Sounds good man, looking forward to this sunday.
Hey there fellow Albertans (and I guess those of you from Saskatchewan haha) We in Red Deer at the Grots club will be hosting a 50 Point Steamroller on August 6th (as of now) in Red Deer AB. We would love to see some faces from Calgary (we had a good group come down for our last one) or Saskatchewan if possible. I will post a full schedule when we work it up but as it is we have the following rules.
-50 Points, 4 Rounds
-Each player must bring 4 lists with 4 different Warcasters/Warlocks. Each list may only be played once. Prime/Epic options count as separate choices when making lists. Of course all lists must be from the same Faction.
-Posted soon will be 6 Steamroller scenarios, of those 4 will be chosen for the event and will be revealed during the tournament.
-Prizes will be PP Steamroller trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There will also be prizes for Best Sport and Best in Appearance. We will also have 3 or 4 great Door Prizes drawn at random throughout the day.
I will try to post up to date information ASAP but you can always follow us on the Grots forum and find out about all our tournaments at www.grots.ca/forum
We hope to see as many of you as possible.
Hey El_Lango, that sounds awesome! i will definately try to make it out, unfortunately alot of us are very new players and i doubt if 1 of our players could field 4 50point lists.
I could try fielding the same list.. with 4 different casters! tricky tricky.
hey guys. as much as i'd love to hear about L&L i'm going to have to ditch this weekend. i kinda forgot a crucial date......uhhh our anniversary is this sunday :P
what's more unfortunate, is that between my work schedule and my personal schedule i'm going to be out of town for the 2 sundays following....so i won't be able to attend till probably the middle of july. i made some prelim sketches of the ships. i'll try and get a few scans and post them up here so you can throw some input out. i'll talk to my buddy and see if he's still going to try and make it or not and keep you all posted.
And grats on the medals![]()
Hm quite the schedualing dilemma for everyone coming up! I will still be going down this sunday if you want Ghool, if its not worth it for you dont worry about it.
The long weekend is a possible no go for me, not sure what i've got planned right now but might be in Banff on sunday.. i'll know early next week.
Im in for the tenth as well, have to work on the 3 until 15:00 and we usually finish by then.
Hey guys Bryan here from Red Deer here is more info for our Steamroller for those interested.
Format - 50pt. 4 Round SR2011 Tournament. The following SR 2011 appendix rules will apply.
? 50pt. Army List
? 4 Lists Required ? Divide & Conquer
? Baseline Time Limit
? Standard Steamroller scenarios
? Baseline Painting
This means you must bring 4 lists each with a different version of a warcaster/warlock leading them, the rest of the list can be the same. Prime and Epic versions do not count as the same warcaster/warlock so you can run both the epic and prime version of the same warcaster/warlock as 2 of your 4 lists. Each list is played once and you can not choose it again. Turns are timed at the default value for 50 pt. games, which is 12 minute turns with one 6 minute turn extension which must be declared within 30 seconds of your turn running out, Timers will be supplied. Standard 2011 steamroller scenarios will be used. Painted Armies are not required.
Steamroller Trophies will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There will also be prizes for the best painted army and best sportsman. At the end of each round a random player will win one of the door prizes.
Cost is 20$ and there will be 24 spots available for this tournament and all slots are expected to fill so if you are planning to attend we ask you to register as soon as possible. We ask army lists be sent in ahead of time as to not have to go through a stack on the day of the tournament. Payment can be payed in person at the GROTS club or with PayPal to Gerry Hodgson - Tarsk21@hotmail.com .
8:30 am to 9:30 am - Doors open and registration begins.
9:30 am to 11:10 am - First round game.
11:10 am to 12:50 pm - Second round game.
12:50 pm to 1:30 pm - Lunch break.
1:30 pm to 3:10 pm - Third round game.
3:10 pm to 4:50 pm - Fourth round game.
4:50 pm to 5:00 pm - Trophies.
For more information and/or questions go to www.grots.ca/forum or email grotsclub@gmail.com.
Hope to see some of you there!
would love to come for a tournie, but unfortunately i can't make 4 lists at the moment. Hope to make your guys next tournie tho!
Ghool: I got some rings from michaels/dollar store, 3-4-5 inch ones, got 4 of each size if you want 2 of each it would be like 3$ lol
You got it shipped UPS, didn't you?
UPS, and other courier companies will hit you with a 'Brokerage Fee' on top of what you've already paid when they deliver the package. Apparently this is for taxes, and for moving it across borders. It's just another way for courier companies to gouge the consumer.
When shipping, and getting things shipped from another country, use the regular postal service, and not UPS, FedEx, DHL, or similar.
If you order anything else, make sure to pick the USPS service (US Postal Service), as it will then be transferred to Canada Post at the border, and there are no extraneous rip-off fees.
I might make it out this sunday, depending if my mom can watch the kids.
When i ordered my battlefoam there were only 2 shipping options, 1 for $46 and one for 76$, i picked the 46$ one assuming it would be basic postal. Oh well i guess, live and learn.
I won't be out this weekend, heading to kelowna with the mrs.
All right, on July 10th, I'll start up the league, and hand out the participation loot.
There is also supposed to be a Wrath tournament kit, but it has yet to be released.
Once that comes out, I think we'll make that our first 'official' tournament for the Sentry Box.
If it takes a while, I think we'll have a smaller one, probably 15, or 25 points. I would like to have painting requirements for this as well.
By starting small, working our way up the points scale for the tournaments, everyone can eventually have a fully painted army in a short period of time.
Joining the league is always free, and tournaments will cost a fee, I usually charge around $5 per participant, sometimes more.
From how it worked in the past, all the fees collected would go towards additional prize support. I'll have to check with Greg at the Sentry Box about this, to make sure it still works the same.
How does everyone feel about that?
Well make sure you post up the tournament info. If you want outsiders I am always in Calgary and would love to play in any size tournament.
Good by me
Just wondering, if you didn't want to pay the fee for a tournament could you just join for fun, and just not be put in the rankings or play anyone who might get a pass for a round?

Don't worry about the tournament fees just yet. We'll start the league, and give people a chance to get some practice, and get their models painted up.
If you're playing in the tournaments though, a fee will be required.
Most often, I will make sure there's always a prize for the player who comes in dead last. Sometimes, that might even be a painted model by me.
You think that's worth 5 bucks, even if you lose?
For tournaments, we'll have have medals/trophies/coins and other stuff. What I usually do with the fees is get a Gift Certificate for the store, models, or books. Depending on the turn out, most folks will walk away with at least a little something.
Oh yeah, I'll make sure I post the specifics for any tournaments, and the more the merrier!
so i know i've probably said this already, but i'm not going to be able to make it this weekend. i'm out of town.
The Next weekend, the 17th, i should be able to come out.
I'm not quite sure how long I'm going to be on vacation so I don't know if I'll be back in time for the 17th.
Have fun anyways.![]()

Hey guys, sorry I wont be able to make it today. Been sick for the last few days, hope to get some games in next week.
The league officially ends on the 17th, but we'll carry on with games of Rotterhorn until Summer Rampage starts.
After Summer Rampage, and before the next league starts in September, I'll run a tournament.
I've already decided it will be a small, scenario based, Steamroller format, with a painting requirement. I'm thinking that all of the tournaments will have a painting requirement, and we'll slowly ramp up the point levels for each one. This should get everyone a completely painted single list, which then can be fleshed out as time goes on.
I'll be providing a Best Painted Award as well, to reward those who pull out the stops to get a gorgeous army on the table. Just to clarify, I'll be running the events, so you won't have to compete against me.
Does a 25 point tournament with fully painted and based models sound reasonable enough by August?
If that's too large, we can always start with a 15 point list instead. I know most of you guys have at least that painted already, so I figured we could start at 25. Just let me know what's a reasonable size.
I have asked the Sentry Box to post on their store calendar that we'll be running league games every Sunday now, for the future. I'll also squeeze in a painting/terrain demo day in there once in a while too.
I wished I would have remembered Nemo's Overpower....Thagrosh would have bit it from my Centurion after one more hit...next time!
It all sounds good, 15 or 25 works for me, what ever gets the most people. I'm fine with the painting requirement, the basing i dont mind as much if people are kind of in a hurry heh.
pfft Thagrosh doesnt care about no super charged spear!
Eeeplooks like I'll still be painting while you guys play if were tryin' for 25 by August. I'm still needing four more Stormguard before I have my desired pNemo list, even if I just tried to scramble up a list I'd still have a crap ton to paint by then. (All i have finished right now is a Stormclad >.>) If there's enough people could we have two tiers to the tournament e.g. a 15 point bracket and a 25 point bracket?
Its OK if we cant though, I would have enough fun painting and watching you guys play![]()

We can always do a 15 point Mangled Metal, Tooth and Claw. Not a big deal. Whatever is easiest.
I want everyone to be able to participate, so if we have to start small, and grow the painted model collection, that's just fine by me.
I'll be out this Sunday, the 17th, with the League rules, and Scenarios, and some loot to hand out. We'll run it for as long as possible, until Summer Rampage starts.
I think the Wrath release tournament will be the first one we'll run, and I'll hammer out the details as I talk to everyone. I want to find a date that's agreeable for everyone. I don't want anyone to miss out.
I'll see yoose on Sunday with my Storm Strider in tow!
Sounds like a plan, the sooner we can pick a date that works for everyone i can try and get my roommates to come out and play(ones an EMT with a weird schedual.. and ones a cook who works sundays, but he says he might take a day off for a tournie)
Psyched for sunday.
Perhaps I can bring out my toolkit to show you some tricks to painting quickly, Graycross?
Just let me know if I should.
My first question is always this: What size of brushes are you using?
Bigger is always better. I rarely use anything smaller than a #1. My #2 is my most used brush.
A fatter brush will help you learn better brush control, and will hold more paint, so you can paint for longer without 'dipping'.
Well firstly I wont be there for the 17th (Long Vacation) but sign me up for anything you guys are planning on doing.
In terms of my list goal I'm hoping to have this list done in time for our first tourney (Which I still don't know when it is)

As of current all I have done is the Stormclad and everything else is back home in Calgary. >.>
Answering your painting questions:
1. I have no clue what size brush I am usingGenerally I use a P3 Base Hobby Brush or some other brush I found in my basement that is labeled as a "Fine Sable brush" that is thicker at its tip than the P3. (I also have a Citadel Fine brush which I rarely use)
2. Yes I would love anything that could help my painting speed or skill, so assistance is greatly welcomed
-Graycross
EDIT: as a side note I'm working on getting some sort of a paint log up so once that happens you can see what kind of a painter I am (hopefully with not too much eye burning)

Well, if you want to, I can always lend you all or any of those models to play in any events we have.
You just won't be qualified for any of the best painter awards.
But, you're certainly welcome to use any of my models if you care to compete, and don't have any/enough of your stuff painted.
Let me know when you're in next, and I'll make it a painting day...lord knows I have enough stuff to do anyways, so a painting day instead of gaming will help loads.
