Morti 15 points list for my first bunch of WM games
Okay, after some futile tries to get my hands on eSkarre I ordered Morti and got her today. Originally I intended to learn the game with eSkarre, but it took Wayland 3 weeks to change my order status from "pending" to "awaiting stock", which means no chance that I get them right in time for this weeks Warma-Night at the FLGS.
So right now I have a wild mixture of cryx models sitting in front of me, most of them assembled and primed, but I can't really wrap my head around a decent list. Keep in mind: The purpose of the list isn't to give my opponent a run for their money, but to build one that works great for learning purposes (focus allocation/management, power vs normal/additional attacks, making the most out of arc nodes).
The stock:
Morti
- BG Slayer, halfway magnetized
- Plastic helljack + Malice upgrade kit, halfway magnetized
- 2 deathrippers
- 1 defiler
+ WSC
+ Satyxis Raiders (min) + UA and Solo
+ 2 Warwitch Sirens
(pDenny from the BG box)
My first try:
Cryx
Infernal Machines (Master Necrotech Mortenebra)
(Tier 3)
PCs: 15 / 15
7 models
- {00} Master Necrotech Mortenebra (0 / 4 WJ remaining)
- {00} Deryliss (Companion)
- {06} Reaper
- {05} Slayer
- {04} Deathripper
- {02} Warwitch Siren
- {02} Warwitch Siren
The reason for that build:
The Reaper allows me to fool around a bit with Mortis Interface ability and the open-fist slayer gives me a jack with access to most power attacks. The chicken is more or less a filler and allows me to learn a bit about arching spells (Doom spiral and void gate).
So is that a good 15pt list for learning purposes or should I rather try to field pDenny with a mixture of hell&bonejacks, units and solos?

I would advice against Mortenebra for learning purposes and for pGaspy or pDenny instead.
If you really want to use Mortenebra you can use the list you postet but an arc node is mostly wasted points with her - she wont cast much offensive spells anyways.

So your advice would be something like this:
pDenny (since I don't own pGaspy and the WM night is tomorrow)
- Slayer, cheap and allows me to learn power attacks (1)
- Deathripper, cheap run of the mill arcnode (4)
- Defiler, not so cheap node but a tool to learn all about spray attacks (5)
that leaves me with 5 free points, so I could either add a min sized squad of Raiders or the WSC.

Sounds good, though that decission depends on who and what you are playing when using the WSC. Getting Dark Industries off at 15 without Malice is nearly impossible and a good play will get rid of them with top priority.
I would use the Raiders because with AD and SPD 7 they are up front very fast and can either try to do some damage to other infantry (via Combined Melee) or try and crit. knockdown heavier targets while your Slayer advances.
With the Feat and Parasite even a single Raider is deadly when it charges a KD Warcaster.
Just be sure to keep one of the nodes back for that crucial turn when you need to knock down something via Scourge or apply the debuffs.
If you are confident in running without a heavy you could also try switching the Slayer for a Sea Witch, a Raider Captain and a Warwitch Siren to make them even deadlier. (That +2 DEF is just that good) while the Siren frees up a FOC to run the node. But for the "learning experience" a Slayer is probably better.

I think I go with the Raiders and save the WSC for the near future. Not concerned about match-ups or not getting Dark Industry off. But they are a toolbox and too many tools for an apprentice like me may border on overkill.
If you're a chief you won't let your apprentice cut bread with a peeling knife, but you won't hand him a knife-block filled with 12 different knives either on his first workday.
So we have a winner:
Cryx
Standard Army
PCs: 15 / 15
10 models
- {00} Warwitch Deneghra (0 / 5 WJ remaining)
- {06} Slayer
- {04} Deathripper
- {05} Defiler
- {05} Satyxis Raiders (5 grunts)
Huzzah and thx a lot.
