4 colors i've used straight from the pot with really good success.......Cryx Bane highlight is by far my favorite, as i don't need to mis water to it, and i've used it to highlight like a dozen or so different colors and they all turn out good.

Yeah, GW and Vallejo don't blend as good. This is why a lot of the pros using Vallejo will use glazing instead of a second brush.

Oh, and ALL paint needs to be thinned before applying it to the miniature....

If you are going to be coming to the painting class, please post that you are for sure coming in the local thread as soon as possible.

This is because I have to special order enough models for everyone. I need to know exact numbers as quickly as possible, as I'm not sure how long 7 - 10 Gudruns are going to take to get here.

    Thanks!

    Hey all,

So I have talked about this already with some of you, but I think we should form a gaming group.

Here's what I've got so far.

Membership fee, this way we can cover the cost of trophies and prize support etc for various tournaments.
A monthly newsletter to announce the various events happening within our group.

Any other ideas or feedback would be great!

I think that's fine, but then we'll have to have a place to play aside from the Sentry Box. I don't know of anyone's house that's able to hold up to 18 guys and their armies.

Unless we still use the venue, and just use membership fees to order trophies and such, and when we get a nice build up of cash, to rent a hall, and have a big tournament, or event weekend or something.

I do not care to be treasurer for this; some one else can handle the cash, and order swag.

I also might have to move the date of the painting class. I might move it to the first weekend of August, as I think there's a big MtG release event or something that weekend. I'll talk to the Sentry Box about it on Sunday.

I think we should call the gaming group S.I.D.S. Sudden Infant Dice Syndrome. And then make up an equally distatesfull shirt logo for when we travel.

I am down for a gaming club, as I said before the key is having multiple signors on the account and one person as 'treasurer'. Not sure what we'd do for membership fee. I believe Grots is 120$(so 10$ per month or something)

Not sure why we cant continue to use sentry box? Lots of other gaming groups do this, I still need to ask Greg about an evening key for thursdays.

Uses for the funds could be numerous, whether its paying for mike to make more tables, or to get more terrain build for the 'club' since Ghools terrain can't always be there, and sentry boxes isnt used by just us. Also prize support for tournies would come out of the monthly 'fee' so if we had a tournament non club members would pay 15$(assuming 10$ monthly fee) and members would play for 'free' We could still go through sentry box for the "prize support". Would require a decent starting number, with hopes of more growth, no point in a gaming group of 6 people. We'd have to bring it up, and not everyone that plays with us is on these forums very as often as some of us :P

I'd be down to pay $15 per month as that would leave us with a decent amount of cash to run the events we would like to. I'm all for multiple signors and a treasurer who should be Vynde cause he works at a bank

I can think of the potential list to begin with of.

    Myself
    Vynde
    usb
    King
    Teflon
    Ghool
    Bleed
Nick (he has no forum name yet)
    Grey
    Cowboy
James (no idea if he's on the forum)
    Andrew (same as above)

And like Vynde mentioned the other guys who are not on the forums

hm.. hadn't really counted it.. that is a decented amount of people haha.

I'm more then willing to get this off the ground. I would recommend against a 'monthly' fee because i wouldnt want to be chasing people for money every month.. maybe semi annual payment.

Key is getting everyone on board, and obviously a name.

I am in for the club. I would be willing to pay for 6 months up front and have to agree with Vyne that the money needs to be paid up front. There is nothing worse than chasing money after the fact. Good luck in getting this started as I do believe that their should be a club in Calgary. As for the amount, i am ok with up to $20 a month and anything less is ok with me. If you think about it $20 a month is only $5 dollars a weekend. But I will agree with whatever the group decides.

Good idea Cowboy $5 a weekend is really a good way to look at it and if we give everyone enough notice shouldn't be hard to save up $120 for the semi-annual fee.

I certainly wouldnt start it that high... I would likely start it at 10$ a month, and if we find we are short funds or the group wants to do more things then we would table the idea of raising it.

Yes, this. I don't have a lot of disposable income, and a $120 payment for prizes I never get to claim is a bit much.

I get PG points for running the events, but I personally think I should be exempt for playing in anything and winning prizes for it. That's the whole point of being a PG; to run stuff and promote the game and events. Not to play in those same events, and double-dipping on the prizes and PG points. I'll help build/paint the terrain and tables, and whatever else.

You also forgot Slippy, and even without me, that still puts the total at 12 guys at least. That'd make for $120 a month available for prize support, and other stuff. I think tables is something we should look into, as well as more terrain. Even if we just order the GF9 Battlefield in a Box stuff, we can get a fair chunk for 2 months worth of fees.

That would also allow us to get Steamroller trophies a couple times a year for tournaments, and still have a bunch left-over to run our own version of WMW.

Fair enough on the fee's wasn't sure, but starting at $10 per is the way to go. If we open up an account at your bank Vynde is there a way to get a break on bank fee's? As I figure most accounts will average $8 per month in fees alone.

I am usb, and I approve of this idea.

........Ahem..........With that being said, I don't like the idea of getting free entry to the tournaments. If we agree on $10/month then I would say $5 for members, for any tournament or event, and $10 to non members for events, and $15 to non members for tournaments. Also if we do this, I would suggest we host 1or 2 "members only" tournaments or events per year with bigger prizes than our standard gift card for the box.........what that would be we could determine down the road.

Depends how we do it.. cheapest 'business' account is 4.95 and with .80c per transaction.. and technically there should be a ton of transactions.

Other option is to try and open a joint personal account with 2-3 signors under my name(and hope they let me swing a staff account, aka free)

Those are perfectly good ideas man, I was merely giving ideas of some of the things we could do with a club based on fees.

The members only tournament is a good idea, as it gives incentive to join up. What we could give away for big prizes though, I'm really not sure. Maybe a cash prize for the top placers?

My first though was models........but as always that's a tough sell, as you don't know who the winning faction will be. Custom terrain pieces would be nice, but not everyone have tables in their basement, like some people........like I said, we'd have to think about it. If all members are over 18, we could do hookers and beer........that's always a great prize.

Definitely not moving THIS month, and maybe not until September now. Either way I would be in to support for the time being, seeing as I will be splitting time heavily between Calgary/Red Deer.

I keep forgetting to bring the GF9 terrain Brando and I have accrued over time, we have enough for at least two loaded 4x6 tables, could probably squeeze 3x 4x4 tables worth of terrain outta our stuff alone.

The GROTS club fees work like this.

$120 for the year or $20 a month. Drop ins are free the first time and $10 bucks for a week after that if you only play sporadically. For out of towners coming for tournaments we tack on the $10 weekly fee to there entry. So Club members would pay $10 for an event and non club members would pay $20 for example.

The club uses the funds for terrain, prize support, food at events and tournament costs.

Ignored again. I'll just assume that it was because of being the last post on the previous page again and it got missed.

For a name I like S.I.D.S. Sudden Infant Dice Syndrome. People be all like, "uh oh, here comes the SIDS." And on the shirt you have a dead baby in a crib with dice in the crib, or dice for eyes.

I'm down for a gaming club. Where are we thinking about holding these gatherings? Is there any place that we can have access to and play 24 hrs a day?

Sentry Box. We just need to get an after hours key, and an alarm code. Then we have access to a 24 hour gaming space. We'd just have to co-ordinate with the other clubs that use the room. Most meet-up only once a month, and usually during the week.

I would also prefer to have a name/logo that was a little more family friendly. Dead babies and all that really doesn't appeal to those of us that have/had babies.

In the future, please think about the consequences of posting your work, so this doesn't happen again. Perhaps use less of whatever it is that you use to get your results?
    Thanks.

You just need to sign up for it. There's no special treatment. Anyone can get it, they just need you to fill out a form for your information.

We'll also need to move the tables into the after hours room instead of in the store.
