    Default Thyra, Flame of Sorrow

I decided to go with white/red instead of the usual white/burgundy with Thyra, as she's such a fiery lass.

As always, comments, questions, and constructive criticism are welcome.

    As usual, fantastic work.
But man, she's got such a masculine face, I always do a double-take because she looks like a dude.

In other words I am insanely jealous of your abilities and wish I could paint as well as you do. Very supreme work. Thank you for sharing.

How did you do the filigree on her robes?

I just filled in the top of the base with epoxy putty to give a smooth surface, and then I painted it to look like polished rock.

I basically painted them as if I were doing nmm gold. I used gold colors (in this case a mix of Sulfuric Yellow and Bloodstone, shaded by adding more Bloodstone and Umbral Umber, highlighted by adding Menoth White Highlight), and highlighted and shaded them as a shiny material. You have to highlight/shade shinier materials differently from less shiny materials, as they catch the light differently. I'm not terribly good at explaining how you do it though, since I mostly do it by feel, and by fussing with things until they look right.

Awesome paintjob. Nice shading and highlighting on her skirting and pennants. I love the face. The fact that her headpiece is so open really shows off the excellent skintones.

details in the robe are amazing. Can't find anything to critique hehe. It's very well done and the simple base works because of the amount of detail you have in the mini. Post more please

    The face is killer!

You asked for some critique as well so here it is: The bronze metals come across very flat/shallow compared to the rich drapery and skin tones. The stacks and sword hilts really stand out as culprits. Some portions of the white (back view) could stand to get some subtle gradients. The delicate edging and wash around the rivets makes it seem like you sold yourself a little short on a few of the flat sections.

Love your work, always look forward to your posts man. Two thumbs way up.

    All non-metallic paints were P3.

The white is basically the PP studio recipe for menoth white, I think. Menoth White Base, highlighted with Menoth White Highlight, and shaded with Cryx Bane Highlight, with a touch of Thamar Black added to the deepest shadows.

The red was Skorne Red, highlighted with Ember Orange and Menoth White Highlight, and shaded with Sanguine Base and Thamar Black, then given a uniform glaze of Red Ink.

In honor of national breast cancer month, I am auctioning Thyra and donating 100% of the proceeds to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

I know that PP doesn't usually allow auctions on the forums, but as this is a charity auction, I talked to the moderators and they okayed it.

It's paint jobs like these that make me want to start up the faction lol. I need to take painting lessons because I need to be able to paint like that. It is awesome. Great work all around. I love the marble floor. and her face. And the everything. Very inspiring. This is exactly why I browse the painting forums. I hope the auction goes well.

On a side note, welcome to the Forums Fire and welcome to the herd. check out the off topic pony talk.
