I will most likely take a swing making a data file via Brute Force(nothing quite so elegant as what Whicken will think of), I keep running into a problem though, of the program having an error, when I go to save a data file.

I will try to run down the specifics, but if it is a known issue can you give me a headsup.

Edit: I have been chasing the problem down, I can make a data file, I can make a faction, I can make Atributes, and I can make them composites, I can make Types.

But when I get to Item data where I fill in all the values for the things, I error out and it doesn't save. I have made a Factionless Type with a name, but then when i went to delete it, it errored out. I could not make an Factioned Type of any kind without Erroring, I also tried it with a variety of altributes, some generated some core, and had no success with any.

Has anyone actually gotten to create Item Data properly, I think if I could manage to get that part to work, I could get started.

Wyvern, is there a way for us to share the work? My thought is that if DemonCalibre can create a data file, some of us others can help with data entry. Like I can probably enter Protectorate data from my deck.

Well, the guts of that are there but the functionality to import the data from another file has not been started yet. The best bet for now would be to start from the same base data file that has been setup except for the data entry, then someone can manually 'merge' the data once several people enter it in their own copy of the base file.

If a group of people want to go down this road, I can walk you through the steps to do this.

Something else that is important in regards to sharing. Make sure to only include data that is permissible by PP or the respective copyright holder.
Not to be too dramatic but I don't want to see the new universal aspect being used to cause grief. If that happens I'll take my ball and go home.

Can't blame you for that. Where would we find "the rules" for PP regarding what we can include in a shared data file? This would govern how the data file is created, or at least what can be pre-filled in by anyone.

Hmm looking like it is coming along nicely. I anticipate an excellent finish as before. . .

    Keep up the excellent work.

I second this, Veneficus is a shocker for adding two numbers together.

While I can't speak for Wyvern I have been following this closely.

A complete workable data file is still ways off, Right now, AFAIK He is still getting the kinks out of the editor, but the valdiation tools are not online yet, which means while I can make a data file it won't calibrate itself to your construction and assure that things are working properly(i.e. you can make an illegal list, and it won't say anything). While stable, it still has troubles racking up errors, hence it being an alpha release.

DemonCalibre pretty much summed it up. There are people working on data files while I continue to refine and complete the application. Also as DemonCalibre mentioned, lists can be built with point totals but validation is not in place yet. As more work progresses, more and more functionality will be added in.

The validation pieces are the next step after I do some more refinement on the data editor and I get a intro tutorial up. I wanted to have the tutorial done this week but other responsibilities got in the way which they have a tendency to do from time to time.

yes i am aware of that, i would have had a go at a data set myself if i knew how i was more interested in a data set so i could have a genuine look at the alpha release

I might post up a little how to, I have figured out most of the nuts and bolts of the Data Tool(Except I have no damned clue what Tags are for).

It's still not gospel yet, I just had my data file get vaporized by an error, so I am back at square one, My own fault for not making a proper backup.

I am playing around with the editor for Cyngar forces, looks straightforward enough to input it, and the editor seems to make sense to me. But that might come from coding background. DC out, not fun, will make sure i back mine up every time i do any work then .

Tutorials are still in progress which should help take the guess work out. I planned to have those done last week but work and life got in the way.

Progress is being made, but not as rapidly as I'd like. I've been having to travel quite a bit for work but the bright side is that should slack off after next week. I'll be focusing on cranking through documentation and getting the validation pieces in place.

Wyvern, I cant seem to get it to work for windows 7 64 bit. Got any Ideas why? It installs ok but when I go to build an army it opens the next window and I cant do anything. There is nothing to select.

I also have windows 7 64 bit so it is most likely not a windows issue. Can you email the data file you are using I'll take a closer look?

I'll offer up my data as well.

If anyone is interested in converting XML data (up to date for WM & Hordes as of Final FT releases) from Army Gizmo let me know. The XML includes:

    -model type
    -base faction
    -point cost
    -FA
    -attachments
    -unit size

I haven't looked at the TC data files yet but I'm sure the data could be converted fairly easily (I'm guessing perl, python, maybe even excel would do the job). Would be a great project for an aspiring and ambitious programmer

I wish I had the skills/knowledge to convert someone elses data to fit tabletop commander, but I just don;'t have the cognitive capacity for programming it seems

The new edition of Tabletop Commander is still being born so it may take a while yet. The validation functionality and further documentation is going to be introduced sometime next week and that is probably what most people have been waiting on.

I know you wanted to make it bigger and better but an update to the old system would have been sufficient for the majority of players. I'm sure it would have been easier on the dev side as well.

Thanks for the work your putting into this, I used to use the first version all the time, just been waiting to start up again.

After the introduction of the Functionality & Documentation next week, are we going to be able to start using it as a list builder & collection like the old version? Or how far off is it from that realistically. If I wanted to use your program just to build lists and keep track of my collection like the old version, when will I be able to do that?

    Thanks very much!

Yes, tweaking the old version would have been easier but I decided to take things another direction. Eventually the new version will eclipse the old version and allow for more growth as well. Also, I don't do easy. I either make the task unnecessarily complicated enough as to be proper or just take a nap instead.

After the validation functionality is in place data files will be able to support list building and list validation. However the data files will not be provided by me at this time because I am devoting my time to the application itself and enhancing the functionality.

The collection functionality will be introduced into the new version but the timing of that is up in the air. I want to round out a few more things with the list building functionality first, so it will be awhile yet.

Yes, I have been doing most of my updates over on the Tabletop Commander forums as of late.

With last weeks release all of the functionality is in place to support army list construction.

For those of us that don't want to have to input the data (I am sure there are enough people out there doing it already) this tool is about useless unless a section of your website is given over to where to find a data set. I loved the old version and this turn of direction saddens me.

There seems to be some discussion going on the TTC forums, but no tangible progress. I think it is still being made, but I have no proof... only hopes
