A carnivean cannot make a ranged attack as part of an assault if it actually makes it into melee with its charge.

Need to check how the Hordes Mk2 field test wording compares with final Prime Mk2

Yeah this seems like the same style of problem Mulg had (where he couldn't use one of his abilities due to a mechanical error), I don't think many players will cry foul if Assault is used in the way it seems it should be intended, but yeah rule strict, seems like you cannot use it against a pair of infantry.

It has already been said in the original thread, the assault rule clearly state that you CAN make a ranged attack. Nobody argue that assault rule override general rule saying you can't make ranged and melee attacks, so why argue if assault rule override or not the generale rule "can't make attack if engaged or engaging" ?

I think its pretty well stated...the only people that would fight that are people who are trying to cheese their way out of getting sprayed.

It's a funny discussion. On one hand, the intent is clear, but on the other hand the rules are clear. And since we have to follow the rules, it means that assault, as written, doesn't allow for a ranged attack if the assaulter is in melee...

I'm hoping that they figure it out soon, because if someone at a tourney insists on not allowing the ranged attack in melee, I can't rule against him on the letter of the rules :|

Ah, Maudlin had a "Veni, Vidi, Vici" moment, and squared it all away. Ranged attacks in allowed as part of assault when in melee
