    Default The Holy Grayle 50pts!!

    Yeah, lame joke is lame.
Anyway, after doing a few smaller games with our newest caster I plan on heading into the store tomorrow for some 50pt matches. I wanted to make a list that included at least two powerful melee heavies, and a geomancer for helping Grayle hotswap Storm Rager. I ended up compromising on the second heavy and taking a pureblood. Its still got two MAT 8 POW 18 fists if it warps for str and gets primal in a pinch, but bring some utility with its spray, ghostly, and handing out blessed to SR'd solos for maximum guaranteed carnage.

    Grayle +6
    -Gorax 4
    -Feral 9
    -Pureblood 9
    -Warden 9
    Wolves (full) + UA 8
    Stones + UA 3
    Stones 2
    Whitemane 3
    Lord of the Feast 4
    Morraig 5

Shifting Stones provide the usual great unsuspected threat angles, especially with the feat giving the extra 3" needed too engage the target. Wolves form a "hard hitting" backbone for the list, capable of proc'ing my feat for key solos, providing flank for morraig, and just generally getting in the way of my opponent. Basically, if your killing the wolves, your NOT killing my solos, who are the real threat in this list.
The LotF and Whitemane each set up on a separate flank, with protective terrain priority going to the Whitemane since the LotF already has stealth. Even a single one of them can take out an entire enemy infantry unit. SR and Wraithbane make them both MAT 10 ignoring spell effects. Only naturally DEF 16+ is starting to get chancy, and with PS 15s, only multi wound models with High armor are a real problem for these guys.

Anyway so thats my list. My only thought was to try out dropping the Whitemane inorder to upgrade the Pureblood to a Stalker and add in a Druid Wilder. It adds a significantly higher punch against multiwound infantry and high armor jacks, but loses me the magic of SR+Wraithbane against high DEF and second hugh Anti-Infantry threat.
Maybe upgrade the feral instead of the pureblood to keep access to wraithbane? Ill try all the variations this coming week.

So thoughts on it all? Grayle has been really fun so far and I plan on playing him for QUITE some time

I think a Stalker is going to be mandatory with Grayle, you want Sprint so you can send Morraig in wihtout any chance of losing him. Morraig IMO will be the key to many Grayle assassinations, so you need to keep him alive. Having a 5 point super solo just sitting in the backfield till late game isnt a great idea though, hence the need for Sprint.

I like your list as a whole though. I would probably drop the White Mane and non-UA Stones for a Reeve Hunter + two War Wolves and upgrading the Feral to a Stalker. As it stands your list would struggle against anything that denies hearts, the Reeve mitigates this somewhat and the WWs give you good early game throwaway SR models.

My 50 pt list is VERY similar, great list! LOL!

The biggest thing you are missing IMO is Lightning Strike. You want to drop Morraig bombs 2-3 times a game if possible. Drop the second unit of SS and replace the Feral with a Stalker and add Gobbers or a War Wolf IMO. I'm running a Sentry Stone in my Grayle list, I think the Forests are going to be great to aid the hit and run. I think I snuck a Wilder in my list for the free animis too.

I agree with Rez about the WW being a good throw away SR target, I plan on doing the same with my Mannikins the few times it makes sense. A SR WW charges target, then cycle SR to Morraig, he follows suit on same target, that is a LOT of damage right there with decent rolls.

So I wrote this huge reply last night, but the forums deleted it so Ill be brief this time.

I agree that I need the Stalker in there. Its animus is too useful at protecting your super solos, and berzerk just helps deal with multi wound models WAY too well.

So as I listed above, I'll probably drop the Whitemane for the extra points, throwing in a Wilder also for her general usefulness.
What I am still stuck on, is which beast too upgrade to the stalker and which beast to keep?
On the one hand, if Im REALLY worried about armor, the Feral is a shoe in, with MAT 7 and his 3 natural attacks, he's just the best we got at bring down super tough heavies. On the other hand, the Pureblood brings more versatility with wraithbane for my solos (but then then dont get to sprint away...) being able to reach out and touch things with his spray, and being comparable in melee given appropriate buffs.
So it brings me to Utility, or Power...

I think I'll have to just play test alot this weekend and get a feel against different lists.
One other thing Im considering is dropping the stones UA for a Stalker and keeping the whitemane, but again, only playtesting will tell if that works out for me...

    Thoughts?
