Default Kaelyssa 35 pts with AFG

This is the list I ran tonight against a friend of mine and it did well:

    Kaelyssa
    Phoenix
    Griffon
    AFG
    MHSF + UA
    e Eiryss
    MHA
    Artificer

I'll have to play it more, but so far I like it. Its basically set up like this:

Phoenix is baby sitting the AFG
Artificer is baby sitting the MHSF
The Griffon is Baby sitting the MHA and Eiryss

Kae runs Phantom Hunter on herself, Banishing ward on the phoenix, and Backlashes the first Jack that gets in range. Preferably one with 18-20 armor

Rapid Fire AFG + Mage hunters average a fair bit of backlash damage on the Caster hitting a high armor 'Jack
Against hordes Ill have to play differently, so will have to see how that goes.

    I ran two games today:

First up I played again a heavy stealth Cryx list. Exactly what I wanted to match up against to see how my range heavy list would do.

To be honest I think I could have won it, had I been more experienced. I don't have enough games under my belt to know what does what. I walked into a few things that could have been avoided.

The AFG did fine. I managed to keep it alive till turn 4. The amount of models it killed / tied up was well worth its cost.

My opponent was very good and I learned a lot from the game.

My second Game I mixed things up a little.

I Dropped the AFG for Discordia.

It was against a melee heavy striker list:

I had the game under control until I jumped the gun and tried for the caster kill too early. Got striker to 4 health and hung kae out to dry. Was a good game and my first time playing against Cygnar. My opponent let me know that I committed way too early because I did have the game under control. Again I learned from my mistakes and will get better as I go.

A tactic I was using in both games successfully was making 2 lines with the MHSF, Feating with Kae when the enemy was in charge range forcing my opponents to run into melee with the front line of guys. This Left the back row able to still shoot (because of Phantom Hunter) and DEF 15 makes them an ok tar pit. On my turn between combined melee attacks, the griffon, and the Artificer mop up or make sure the tar pitted squad wasn't strong enough to walk through my unit.

I am gonna drop the Artificer and pick an arcanist and another MHA

So it will look like this:
    Kaelyssa
    Phoenix
    Griffon
    AFG
    Arcanist
    MHSF + UA
    e Eiryss
    Ghost Sniper
    MHA

The Arcanist to heal up the AFG and to be able to toss out a focus or make the Phoenix hit harder will be nice. Also the Ghost Sniper will be able to plink for 3 Damage and add to the Backlash love

Played Against Circle for the first time today against a good opponent. I used the same list at the top, as I dont have the models to use anything different.
It was a hard fought game that ended with Kae smacked up by a Heavily wounded Feral Warpwolf.

In the end I had Moshar down to 4-5 health. The list was Moshar, 2 Feral Warpwolf's, a Woldwarden, Bloodtrackers + Naula, and lord of the feast, and shifting stones.

I didn't consider the d3 healing to be that helpful on the feral. When I watched my opponent heal up 1 point in a column that I had taken out, I realized that I cant count out a warpwolf until I've finished it. That same feral that I had discounted was the one that ended Kae. All the same it was a fun game that really came down to the wire where I wasn't sure who was gonna win.

I really like the Griffon in the list, I am just finding it hard to give him any more than 1 focus or worse yet he would be most effective outside Kaelyssa control area.. He still does some great stuff even though I am not giving him any love. The Artificer just isnt impressing me in this list. I keep wishing 2 things:
    1) I had a repair for my AFG
    2) The Griffon could do some more hurting

    The solution:
    Drop the Artificer
    Add in a Scyr
    Add in an Arcanist

Being able to flank hard with these 2 and not care about the control area will be really helpful . Being able to hit damn near anything with ease and hit it hard will be a great asset to my list.
Griffon will be Mat 8 (with possible re-roll) on the Charge, the Scyir will be Mat 10 (flanking). Griffon will be pow 13 with 3 dice the Scyir will be pow 12 with 4 dice on the charge.

How powerful has the AFG been overall? It seems like it hasn't really helped that much, and you are putting alot into making it work. Maybe it just seems that way bc you didn't give a whole lot of concrete examples.
What is tin compared to the hand that wields it?

vs Cryx: I had an entire squad of bane thralls + ua + tartersauce + some small bonejack gunning for it. It tied up 19 pts worth of stuff. Even had he killed it that was a ton of hurt my army avoided. It hung on at the end with 1 box.
vs Khador: It accounted for 3-4 of the backlash damage on the enemy caster. It and the Mage hunter strike force scrapped 2 Heavy Jacks. The AFG was untouched when my buddy called it. It was instrumental in beating him.
vs Circle Bloodtrackers + Naula, and a feral warp wolf came after it. It had 4 boxes left at the end

So it seems it either gets ignored and I get to deal out some very long range pain or it gets gunned for and tarpits alot of models. I keep it alive by supporting it with other units that in turn help me stay kicking. None of the games so far I feel that the AFG contributed to my losses. It was my ignorance of what models do what and how things interact with each other. Thinking back on the games, I know where I screwed up.

I think most peoples problems with the AFG is that they expect the AFG to stand alone and shine. I don't think it was meant to be played like that. In every case I see people saying they love the AFG, they are supporting it with other models.

Edit: I also do not run it up the first turn. I have a ranged heavy list so the opponents have to come at me so I have the luxury of keeping it further back.

Lars hit it dead on, The AFG doesn't win the game for you, It supports the rest of your army allowing them to win the game for you. Knocking stuff down, AOE dmg and rough terrain or just straight up killing 2-4 things. I have found I have trouble using it at 35 though, because I don't like what has to come out of my typical 35 point lists to fit in it, but I love it at 50.
Sig Changed at Ed's request, he's still my fav though.
